Not sure how Morehead State measures up, but UConn never really totally pulled away from them. Final 80-70.

Not sure if the rebounding/rim protection gets better when Diarra and Yakwe return, or if that’s something that will only get better with recruiting. I liked watching Tarin play for a Hurley again. Gilbert is a special talent- still working though it all to get back but fun to watch. He has some of that Fatts/JT quality to his game.

Not much should be made of opening night games, and results. Everyone is shaking the rust off. Uconn is going to win some games, 2 great guards generally will do that for you in college hoops. And they have enough role players and other pieces around them to be competitive most nights. Wichita State and Cincy both look down this year, AAC won't be as strong as it was last year. You already could see Dan's influence in the way they were defending and their overall body language and intensity.

Also, I’ve been all about Sid Wilson for years now and would really like to watch him play at some point.

In their second road game in three days, Morehead State hung with 16th ranked Syracuse- trailed by just 6 at halftime and lost by 14. Would Morehead State perhaps like to join the A10?

I think there is a fairly good chance that I never watch a UConn game that Hurley coaches. Couldn’t have paid me enough money to have watched this tonight.

I don’t think anyone would offer to pay you, so bullet dodged there, I guess.

The second best thing about the game was Buddy Boeheim’s name being misspelled on his jersey.

UConn played well last night. Good D....on fire from 3. I only watched them a few times last year, but, it's so obvious that Hurls-coached teams...play with an amped up level of intensity. Just the activity level, already...so much more intense than they ever were last year. Maybe he tells all of his players, 'when you're on the floor, you have to move around at least as much and at least as quickly as I do on the sideline.'

'cuse will be fine, and as someone said elsewhere, this W will age well for UConn.

I watched the game.......a snowy night in Connecticut, and not much else to go.

I checked Verbal Commits later, and found he has 5, 4 star recruits, and 4 three start recruits on his team. He had a lot of skilled players to work with.

It wasn’t the rudest thing that ever happened on the internet, but it was weirdly aggressive and hostile considering that I wasn’t talking to her. I didn’t realize my not being able to watch UConn was capable of making anyone mad online, but here we are, I guess.

To me...seemed like a sarcastic joke that would have played well on anyone that didn't want to watch UConn and I'm sure there's many.
Just seems kinda funny that you can call all conservatives dumb and bad, yet be offended by that (or consider it aggressive or hostile)...?

Yeah, didn't look like a blow up ejection. Kinda looked like maybe an accumulation of snark that the refs didn't want to deal with any longer.

Curious...anyone know how many times he was ejected here and when the last one was?

Never ejected at URI or at Wagner. This was his first.
I love how he takes the blame himself.
Not so long ago that Jim Baron was at the helm here for a decade plus and rarely ever took the blame for anything. Refs, Refs, Refs, the ball itself, the schedule was too difficult, the bawl just didn’t go in the baaaskit, you name it.

“Hurley was in the locker room for the final 1 minute, 44 seconds of the Huskies' 91-72 loss to Iowa in the championship game of the tournament. After the game, Hurley said it was the first time he'd been tossed since he coached the high school team at St. Benedict's in Newark, New Jersey.
"I did not like the job I did getting my team ready for today,'' he said.”

Already Hurley has a big Top 25 win to his credit. Best of luck to him.

Always found it amazing that he never was ejected at URI. I never liked his sideline antics, but always respected him for being honest with the fans and media. He would also admit when he was a fault--particularity the Fordham blowout in 2017 and the St Joe's senior night massacre he said 'I didn't have my team ready. Sorry Rhody Nation!"

I cannot remember a single time that he took the blame for anything. There were some pretty funny threads on Jim Baron over his last few years and some posters had some very funny lines in this regard. In fact Jim himself provided the material. I remember one had to do with the basketball itself like maybe it was too slick, or not inflated enough or it was over inflated or some combination. The schedule was a frequent target such as games too close together, too far apart, plane was late, train was late, hotel, bus driver.......................

Posted for two reasons-

First, WTF- that “before” is like La Salle or Fordham level nonsense. I think it shows how a disinterested staff, who is not on top of everything, can easily accept the status quo. Everything should be in a continual state of evaluation, where even if the changes cannot yet be made, the plans are there. Cox gets this. UConn has redone the players’ lounge and the film room and put up some other displays, etc. for overall upgrades.

Second, the weight room is men’s basketball only, which has been reported as a goal of Cox’s. The space isn’t that big, and something similar seems very doable for URI and would be a nice team perk

before, during, and after...

I see Tony Hanson passed away; young at 63. I happened to watch a lot of him, as I lived in CT back then. He was a hell of a player; averaged almost 27 a game senior year. Great inside offensive game at 6'5". Did a lot to help folks after his career ended. RIP.

Yay.

He’ll enroll in January and play next season. The choice came down to UConn or Georgetown.

UConn has two scholarships open for next year and hope to get at least one of Cockburn, Mitchell, Achiuwa, or Wahab (although he’s supposed to be headed to Pitt).
