2018 NCAA Tournament Talk

Throwing a thread out there for general tournament discussion.

I'll start things off by asking, what upsets are you guys predicting in the first round?

That's definitely one I'm thinking about. I'm also liking the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State. But they could also get blown out, so what do I know?

I liked Nevada until they got killed in their tourney.

with Nevada losing Drew that hurts them big time, that would be like us losing Jefe (Jefe is a lot better) but you get the point about the offensive flow

I think both New Mexico State and Loyola-Chicago are def upset specials

On on the fence about Charleston, i think it will be close, but Auburn pulls it out late

The biggest upset i think will happen is SFA vs texas tech. its in Dallas so thats a wash for travel for both fanbases, but SFA lost only by 5 @ Miss St (NIT team in loaded SEC) and only by 1 @ mizzou, just have a feeling on this one. or i could be completely wrong haha love march madness!

I was thinking for the past like 17 hours. How can we stop Bagely?!!?!

Then it dawned on me that Duke plays a zone. really have to exorcise some demons if that matchup happens.

FWIW my dad said it would be good for this URI team to play in an impossible matchup. Might bring the best out of all of them.

I’m confident we beat OU, but I’d say first let’s focus on Trae and to shut him down, then talk about Bagley

I've seen New Mexico St. play a lot this year. They're a very interesting team. Undersized but they rebound very well and have 3 guards that can shoot and handle the ball.

I also think San Diego St will handle Houston, especially if they shut down Man Bun.

In that same region, I think Michigan can plow through and reach the final four. UNC & X/Zags won't be easy outs but those Mich guys are playing some great basketball

Not that I'm going to complain too much as I'd rather face OU than NC State, but according to the seed list:

URI is the lowest 7, while OU is the lowest 10. Shouldn't we be playing the highest 10 (NC State)? I'm sure there is much more to it than that. If seeding as the only factor I'm sure that's what it would be.

Also, for the 11 seeds, they have:

1. UCLA
2. SBU
3. ASU
4. SYR

Shouldn't the first four be:

UCLA/SYR and ASU/SBU? I see no reason not to have this, unless the winner of one of these matchups couldn't go play the 6 somewhere, but the 6s are FL/MIAMI/HOU/RCU. SYR couldn't play Miami, but the rest is fine. Perhaps a later round? I don't have time to delve in that deep. Just some food for thought.

Im interested to see how the other two A10 teams do. They both came on strong down the stretch.

Bonnies center has been dominant, but that other guy that kept getting fouled against us. I think 11? he is hurt? right?

And Davidson seems to be on to something. But supposedly Kentucky is peaking. Gotta love the tournament.

What a great win for the Bonnie's! And Stockard being the man is an amazing story. He missed 2 full years with injuries and was a game time decision tonight.

Sweet payback for Bob Lanier injured and unable to play against UCLA in 1970. Gotta love college hoops!!!

Bonnies win. A-10 gets a fourth NCAA unit with three games which could net further units coming up minimum. Have already matched units earned ly.

I had no idea Mark Schmidt was born in Providence I knew he went to BC . He may leave Bona for a better gig ?? How bout Pitt ??
Jaylen Adams clutch shot to get the lead with 48 secs left after missing all game

I can see Schmidt leaving for Pitt.....especially if Bona makes a run here.

Mobley and Adams are seniors....and they don't have much if anything coming in next season, at this point.

They have a nice path.

I thought they said something about Providence, but I thought it was my mind making things up.

Schmidt leave? IDK. I saw something that highlighted how hard it was for him to get the Bonnies job or just a job that could support his family. I don't know much about that though.

Not sure how much Bona can pay Schmidt....their BB budget is half ours and one third of VCU's.....he makes peanuts compared to Dan even.....

Schmidt was just born at a Providence hospital per my understanding. He grew up in North Attleborough (where his parents still reside), went to high school at Bishop Feehan in Attleboro, and college at BC.

His name has been thrown out there for the Pitt job by pundits. Who knows if this has any credibility. I think his name is just being mentioned because he is a hot name having done well at a tough job and has some Pittsburgh ties. He coached for six years in the Pittsburgh area at Robert Morris. He met his wife there as she was a native. She still has family there.
