Ty has a video clip on Instagram of Jacob yesterday shooting 3s.
Family and they mean it.

Edit: Per Ace it wasn’t Jacob

So according to that, Bryant is a guarantee game, which was a safe assumption. Annoying that we still haven't found out what other new games are home and home, which are guarantees, and which might be a different arrangement.

I like the idea of playing a faster pace....playing sets with Hurley worked fairly well for the most part, but tended to break down late in close games where the opponents ratcheted up the defensive pressure on us.

Hopefully that will help us hold on to late leads better than we did with Dan.

The whole game is moving away from 'sets' and more towards read/react offense with multiple options based on the defense. I like it.

Read and react and instinctive play is better than having your head cluttered with 52,000 different sets as Hurley had them do.

We were clearly better the faster we played. When we slowed it down we just weren't very good.

Having high BB IQ players is a huge advantage. Jeff and Fatts have that, and hopefully the recruits will as well.

Is there something scheduled? I don’t see an announcement coming on a Sunday (July 1).

At the last coach's show, Cox said it would be announced on July 1st. Maybe they wait 'til Monday.

Monday is a safe bet. Although, considering the entire country will be on vacation all of next week, announcing it on Sunday might be just as good. I’m sure I will come back to civilization with lots of good things to read.

Agree with that on the sets. How many times in the past did we just waste time on the shot clock and throw up a bad shot at the end of a tight game . Let's do read and react

Good staff. That it took this long to announce shows the hurdles a URI coach has to overvome that others don't. Think Big?

Agree, plus you lose all of the buzz when you wait 3 plus months to.make this announcement. This announcement came out this morning, one of the biggest decisions that impacts the team, and we have 2 responses to it and it is almost 7 PM.

Very anticlimatic. Nobody interested in this? I want to ask Rhody83 why so down on Carrol? Any concerns on the age of the staff? Can they recruit? Does it matter if Ty and Dave already have a verbal and seem to be in good shape with several other good prospects? Are they here to help with running a program, player development and game planning more than recruiting?

Now that the staff is official, will dig into these guys a little more as I do not a ton about them and curious as to what I find.

I am not down on Carroll. Just know what is public info. Cox mentioned recruiting in his comments about both. Some of the current recruiting prospects come from Sutton. Sutton did the leg work and had Cox call to make the offer. Sutton has relationships with players from his recruiting work at Pitt. I would guess that Carroll is just getting assigned a region and contacts since he is coming from AAU.

You could easy argue this might be the best staff URI has ever assembled. All three recruit, two are strong basketball minds according to insiders with Ty getting stronger by the year in that department. I personally love this staff.

Is something going on with the coaching staff? URI has a posting for an assistant coach that opened on Tuesday. Seems odd for that since they already had two postings during June (assuming for Sutton and Carroll) and announced the staff already.

I have been told this is related to a state hiring technicality and that the staff listed now will be our staff. Nothing to see here.

It was great to talk with all the Rhody coaches at the Adidas Gauntlet Tournament this weekend. One thing is clear Coach Cox is going to outwork other HCs in recruiting. The first night I was talking with Coach Carroll and he said he was most impressed that Coach Cox didn’t recruit like other HC’s. He was eluding to the Ast Coaches doing the early mornings/late nights and running around from site to site. He said Coach Cox is recruiting the same way he did as the Lead recruiter. Coach Cox doesn’t have an ego. He is focused on winning key recruits.

Nice feature by WPRI but Yanni needs to brush up on his history. He ended the piece by saying (and writing in the accompanying story) that Cox was trying to get URI to its third straight NCAA Tournament, something that has never been done. Diehard Rhody fans however know this to be false. Preston Murphy and ARD can set the record straight as they were on the teams that went to three straight NCAA tournaments in 1997, 1998, and 1999.
