Mekhi doesn’t play for Boo Williams AAU. He plays for Team St8ment.

Re: '19 MD SF - Mekhi Long (URI Verbal Commit)
Mekhi had 8 points, 3 rebs, 2 assist & 2 steals in 19 minutes in an easy 65-49 win vs Team Thad. Now onto some good competition in the quarterfinals. Under Amour isn’t that deep so there were some weaker teams in Pool Play.

Semi Finals & Finals of the UAA Championship today/tonight. You can watch it free at uaassociation.com. They have an announcer, score, clock etc. It's pretty good. Semis are at 2:45 PT - DC Premier (Long) vs Texas Hard Work on Court 1 and WeR1 (Wahab) vs Team Charlotte on Court 2. Both games are available to watch. The championship is tonight at 7:00 PT.

DC Premier wins the UA Championship. Mekhi is their 6th man. Plays a lot of minutes. Kind of a role player. Not a scorer.

Re: '19 MD SF - Mekhi Long (URI Verbal Commit)
Someone made the comparison to TJ. I haven’t seen nearly enough of Long to compare how they play, but from a stat sheet perspective Long’s little-bit-of-everything does remind of TJ’s high school box scores on a great team his senior year.

Yes, he was #11 and the announcer called him Desire for the semis and finals.

It was not a joke or exaggeration. He was trying for massive dunks contested or starts jumping too early on uncontested.ace wrote:He could be tired, but you hope he would adjust before that many, unless the tweet is a joke or exaggeration.

The kid is just growing into his body. Going to continue to get stronger and more coordinated. I don’t think “not capable of finishing a dunk” is a legitimate concern at this point.

Mekhi has his best game of the July eval period. 16 points in the championship.
On a side note, I really like Ricky Lendo. This team has 5-6 D1 players.
Just won two top tournaments in 5 days. Rhody’s top recruiting area - DMV

I love how you drop in and give us 2 cents worth of “knowledge” from a 5 second video. We are all better off now.TruePoint wrote:The kid is just growing into his body. The growing into his body/more coordinated comment you could say about every 17 year old that is 6’4” or taller. He is 6’7” not 6’10+. He was 6’5” before his Jr year. I have watched him play 7 games. You get a good idea that he needs to improve on offense and finishing around the basket.
I am sure the Rhody staff saw him some last year while watching Tyrese at Massanutten and got feedback from Tyrese in making their evaluation. We all obviously trust Coach Cox assessment of all the recruits.

Re: '19 MD SF - Mekhi Long (URI Verbal Commit)
He is 6’7”. Unless he grows more he would play the three. I think he could be like TJ - good defender, good rebounder and contributor on offense. With the depth ahead of him I would think his first significant playing time would be his Soph year. I am sure he will get stronger with a weight training program.theblueram wrote:Where does he fit with Layssard, Tertsea, Preston? In front or in back?

Re: '19 MD SF - Mekhi Long (URI Verbal Commit)
By the time he gets here you could have Tate, Martin and potentially Bishop all competing for minutes at the 3. I am guessing that is what 83 means by depth, specifically at the 3 spot. Harris at the 4. Cyril at the 5. Dowtin, Fatts and Thompson at the 1 and 2. That's a good team.

I agree Bar, but 3 of those are freshmen. That does not equate to "depth" just yet.bigappleram wrote:By the time he gets here you could have Tate, Martin and potentially Bishop all competing for minutes at the 3. Ahead of him on the depth chart when he gets here for his Fr year. Rhody will have a lot of talent between 6’4”-6’7”

Re: '19 MD SF - Mekhi Long (URI Verbal Commit)
Right, I would say that about any 6’7” 17 year old who is otherwise a good athlete and was getting criticized for missing some dunks - whether I’ve been binging AAU feeds like it’s netflix or I haven’t ever seen the guy play. I’ve watched whatever video is posted here but I’m not claiming to be professional scout of teenage basketball. I don’t think you need to be to think missing a dunk is much more likely to be a fluke than it is a function of some core deficiency in someone’s game. A guy boinking a few dunks in the span of a couple days doesn’t really concern me in a vacuum. If you told me he hasn’t made a dunk since 2016 I’d probably be concerned. Others may feel differently. All I was doing is giving my opinion about it.Rhody83 wrote:I love how you drop in and give us 2 cents worth of “knowledge” from a 5 second video. Don’t really get the aggression in your post, though. I didn’t “drop in” or try to share “knowledge.” I’ve been reading this thread every day because you’re doing a good job with the updates, so I’ve been here. I was responding with my opinion to blueram writing him off as a guy with a ceiling of being the 10th man based on him missing a few dunks before his senior year in high school. I didn’t realize I needed to have spammed the thread for the last several weeks in order to have that opinion (which is not even specific to this particular player). Seems like a weird thing to get all mad online about.
Keep up the good work.

Haha. No harm. I know I didn’t comment on the missed dunks. I just posted a tweet from Capital Hoops who was with the team all week. He needs to improve offensively. Not saying he can’t or won’t improve.

I tend to agree he won't be a rotation guy as a frosh based on what we will have coming back on that team. He may have a shot to get Akele type minutes though

Ricky Lindo is blowing up. He was at Maryland yesterday and they offered. They are trying to convince him to reclassify to ‘18 and start now. They are down to 10 scholarship players after a big man left this week. Lindo is planning to prep this year at NMH. The two other big men on DC Premier (twins) have already verbally committed to Maryland for next year.rhodyblue12 wrote:The guy on DC Premier that looks good in all these videos is #14 Ricky Lindo.
