Nothing is a lock, until it’s an NLOI, but when have we locked up coveted 4 star recruits in early august. No matter how you slice it we are in the running for better players, earlier in the process, than we have been before. This is a very good staff in terms of recruiting and grassroots relationships, I trust they are going to get some players. It ain’t the X’s and the O’s, it’s the Jimmy and the Joes.

My take is that people insinuating that this is a lock have been overstating things, and that people worried about still having seven schools to compete with are also probably overstating the risk of not ultimately getting Bishop’s commitment. As long as URI is one of the eight (and that does seem like a virtual lock), my assumption would be that we are in no better or no worse of a position than we have been - which is to say, good position with a real chance and possibly the favorite in a recruitment that is very much still live and competitive.

If so, Rhode Island is the lone northeast team and far and away provides the most opportunities for his family and friends to see him play in person.

Plenty of direct flights from Philadelphia to Providence. Are there any direct flights to Greenville (Wake Forest) from Philadelphia or any of the other schools listed?

He has visited one of these schools. He has a former teammate and friend at one of these schools. I would expect him to schedule 4 or 5 officials but never take them all. He will make his official visit to Kingston in Sept. Did people expect him to get 21 offers and just verbally committ to URI in August?

With the A-10 having SEVEN teams in the Richmond to NYC corridor along with its tournament usually located there as well, flights aren't needed to see many URI away conference games. This puts a lot of Rhody games within a four hour drive of Philly. Furthermore, the drive to Kingston from Philadelphia is only a bit over 4 hours if no major traffic issues are encountered in the NYC tri-state area.

I think Ace mentioned this before - it reduces the number of text etc they get every day. Bishop has 21 scholarship offers. A coach from everyone of those 21 schools contacts him every day multiple times. It’s overwhelming.

What's to stop him from just saying his 8 schools right now or whenever he's determined them? I'm with RhodyMob that it's a little much to make an event out of your final 8 schools.

Kids like the attention. It’s fine, it’s a once in a lifetime process. It doesn’t hurt anyone, and in reality fans do eat it up.

Also, this is when these lists can make a school like URI look good and why it’s important to get him in in September and push for an early verbal. Get him committed and feeling good about his choice before some of those other schools go to their plan b’s and make a harder push. Strange list, really, but good for URI.

After a coaching change, with a top 40 class still coming in this year, if we get a verbal from another ESPN Top 100 things will be looking good. Not that they aren't already.

Agreed. I’m not sure everyone on that list would even accept a verbal right now. Going into the season, Imhotep should again be very good and have at least four other D1 prospects in Scott, Riggins, Taylor, and Knox.

Also its not all #1-8 so some of it is confusing, don't think the numbers thing means much
