Re: 2/6 | Davidson | 7:00PM (ESPN2)
I honestly can’t see us winning this game, from a realist perspective. They are a tournament team again in my opinion.
I pray that I’m wrong, but a win here would be considered an “upset” in my book.

Even if they lose, URI can at least take solace in the fact that their home basketball court doesn’t have volleyball court lines on it.

Re: 2/6 | Davidson | 7:00PM (ESPN2)
Shutting down both Grady and Gundy will be tough.
Grady has a ton of moves besides just shooting it well.
40 minutes of defending the 3......Davidson can really go on runs with their shooting.
Avoid big lapses and we have a shot imo.

At Dayton is a very tough place to play. Our home game with them will be a close one.
And you know that VCU will be tough at home, especially since we have a 5 game winning streak against them.
Still think 6-3 the rest of the way is doable. Likely 5 seed if so.

Re: 2/6 | Davidson | 7:00PM (ESPN2)
I see us finishing out 4-5. Dayton and Davidson
Twice could be 4 losses right there. But based on the inconsistency we have shown so far, we will probably win at least one game and lose one game we shouldn’t. That will leave us at 10-10 in the conference and 16-14 overall. It’s possible we finish 5-4 but just as likely we end 3-6. Losing 2 last week against layups could really come back to bite us.

Well UMass, GW, and Fordham should be wins....but anything else is possible.
Of course with us "should be" should be said with reservations.
I figure Dayton, Davidson [both twice[ and VCU will end up 2-3....and a win against Martelli and co. Of course that's always a big if playing them there.

The Belk Arena may be outdated but it's a great college BB venue. Their fans are loyal and knowledgable. They usually ask a lot of questions about URI and URI hoops. After we beat the Jack Gibbs team in '17, I had about 8 fans come up to me in my Rhody attire and say "great game". For a second there I thought I was back at the dunk....

Re: 2/6 | Davidson | 7:00PM (ESPN2)
We have to take each game one at a time and I hope the players are thinking like that. Davidson is certainly beatable,
but they have to play another 40 minutes of no let up defense and hit a few shots. Davidson is a good team, not a great team and
very beatable if the effort is there and the team shoots well, doesn't turn the ball over and makes fts. will they win / I don't know ,
the same as I felt about beating St. louis , but that was home . The team is so unpredictable anything can happen . It would be very
big if they can win it . I wouldn't count them out .

St Louis put Bess on him. We don’t have a Bess type stopper. Key to beating Davidson is to play physical and try to overpower them with athleticism, grit and toughness. Limit turnovers and maximize possessions. Skill wise they have us beat and plus home court so they likely will shoot it pretty well. Gotta make it a dog fight.

Re: 2/6 | Davidson | 7:00PM (ESPN2)
Let's not forget we owe Davidson a bit of revenge from last season when we had the better team, but they took two out of three games from us. In the first game at our place, URI handily won, 72-59, in a game where Davidson never led and we had a lead that maxed at 20. In the return game at Belk, Rhody took the lead 4 minutes into game and held it for most of the way with the Rams holding a six point lead with 41 seconds left before our poor FT shooting hurt us, first with Terrell missing a FT, then EC. We lose 63-61. In the third game for the tourney championship, Davidson led by a small margin most of way, but Rhody finally got a 3 point lead with 2 minutes left, but the Rams don't score another point to lose 58-57. Obviously the basketball Gods are favoring Davidson, we need to get a break from that.

it's a winable game.
Cyril and Jermaine should dominate their bigs.
We need Jeff and Fatts to hang with Grady and Gudmundsson.
is it easy, or probably likely? not really. But it wouldnt be a shock either if they come home with a win

The good thing we have going for us is 3 point defense.
Of the “top tier” teams I like our chances with Davidson if they’re not on fire from deep.
If they are though, we will be in for a long night.

Re: 2/6 | Davidson | 7:00PM (ESPN2)
The Wildcats are a perfect 10-0 at home this season. This will be Davidson's first game at Belk in two weeks as it returns from an undefeated two game road trip at SLU and SBU. I would expect one of their bigger crowds (mid to upper 4k range). Even though the Wildcats are in first place in the standings, their average attendance is very mid pack at just 3,731 per game. Belk Arena seats just 5,295 and is located in the small town of Davidson (est pop 12,452) some 20 miles outside Charlotte. The school only has an enrollment of about 1,950. These factors work against high attendance numbers. The Wildcats, despite going to the NCAA last year, were 7th in the A-10 with an average attendance of 4,276.

I actually like our odds in this game and think we match up very well against Davidson. They really only play 6 guys a night and other than Grady have no elite athletes. Davidson's center also looks like he's never seen the inside of a weight room, I think Cyril has another monster night a la Duquesne!

As good as Grady and JAG are, I think the key to tonight's game is Cl and JH staying out of foul trouble against the motion offense. Davidson will be running all over the place and will get a lot of back-door stuff. We just have to be disciplined and smart. Can't wait for tip off.

Have to play good defense against the 3 for the entire game.
Any lapses and we'll be in trouble.
That's hard to do for us on the road. It just is. Any doubts, refer to UMass and Duquesne...and they aren't as good as Davidson.
What Davidson lacks in athletic ability they make up for it by being disciplined.

I don’t get why our coaches are so concerned about his foul situation, since they barely play him in the second half. Have to wonder what they think they’re saving him for - he picks up his second and they pull him, he starts the second half and plays for a few minutes (whether or not he picks up any more fouls) then sits for the duration.FDshoes wrote: ↑5 years agoBig if, harris has shown next to zero ability to stay on the court for extended periods w/o picking up to many dumb fouls.Da_Process_Survivor wrote: ↑5 years ago it's a winable game.

I think the time has come for him to just play, and if he fouls out then so be it. His development is vital for us going forward, so he needs the minutes and opportunities. The alternatives of playing Preston or going small really don’t do it for me; there is no future for us with that.

I think the time has come for him to just play, and if he fouls out then so be it. His development is vital for us going forward, so he needs the minutes and opportunities. The alternatives of playing Preston or going small really don’t do it for me; there is no future for us with that.

True. Against St. Louis, he only had 2 fouls yet played only 14 minutes. Unless he's hurt and on a minutes restriction, I don't get it.TruePoint wrote: ↑5 years agoI don’t get why our coaches are so concerned about his foul situation, since they barely play him in the second half.
Cyril and Jermaine should dominate their bigs.

Besides the the dumb dumb fouls he picks up he needs to be stronger with the ball. Attack the rim and elevate stop putting the ball on the court and attempting to be a finesse player.

I really don't think Harris' playing time has much to do with fouls at all. Sure they take him out when he gets 2 obviously, but from there it seems to be just coaches decision. Basically its coming down to Thompson getting most of Harris' minutes now that Tyrese is playing so much.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑5 years agoTrue. I agree with TP. I think the last few games the opponents have gone to a smaller lineup in the 2nd half so Cox has played Thompson over Harris. I want more of Harris and less of Thompson of course.
