Tournaments not named NCAA

Unread post by RF1 »

Providence (NIT vs Charlotte) is not the only local team still playing. Bryant will host a CBI game versus Richmond. The Spiders cannot play at home as renovations began on their arena just after the regular season ended. They have a tight schedule to have them done for their graduation in May.

NIT
NIT has high profile teams such as:
Kentucky, ASU, Baylor, Alabama, Stanford, Maryland, Virginia, Florida State, Tenn, UMass, Charlotte, St. Joe’s, Providence, St John’s, Iowa, Washington, BYU
Local teams: PC, UMass, Northeastern
Also: Norfolk State

CBI
The CBI has the following high profiles schools:
Texas, Houston, Purdue, Tulsa, George Mason, and Richmond
Local teams: Bryant and Vermont

CIT
The CIT has teams such as:
Boston Univ, Hartford, Fairfield, Canisius, Tulane, Hawaii, East Carolina, Kent State, Bradley, Loyola-MD, and Northern Iowa

Great breakdown, RF!

Hope the Bryant students fill their gym when the Spiders visit.

CFL would love this thread. Me, not so much. I couldn't care less about any of these loser tournaments. Let know who wins the CIT bracket pool, though.

I actually like the NIT, enough interesting teams to make it watchable. That Kentucky at Robert Morris game sold out almost immediately.

Now that they've straightened it out.
It was a farce when we had to play three games in a row
on the road in the 90's.
There was no structure, just mixing as it went along, based on attendence.

That's true, I tried to call in at 10:30 this morning, the lines were all busy and their voicemail box was full, by the time I was able to get through they had sold out already.

Hope they ride the home crowd to bring down the cats!

Robert Morris leads Kentucky, 28-27 at half. The Wildcats were sleepwalking early, but came back.

I'll be surprised if RM wins, but their gym is SRO.

If they were to win, PC would have an open road to MSG.

Although, if PC plays RM at the Ryan, that should be a real snoozer.

St. Joe's just lost a heartbreaker to St. John's, 63-61. The Hawks had a 14 point lead midway through the second half but let it fritter away. Then, losing by 4 with about a minute and half, they fought back to tie it with a couple of free throws with about 5 seconds left. But then St. John's scored a bucket at the buzzer to win it. Good game .... too bad the A-10 team lost.

Yeah, some good games tonight. The real fun begins Thursday.

If anybody can pick 26 out of the 32 games Thursday and Friday, they will be in good shape. Going to be tons of upsets.

Enjoyed the last 10 mins of the Liberty NCAT game. Great finish. Now locked into the NIT with big bad blue Kentucky down 10 to RMU. Great to see the elite programs leveled by playing a real out of conference road game. Imagine that!!

I'm liking how Robert Morris is playing. They're not intimidated by Kentucky at all. They're really being aggressive on offense.

Absolutely. Calipari and his crew will likely blame the distraction of volleyball striping on the court. When's the last time the Wildcats of Kentucky played a real game on a court with striping for another sport?

Kentucky just isn't very good this year.

If they somehow pull this out, they could lose to PC. Really.

Of course, PC is no gimmie over Charlotte. That should be another evenly matched game.

But I don't know if PC goes into Rupp and wins. They're a different team playing at home at Rupp.

Now, Kentucky playing at the Dunk would be another story, but that's not happening.

Dude from RWU with a really unnecessary, dirty foul on a breakaway. Came across the head with his forearm, so this will be a flagrant II, I believe. That would mean an ejection, two foul shots for UK, and UK's ball.

Don't give it up so easily, RWU!!

Looks that way. Any RM fans here? ;)

Just turned on the BYU NIT game. Another big loud home crowd.

What's up with the NIT this year? There seems to be a renewed enthusiasm for this tournament.

Barely any seats available on Ticketmaster's "choose your seats" page.

The game at the Ryan Center would be $10 general admission. I may have to make an appearance!

Did anyone check in on the Maryland-Niagara game?
You could take archery practice and not hit anyone in the end zones.
Great game by Robert Morris.
Put Cal and Kentucky out of their misery in a very disappointing season.
Shed no tears, as he's got a monster recruiting class coming in.
BYU fans are some of the best in the country. They fill the 22,000
seat Marriot Center every game.

Agree with this. For some reason, I'm perfectly OK with Calipari - I kind of like that he just sticks it to the NCAA and is quite open about being all about the professional development of his players. However, this year's team does show the volatility of even high-level recruits. Chad Ford said in his latest chat that some could come back because Kentucky's season was so disappointing, which means they could have seven or eight first-round NBA talents on the 2013-14 squad.

Meanwhile, #2 in 2013, Julius Randle just verballed to Kentucky. They now have 7 2013 commitments, 6 ranked in the top 20. Their current roster has 4 freshmen, 5 sophmores, and 2 juniors. Declare for the draft so you don't get cut.

Oh yeah, and they may not be done, #1 Andrew Wiggins and #6 Aaron Gordon have Kentucky on their lists.
