Syracuse is playing without their starting PG Frank Howard. That win will age well for Uconn.
I know they were missing Howard. I will bet Syracuse doesn’t finish in the Top 20.
Doesn't really matter with them. You can book them now for 2-3 rounds....

Yep, when Howard returns they will be formidable.
Battle and Carey are pros, their unique 2-3 always gives team fits. Uconn matched up well with them, 2-3 legit guards that can slash and shoot can do damage to that zone.

Great read about the craziness surrounding Mike Longergan's dismissal at GW. That program is in a bad place, with a weak roster and a very young head coach. You can win at GW, but it may take awhile...

Anybody watch Gonzaga last night?

They are as impressive looking as Duke.

Maybe even better looking. They made Texas A&M look like Bryant. Without maybe their second best player Tillie.

They definitely have flaws, but return their entire team from Sweet 16 squad, plus added Carey who is dynamite. And in the ACC this year just going 9-9 or even 8-10 may get them in, that league is stacked. As I said earlier, I would guess the ACC and SEC are going to gobble up bids left behind from a weakened BE, AAC and A10.

UCF really opened it up on the Hawks.

Too much size and better defense disrupted the Hawks finesse game.

That Howard team had not yet even played a NCAA D1 team. It had wins in its only three games against Washington Adventist (NAIA - 7th Day Adventist school), Central Penn (D2 - for profit school), and Regent (NCCAA -Christian school founded by current Chancellor Pat Roberston of CBN).

UMass, with its attendance last night, does not look like it is on track to significantly better last year's season average of 2,994. In four home games thus far in 2018-19, UMass has an average of 2,558. All of its games have drawn in the 2k range with it opener versus Umass-Lowell the best at 2,976.

WHO KNEW?
***NCCAA is not a typo - it stands for the National Christian College Athletic Association. It is an association of Christian universities, colleges, and Bible colleges in the United States and Canada whose mission is "the promotion and enhancement of intercollegiate athletic competition with a Christian perspective".

Duquesne beat Radford to go to 3-0. Radford, who was picked to win the Big South, was 3-0 coming in including a win over Notre Dame.

Marquette, who was picked to finish second in the Big East, is tied with PC (Presbyterian College) at the half.

Seton Hall was favored by 6 points.
Very good win for the A10 over the Big East
A win is a win and a road win at that
Top 3 scorers for St Louis were not with the team last season:
Tramaine Isabel Jr - 5th year who played 2 years at Missouri and 1 at Drexel
Dion Wiley - 5th year from Maryland
Carte’Are Gordon is just a freshman
Saint Louis hit an efficient 5-8 on 3-pointers
SLU outrebounded Seton Hall 40-28

I was going to write a post about how the conference hasn't gotten nearly enough out of UMass, but they really aren't underachieving much compared to their history. They have the Calipari years, the years when Bruiser Flint had Calipari's guys and not a whole lot else. I guess my impression of UMass was shaped by growing up during those Calipari years, the beat downs we received when Jerry D was coach and the size of their enrollment/arena. It feels like they should be much better than they've been in attendance and record, but this is who they are.

I wonder if they didn't make a huge mistake not joining the MAC when they had the chance. Their football team is floundering with no home and no potential home seemingly on the horizon, the basketball team seems lifeless, and attendance is crap. They made that decision around the same time that they had their one recent tournament year and a great recruiting class. If they knew they were looking at fools gold instead of a new golden age I wonder if they make a different choice

PC falls to Michigan 66-47. PC was able to close to within one point late in first half, but then Michigan turned on the jets to open up a 13 point half time lead. After that it was all downhill for the Friars as they were thoroughly outclassed by the Wolverines..

PC is undergoing a youth movement, very similar to URI. This is the minutes breakdown from the 2 games this weekend:

Seniors - 18%
Juniors - 32%
Sophomores - 15%
Freshmen - 35%

While it sucks to get destroyed, there is still a lot of good to come from this weekend. Just need those freshmen to keep getting better.

In a battle of two future URI foes, Saint Joseph's fell to West Virginia, 97-90. The game was closely contested for the first 30+ minutes before a barrage of WVU three pointers gave the Mountaineers enough separation and a 14 point lead from which the Hawks would never recover. The game was a three point shooting derby as the teams put in a combined 28 shots. Every one of the Saint Joseph's starters had successful treys with sophomore Charlie Brown leading the parade with a perfect 4 for 4.

In another interesting match, Holy Cross beat Siena, 57-45. This contest was close for a good portion, but the Crusaders dominated the last 8 minutes using the trey route and led by sophomore guard, 6-6 Jacob Grandison with 24 points, hitting on 6 of 10 three pointers. This is further evidence that the sophomore laden Crusaders will be a force to be reckoned with when URI visits Worcester next month.
