Yeah exactly. You look at how other basketball teams put students behind the bench and behind one basketball so they're wrapped around the court. Why don't they do that next year instead of making the last group of students go all the way to the third level.URI2006_Andy wrote: ↑4 years agoThe key is always the students. If you see a lot of green dots in the front of the 300 sections and not in the back of the 300 sections, the back ones aren't sold either. If the ones in the front of the section start selling, the ones in the back will become green. So, looking at this game, there aren't a lot of seats in the 300s that are actually sold.

What publicity? Beyond ticket offers in digital media the only other publicity we have had is when Rothstein tweeted from a practice. There wasn't much effort put into marketing the program this year, or even in past years...and when coaches leave and quote the allure of the "brand" that is what they are referring to. We do an awful job at building the brand of Rhody basketball, unless its done by a high profile coach (Harrick or Dan) and the interest attached to them.

not to beat a dead horse or derail this thread, but...
- Will we ever get answers on where the NCAA credits, Dan's buyout, decrease in DC vs. DH salary, etc. is going money-wise?
What's our marketing strategy?
What incentives, programs, etc. do we have to improve attendance YoY?

........yes, this......and this is why my attendance prediction is the 5,000......Coach Cox will pan out to be a good coach here and further program developer.....or not......having said that, his style and how he conducts himself(which I like)is not gonna move the attendance needle much......as been said over and over, winning consistently and creating the national buzz via a-10 success is the only way to put fannies in the seats......as for the student placement of the lower ring of the 100/s both sides is fine......If I have to move up to the 200/s, then so be it......

I probably should have used “program” instead of “team” when talking About publicity to get my point across.
Two and three years removed from back to back A10 titles and tournament wins and a year removed from a hot end to the season, in addition to an SEC team with name recognition coming to The Ryan Center for the first time ever should have this game a sellout without question.

Alabama is a football school and to the casual fan is not a draw for basketball- they are unranked w/o a nationally known player. Tickets were priced as a premium game which I’m sure discouraged sales- especially any kind of groups. I know very little about marketing/sales but I’m not sure if initially pricing high then discounting tickets leading up to the game is the best way to go about things.

Yup. Nebraska came in ranked. That little number next to a teams name makes a difference and drums up interest. Stupid way of thinking but it’s the way it is.

The USC Ryan Center opener on 11/26/2002 was well below a sellout. It had just 5,785.

I counted the dots = 750. I know that isn’t always accurate but what info would you have differently that there are a ton of tickets left?
The dots assume all the students seats are taken.
If the 750 seats left is correct and they get a full student crowd, that would put the crowd at 7100+.
I usually look for one dot...the one between our seats and the season ticket holder guy and his wife that have two on the other side...aka, "the coat seat".

Just running ticket promos isn’t marketing. That’s direct response and it’s needed, but so are leveraging other channels. Our fan base and general alumni base has plenty of Gen x and older that aren’t spending their time on Instagram/Facebook. Out of home, tv, radio are still effective. To my knowledge we do little to none of that.

I'd love to see a demographic breakdown age-wise as to who is attending URI basketball games. It does seem that there are a lot of people closer to my age (62) than there are in the younger age groups. Why is that? Where are the 25-45 year olds? I hate to sound morbid, but the people in my age group aren't going to be around forever. Time to start targeting the younger demographic groups in whatever marketing plan they come up with.

Re: 11/15 | Alabama | 7:30PM (NBC Sports)
I do just want to point out that as someone who also gets worked up when we don't get a good crowd to support the team, the issue isn't just with us. I drove down to the Maryland game and that arena was half empty (yes it's a huge arena, but things are relative). I don't care if they didn't know URI, UMD was #7 team from the BIG10 playing on a saturday night and they had a terrible showing.
In other words, winning is clearly the biggest draw. Running ticket promos to get people there is at least showing signs of life.

Update on projected attendance - 557 greens dots (434 in 300s & 123 in 100s/200s). Approximately 155 seats in the 300s behind seats with green dots. That would put the crowd at 7,000 if there is a full student turnout.Rhody83 wrote: ↑4 years agoI see that in about 5 of the 300 sections. Rhody83 is right that 7000+ is doable given the students fill their 1500 seat allotment. Higher than that will depend on the number of walk up ticket purchasers and whether Athletics allows students above the allotment if the demand is there.

If they want to hold back 100 tickets or something I don’t have a problem with that, but otherwise no student should be turned away to the extent they have tickets remaining 30 minutes from tip-off. We don’t get enough walk-up business to justify it and we want students in the building for like 100 different reasons.

Zero opportunity in RI. Can’t really market to a group that hardly exists around here. I’m right smack dab in the middle of that age demo.

Re: 11/15 | Alabama | 7:30PM (NBC Sports)
This is true for me - I’m in Boston because my job literally doesn’t exist in RI. But there are 25-45 years olds in RI, obviously. I’m in that demo, and I’m a big fan, but I don’t have time to go to as many games as I’d like to and only part of that is being in Boston. I’ve been in Boston for 10 years, and I was at most games up until my first kid was born 4 years ago. Even with one kid, I was at a lot of games. Now with 2 kids, plus increasing responsibility at work, upkeep on my house, etc, etc, etc, my season ticket purchase is functionally a donation. I just don’t have the time, and it likely will only get worse before it gets better. But eventually the 25-45 year olds will age into that older demo, their kids will leave the house, they’ll have disposable income and disposable time, and in 20 years the average age of game attendees will be the same as it is now even when the current attendees have moved on to greener pastures.gorhody89 wrote: ↑4 years agoBoston...not much opportunity in RI unfortunatelyBillyboy78 wrote: ↑4 years ago I'd love to see a demographic breakdown age-wise as to who is attending URI basketball games.
