Happy Opening Day everyone. We start off the 2019 season with a trip to Reckling Park in Houston to take on Rice from Conference USA. They won the national championship in 2003 and had made the tournament every year from 1995-2017 under Wayne Graham. Last season Rice went 26-31-2, were 7th in Conference USA and the 82 year old Hall of Famer Graham retired. Enter Matt Bragga who spent the past 15 seasons at Tennessee Tech, leading them to 3 tournament appearances. Former Rice players include Lance Berkman, Pete Runnels, Norm Charlton, and Brock Holt.

Here's a link to Rice fans (and a random UConn fan) talking about this series: https://csnbbs.com/thread-870332.html
Today it's partly cloudy in Houston with a high of 79, tomorrow it's cloudy with a high of 74 and Sunday calls for scattered showers and a high of 73

Glad to see the team get a win early in the seasons. It must be difficult to play a months worth of games away from home. Still that makes for a strong team later in the season. They, like pretty much every baseball team, need that No. 1 starter. If Wilson is fully recovered from his injury and is back to his sophomore pitching level then boy we truely have a top-level starter that could pitch well against any team in D1 baseball. To me, the baseball program year in and year out performs at a level way above their funding/support level. Moreover, pound for pound they are the most successful of URIs athletic programs when the funding or lack thereof is factored in.

Reading the Rice Baseball Board it’s clear that their fans were looking for a sweep of Rhody but we had a great 2-1 extra inning win Friday night.
URI is now in the 11th inning in Houston tied 5-5. We just got out of a bases loaded mess in the bottom of the 10th with a force out at the plate from 1b and then a fly out to end the inning. Now top of the 11th.

Tied it with 1 in the ninth yesterday to send the game to extras. Tied it with 2 in the ninth to send it to extras today. Rhody up 6-5 trying to close this out in the 13th.

ETA: Well, I jinxed it. Rice ties it in the 13th and has the winning run on 2nd with no outs.

URI lost 15-3 today. Nice effort by Connor Romano who help Rice scoreless for 2 innings and stuck out 5 Rice batters.
Good to come away with a win in the series and came very close to taking 2 of 3.
