Week #13 - Games of Interest
The start of Week #13. URI moves up to the #22 position in the AP Top 25 Poll poll. Virginia retains the #2 in both polls. Re: Week #13 - Games of Interest
Despite being behind most of game Fairfield tied its game with Iona to send game into OT. Just another example of how tough road games can be as lowly Fairfield which has lost seven of its last eight games is making a strong case for a MAAC upset.

Re: Week #13 - Games of Interest
Iona suffers bad loss as they fall in OT, 103-100, to Fairfield. Poor defense play by Iona and got killed by superb Fairfield shooting beyond the arc. Rider now in command of MAAC lead. Iona will have to win tournament to get a NCAA invite in the one bid MAAC.
Meanwhile Florida Gulf Coast romped by North Florida, 103-70, and moved their league record to 8-0, two games ahead of second place team.

Is it ok to root against PC in their game vs. Seton Hall? Seton Hall winning would probably help us more than PC, I think, though I guess it's close. Asking for a message board...

Re: Week #13 - Games of Interest
Overall it probably doesn't make a huge difference who wins but ideally Seton Hall and PC will end up as Quadrant 1 wins so Seton Hall needs a top 50 rpi and PC needs a top 30 rpi. PC is at 34 right now so it's not like they absolutely have to win tonight to end up in the top 30.steviep123 wrote:Is it ok to root against PC in their game vs. Seton Hall? Re: Week #13 - Games of Interest
I’m enjoying being in the Top 25 as the only New England Team.
It’s URI’s time and if it’s one thing I can’t stand is those Projo articles that talk about the great success both URI and PC are having. Trying to be equal to both.
Just URI please.
Go Pirates and whoever else is left on that Providence school’s schedule.
Nothing would be better than URI in the NCAA and PC in one of those Baron pay to play post season tournaments where he would want to pad his season total wins.

Does anyone know what’s behind these 6:30 starts? Not only did we start early last night I noticed several games starting tonight at 6:30. I never noticed this before. I assume it has something to do with television but I’m at a loss to explain it.

Re: Week #13 - Games of Interest
You are correct that URI has beaten both SH and PC. However, the outcome of the game tonight is not a "wash", because of the Quadrant rating system newly instituted by the NCAA.Rhody74 wrote:We beat both so it should be a wash.
URI played SH at a neutral site, so SH only needs to finish with a RPI of 50 or less in order to qualify as a Quadrant One victory for Rhode Island. SH has a RPI of 19 at the moment.
URI played PC at home, so PC needs to finish with a RPI of 30 or less in order to qualify as a Quadrant One victory for Rhode Island. At the moment, PC has a RPI of 34 (which currently makes PC a Quadrant 2 victory for URI). If PC were to finish the season with a RPI of 30 or less, then PC would become a Quadrant One victory for URI.
The importance to URI of having PC as a Quadrant One victory becomes more clear when URI's remaining scheduled games are evaluated in terms of the Quadrant represented by each remaining game: based on the current RPI rankings, the road game at St Bonaventura is the only remaining opportunity for URI to obtain a Quadrant One victory in the scheduled games remaining.
Quadrant RPI Date Team -------- --- ---- ---- #2 94 Feb 2 @ VCU #3 143 Feb 9 Davidson #4 163 Feb 13 Richmond #1 53 Feb 16 @ Bona #4 173 Feb 20 @ La Salle #3 96 Feb 23 Dayton #4 179 Feb 27 Saint Joe's #3 143 Mar 2 @ DavidsonLet go of your hatred. Focus on what you want more of: a better seeding for URI in the upcoming NCAA tourney!

Re: Week #13 - Games of Interest
if we had a handful of quadrant 1 wins I would say PC is not important. but as it stands, pc could be one of no more than three quadrant 1 wins. i have to believe having 2 or 3 quadrant 1 wins is better than 1 or 2 come seeding on selection sunday.
hope the friars win tonight.

It has something to do with CBSSPORTS and Fox.KevanBoyles wrote:Does anyone know what’s behind these 6:30 starts? I think it might be partly a way to get better ratings than ESPN, since most of their games start at 7:00.
Now you don't have to wait until 7 to start watching ball.

My belief is that URI is better off with Seton Hall re-entering the Top 25 so that URI has a Victory over a legit Top 25 Team just like last year when we had the win over Cincinnati - that win gave us considerably more credibility than whatever you call a 2nd quadrant category.NYGFan_Section208 wrote:Not sure anyone is trying to intimidate anyone, but it does seem equally stupid to root against your own best interests...so, to each his own, I guess...
I think Seton Hall win is better anyway - don't get your logic
But as you said to each his own. I personally don't care if people root for PC or not - it makes no difference to the outcome and no difference in anything
The people who tend to want PC to win are the newer fans
You will find very few, if any, long term URI fans rooting for PC ever.

PC is now 8-7 vs the RPI Top 150! Wow. They are a .500 team who beat up on 200+ rated teams. They have four wins against teams rated 233-344. Remove those 4 wins and they are 10-8 vs Top 200. With a 9 point loss to #200 UMass.

Seton Hall wins. In my opinion that is long term better for URI. They have a legit shot at getting back into the Top 25 which will help us.
Only guy who came to play tonight was Diallo with a solid 25 point 10 rebound game
Cartwright was bad going 0-9 for zero points
Lindsay was also a no-show going 0-4 with no points.
West Virginia is struggling. They were #3 in Nation AP and now have lost 5 of their last 6. Cameron Lard, the Freshman from Louisiana, who we also recruited, had a great night with 13 rebounds and 18 points against WVU

Lindsey and Cartwright both had rough games tonight. Delgado continues to be an almost automatic double-double for the Pirates. Now watching Butler-Marquette, despite Marquette’s awful uniforms. They look like the Philadelphia flag, which nobody really knows about (probably because it’s ugly).

i don't think Native is suggesting that your rooting interest is going to impact a game as much as he (as do i) wonders why you, or any other uri fan would put your personal hatred for one team above your love for the rams. a PC win tonight would have helped URI more than a PC loss. oh...and to your previous comment about beating an AP top 25 team being more important...then when comparing resumes, why do we see "vs. top 25 rpi" and not "vs AP top 25"? as a matter of fact, i never see how a team did against the AP top 25 in resume discussions.RhodyRam86 wrote:ramster wrote:and just for the record, no matter if I root for PC or not, the ball is going to either go in the basket or it isn't for either team.NYGFan_Section208 wrote:

My belief is that URI is better off with Seton Hall re-entering the Top 25 so that URI has a Victory over a legit Top 25 Team just like last year when we had the win over Cincinnati - that win gave us considerably more credibility than whatever you call a 2nd quadrant category.
You are not trying to intimidate anyone
Not trying to make anyone look like a fool
Sorry the PC loss ruined you day - go kick the dog
Ans I'm not trying to make anyone look like a fool, I just think it's dumb.

Re: Week #13 - Games of Interest
If pc lost to a bum team then that would be bad, but we need Seton Hall to be top 25 good, rather than two middle of the pack big east teams.RhodyRam86 wrote:Rhodymob05 wrote:Pc lost to a team we beat, it’s a win win win.
EXACTLY---if you believe a negative for your rival is better than a positive for you team.
