This is simply a great opportunity to see the team up close before the season starts (regardless of the format or how it was messaged). Go and enjoy. Many of us do not have that luxury.

Looking forward to all the posts from those who attend.

I'll be there. Just confused on what this is, and why it was announced so late. Is it a big event, or just a low key practice?

Low key. Just a little extra thing they’re doing for fans. There’s an old saying that I like - “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.” I think that’s applicable here.

Judging by how much the players are hyping it up on instagram I feel like it's gonna be like rhody madness without the concert. I know there are gonna be player introductions and probably some sort of competition like a slam dunk contest. I do know they are definitely doing a "blue vs white" scrimmage. That could be fun to watch!

Also I'm aware that they announced this just last week but I bet a lot of students show up. It's at 6:00 pm on a tuesday. Why

....Cyril dressed, did not participate in anything......oh, the women’s style of play is push the ball attack, they got some shooters, like the way they drilled offense; pick and rolls, making pass to the open player, lots of motion......got me further interested......crowd size was almost filled the lower 100’s on team bench side and end zones.....no one up stairs......entertaining event for the students that were there.....

I saw when he was sitting on the bench during the scrimmage that he had his right thumb taped. I don't know if he the tape on during the drills or if he did something to it during the drills.

Initial thoughts (emphasis on initial):
Dowtin will have a big year.
Martin could be the leading scorer (if he stays healthy)
The best 6 players are the 6 returnees. The three transfers aren’t moving ahead of them.
Sheppard has a much better outside shot than Fatts.
Walker should be a good sub for Cyril and Harris. I wouldn’t expect much offense outside the paint.
Long doesn’t have an outside shot.
I liked Hammond’s shot and play.
Toppin is going to have a great career at URI.

Good summary. It sounds like DJ and Long will not contribute much unless we have injury problems. Walker and Sheppard sound like they will provide nice depth. I think Toppin is going to be very good next year also with a year to adjust to the college level.

I don’t think there is any drop off with Sheppard and Tate. Need to see Walker in a real game against bigs to determine his impact.

Okay, I would've been surprised if Sheppard didnt look good up to par.

.......he looks 6-9ish.......I see him getting the Harris minutes off the bench early and often if Harris shows the picking up foul habits again or any nagging injuries......for me, either Harris or Walker will need major breakout play for the rest of the A-10 to take notice that a Rhody is gonna be serious contenders for the top......I know some free throw shooting would have been a yawner last nite, but would have loved to see the Walker stroke......hopefully Walker can defend without picking up fouls.....for me, he is key to getting us to post season....Jeff and Cyril will have big years.......get Fatts going again, the rest of rotation hold there own, get one of Tate/Martin with take notice solid stats.......and were we come A-10......Go Rhody

The continuous height question.
It goes like this
Harris
Toppin
Cyril & Walker. I woukd put Cyril & Walker at 6’7 or 6’8”

I would disagree that Harris or Walker need a major breakout for Rhody to be a serious A10 contender.
I think the top three players will be Jeff, Martin & Cyril. Don’t be surprised if Martin is the leading scorer.
It will be important for Fatts to improve his offensive efficiency.
Sheppard will be important particularly if Fatts struggles.
Jeff needs to takeover this year - he needs to take more shots. He is most likely the best shooter on the team in game action.

I do think Walker comes in for Harris and Cyril. He needs to be solid defensively and rebounding. His points will come inside the paint like Cyril’s Soph year. I don’t think he is a strong offensive player.

The great thing about this season is that we don't have to solely depend on Cyril with the inside game.

Much more help now....where would we have been without Cyril last season?

And yes, if Martin stays healthy I see him leading the team in scoring. All A10 potential.

I think he's the key for us to reach the next level.

With respect to height, Doesn’t the team do a combine day? Don’t they literally measure everything those days?

Perhaps one of those things is a correct accurate height measurement? Would it be too much to ask to have that accurate height measurement posted to the team roster webpage and media guide?

My initial observation is the feeling of the team, and how these kids are getting along, could be the best locker room Rhody has ever seen. New kids looking tight with veterans and transfers and JUCO's looking like they've been there all along.

My second observation... Toppin can FLY! Simple dunks and oops and his shoulders were well above the rim.

I agree with 83 and others that generally the 8 man rotation is set (5 starters plus Tate, Walker, Sheppard) and that DJ could get some situational minutes. What I’m hearing the general vibe on the Frosh is...

Long- most ready to compete now
Hammond- by mid season/A10 play could get some burn
Toppin- long term has the most upside

That said I wouldn’t expect much if anything from these guys this year moreso due to the depth ahead of them.

Agree with what Koch said yesterday, that unless they are elite prospects A10 Frosh aren’t going to be significant pieces of good A10 teams. So I don’t think anything should be deduced about their long term prospects if they don’t see a lot of time this year, it means our experienced guys are performing to expectation.

........for sure, I am also comforted by this being year two of the Cox era, so that the bumps in the road in year one are behind him, especially the way the season ended, except for the tired legs. With this years senior leadership, and others in the rotation being in year two......good things ahead......Go Rhody......

Toppin can absolutely fly. Routinely his eyes were at the rim. May be crazy but I think he could be the best dunker in college once he puts on some strength.
