Davidson preview.

This will be an interesting matchup for several reasons.......

Both teams need this game badly based on how their respective seasons have gone so far

Davidson has 5 players who have taken between 47 and 69 3P's - many players proficient in shooting 3P's

Those 5 Davidson players are shooting 3Ps at 31%, 32%, 35%, 41% and 43% for an overall Team 3P% of 36.1% compared to URI 3P% of 30.3%

Davidson FT% is 75.9% compared to URI 68.4%

Davidson has taken 335 - 3P Shots vs URI 241 - 3P Shots

URI must play excellent defense against the 3P Shooting by Davidson

URI must play to strengths of rebounding offensively and defensively. We must hit a high percentage of inside shots, create offense from defense.

URI must minimize Davidson trips to the FT Line due to their excellence in shooting FTs.

This will be my first game in 2 seasons. I haven't missed a full season since I was a junior in high school. Until last season I've been to at least one (usually 3 or 4 since moving to the Boston area) since 1987. I'm hoping for a win in my return. They better bear down!

.......checkout Dooley’s Dorms, the 4-5 story buildings to the left of RC main entrance......dedication in Feb, I think......and of course our new turf field.....nice

I think we need a big inside game tonight against this team. Offensive rebounding. Second chance points - haven't seen that the past couple of games from CL, etc.

And for God's sake, please step out and defend the three.

Feeling like it's going to be a smaller crowd tonight. I'll be there. Let's go.

As others have said, the shooting has been an issue for this team. It has been for years, but it has been especially poor in the last couple games even by our standards. But I’ve also seen us win with subpar shooting. The thing I really want to see improvement with is our defense, particularly our perimeter defense. We have gone from a team that really hung it’s hat on that, and that being the one thing you knew you could count on no matter how everything else was going, to it costing us games that we should never lose and wouldn’t lose even with an off shooting night if we could just defend the three point line a little better. That has to improve if we are going to have any success the rest of the way. This is a good time to start turning it around because these guys are likely to bury you if you let them have 30 good looks from three.

Last year I thought we turned it around for a strong finish starting with a hard fought loss at home to Davidson. Despite losing the game, it was the first time in weeks we looked invested in the outcome of the game. Hopefully we get a similar effort this time - the talent level between the two teams is closer so a similar approach for Rhody should net a win.

Please just win this damn game. I am looking for our three upperclassmen to really show up tonight and take over this team. Agree that it needs to start on defense to. I continue to think we are way better when we can play fast and not get stuck in our half court offense too much. And that starts with defense.

Been having snow squalls this afternoon on campus. It won’t take much to deter fans who are even remotely undecided to stay home.
Davidson wasn’t part of the 5 game package.
Teacher Appreciation Night tonight where they get in free.
I’m hearing it will be a low turnout tonight.

URI (8-5) vs Davidson (6-7) with both teams having lost their last two games. Snowing. Cold. School is out.

I’m guessing 3,877.

Would imagine there must be an injury situation? Not sure if it’s right to say I “hope” he is injured, but not sure what else to think. Koch did not say he was not playing. Also not discipline? Idk, man. Not a terrific feeling overall at the moment.

This is a big gamble by the coach. I’m not sure if I like it that we have skipped all the way past tinkering and went straight to shoot-the-moon style desperation. Doesn’t give me a lot of comfort or confidence in what is going on inside the program.

Don't need as much in the way of ball handling against this team I guess.

Giving Dowtin a chance to run the point, where the ball will move better.

Also use Fatts hopefully as a spark off the bench?

This makes absolutely no sense to me, there has to be more to it than shaking up the lineup. I'm sorry but there is no way you start your best player on the bench, and there is no questioning he is our best player. I'll wait to find out more before I completely throw Cox under the bus, but this is Jerry D like if true. Who starts instead? we only have 2 guards on the roster, makes no sense

Move better to who, though? Fatts is the only guy that can score. This was a hairbrained idea and, to nobody’s surprise, it didn’t work.

The reason why we have professional coaches and don’t just let the fans run the team is specifically because fans would do something dumb like this. Professional coaches are supposed to know better.
