I nerver heard of Alex & Ani until a few weeks ago on this forum. I just saw a sign advertising their arrival at a jewelry store here in Michigan.

I think in order for URI to compete with some of the big programs they need to take advantage of their ability to use advertising dollars to the max. In other words a win win for everybody.

Yup, and if things go well for Alex & Ani they have plenty more advertising budget they could allocate to URI Athletics.

If your Tigers advance and play the Red Sox, you will see a large Alex & Ani sign in right field at Fenway. In addition to that, the company purchased the naming rights for the Champions Club at Fenway which is below/behind the right field stands.

Alex & Ani also has sports related sponsorship deals with the Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, and the New Haven Open (Tennis).

Yeah, I went up to the 300's and that is a great view. The old floor looked like crap on tv. The closed circuit they streamed on the small scoreboard looked awesome.

Very impressed with the new floor. Can't wait to have someone knocking down 3's from the "Alex and Ani" the way Jimmy used to make them from the CVS

Just an idea, but maybe we need to update the site so the new floor is there instead of the old floor?

I love this photo I saw on GoRhody.com. I've asked friends in Athletics if they could spare another image for us. They supplied the one currently used in our banner.

Not sure that would work out theblueram due to low resolution.

Both interesting options, thanks guys. I'll play around with it when I get some time and see what I can do (unfortunately need to design the stuff I get paid for first...why does work always get in the way of the more fun stuff!).

Not sure of his/her exact handle, but it's skywalk.

Photo by Friday is another great source for pics - I bet they would supply one upon request. (Don't quote me on that, though)

In addition, new NBA style baskets!
not pertaining to the new floor but the college/our old style baskets was the main reason Paul George broke his leg tonight. The USA Basketball team was training at UNLV who doesn't have room in their arena and have short necks on their baskets (maybe 3 feet between the base of the basket and the baseline where as the nba style has much more room (Toronto has 6+ feet)

It's surprising because at least as of last summer, the spalding baskets/backstops we got were the NCAA Final Four standard and used in most NBA arenas. I agree that at a place like the Ryan Center, we do have the luxury of being able to use the long neck version which would provide players even more clearance under the baseline.

Think this is a good idea. I've seen the still photo of the break and that was enough for me (probably too much, honestly). I shouldn't have watched the video of Ware's injury. I won't watch the George video.

When he lands the sole of his shoe catches the bottom of the basket base and never gets on the floor. His leg couldn't handle the force of landing without solid footing

Call me old fashioned; but I love cozy gyms. With that low ceiling, it is probably loud when packed. Seats just over 8k, which is probably fine for them.

I always found the old on campus gyms interesting. There seemed to
be more of them in the Northeast than anywhere else.
LIU used to play in an old theater
Rutgers played in an arena that only seated people in one half
the place.
Curry Hicks Cage, the gym at Storrs, Marvel Gym at Brown.
Keaney was a palace compared to some of what was around pre 1970.
Guess the Palestra is one of the few remaining places with odd character.

ATP,

exactly like the Ryan Center. steep second tier. last few rows are even with the catwalks. Lots of metal to echo and make it loud.

I first saw the floor photo from Ty’s tweet on my phone, so it was very small, and I thought the floor was already put together and that they had made some terrible design decision... looked like a brick wall!
