Re: 2018 Conference Tournaments
If the regular season champ got the auto bid there would be no reason to play a conference tourney. No incentive for the other teams. Conference would lose money.

I don’t know about anyone else but I can’t sit and watch a pee cee game. The hate is real!!!
I’d rather watch swimming than a pee cee game.

Yes, my point was to cut out the conference tournaments and instead award the bid to the team who earned it most during the regular season. Will never happen thoughRammgr wrote:If the regular season champ got the auto bid there would be no reason to play a conference tourney. No incentive for the other teams. Conference would lose money.

If anyone is watching the Villanova-pc game, did you just hear Cooley who was really close to a mic bark at the ref “don’t let that fucking kid talk to me!”

Re: 2018 Conference Tournaments
Not sure what thread to post this, so I figured I’d try this one.
One of the best (and sometimes worst) parts about my job is that I travel a ton. I’m usually on a plane every other week and I cover the Southwest for my company which is defined as Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
As a full fledged college hoops junkie, I try to catch as many games as I can on the road. Anywhere from Rice to Stephen F. Austin to New Mexico State, you name it.
Why is any of this relevant? Haha
When I’m at games I always wear my Rhode Island Basketball hoodie and root for the home team. It’s a great conversation starter and has led to meeting some great people. These smaller programs especially respect the grind of rooting for a non-P5 team.
So today as we’re battling for a better seed I’ve received some very nice texts from: New Mexico fans, New Mexico State fans, Houston fans and even a Grand Canyon fan (believe me, they exist) that I’ve met at games and states in touch with. They’re all battling today just like we are.
Hoops is a great social lubricant apparently and all of the random people in the Southwest that I’ve bugged at games are rooting for our Rams. Haha
(Side note: New Mexico fans, both Aggies and Lobos are fantastic. Nicest people in the world and genuinely touched that some 37 year old idiot like me was interested in their basketball scene.)

Re: 2018 Conference Tournaments
Texas Southern played Arkansas Pine Bluff for the SWAC championship today...both teams finished in conference at 12-6...and both teams had losing records overall...15-19 and 14-21. Ark PineBluff started at 0-14. TX Southern started the season 0-13 - all on the road - including losses to Gonzaga, Ohio State, Syracuse, Kansas, Clemson, Oregon, Baylor and TCU. (Toughest non-con schedule in the country, plus major frequent flyer miles). Earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season with today's win, their fourth appearance in the last five years. Just an interesting story...

Cooley must be near the announcers table because I also heard him getting after the refs again just now.

This PC Nova game is great fun. two advantages to watching
1) possible nova shows up in the second game in our bracket journey
2) PC can hang tough, which means we probably could as well

My son is asking me about the PC Puppies team and I don’t know what to say other than the Friar mascot scares children and most adults.
Who knows what’s going on with two mascots at the same time?

Probably the only one watching, but Buffalo is two minutes away from the tournament. 7 point lead.

Nate Oats is a very, very good coach. Two tournament appearances in 3 years in a one-bid conference. Awesome accomplishment.ace wrote:Probably the only one watching, but Buffalo is two minutes away from the tournament. 7 point lead.

I have always heard that pedophiles use puppies and candy to lure in unsuspecting children and now we have proof.

Davidson is the only possible bid stealer today. A lot of nervous bubble team eyes around the nation will be watching the A-10 Tournament Championship.

Odd not having the Big Ten or Pac-12 Championships today. (Though I don't remember when the Pac-12 moved it's championship from Sun to Sat).Obadiah wrote:Twenty-seven automatic bids have been awarded to date with the remaining five conferences holding their Championship Finals today. They are:

I would imagine at this point the selection committee pretty much has most everything set, with various brackets based on what happens today.

Re: 2018 Conference Tournaments
With today's five tournament winners, all thirty-two auto bids have now been determined. The show now moves to the revealing of the at-large bids, and identifying the seedings, who plays whom and where.
Today's tournament winners.
Ivy: Penn
Atlantic-10: Davidson
SEC: Kentucky
Sun Belt: Georgia State
American: Cincinnati

Re: 2018 Conference Tournaments
A10 is kind of always a 3 team league now.
usually there is a team riding high. Another team is not too far back from that team.
And then it is typical for that top team to not win the whole thing.
