For what it's worth ...
... Seth Davis thought the charge on EC was a horrible call:

So did Bob Hurley Sr who watched the replay on my phone and concurred. He didn't square EC up, it was a block or a no call

Wow, were you sitting next to him? He must have been even more crushed than us.bigappleram wrote:So did Bob Hurley Sr who watched the replay on my phone and concurred. He didn't square EC up, it was a block or a no call

Yes next to him and in front of Jim Harrick, but showed him back at team hotel postgame. Needless to say when Dan came back he was spent and pissed! He knew we gave it all we had but also that we got shafted on that call.

Re: For what it's worth ...
Also that tech was for taunting Dan. Really odd can't recall an opposing team ever taunting a coach. First Ennis did it and got warned and then Brooks did. Wonder if there is any history there. Classless punks and their fans were Lame Ducks. Rhody nation was easily the loudest fan base even tho we were outnumbered. The locals made several comments saying as much about us.

We did recruit Brooks, so maybe there's a connection
with Hurley?

Re: For what it's worth ...
I definitely thought it was a charge, but after watching the replay, I think a valid case could be made for a block. EC was a bit out of control, and usually you don't get the benefit of the doubt when that is the case.

I think Ennis is also from Canada, but might have played HS ball in Jersey. I'm guessing he's Tyler's brother?bigappleram wrote:And I believe Ennis is a Jersey kid. Odd

That call might have possibly cost a couple of million dollars.

Re: For what it's worth ...
Sucks as seems like the borderline calls never go our way
The charge block is the hardest call in hoop and it should have been a block as Brooks clearly moved in but as usual they screw poor lil URI and give the power 5 a huge call in the game

Watched the video a few times. I would lean towards a no call. He did move and he flopped. Definitely not a charge. EC missed the shot.

Pete, go to the recruiting page and go back near the
2nd year of Hurley's tenure.
There's a thread on Dillon Brooks.
Go back another year and there's one on Monte Morris.

Re: For what it's worth ...
Brooks showed his lack of class early on with the taunting foul. He took this flop. Refs should not have called this since Brooks was just trying to get the charge and was moving late and into the driver. Just trying to draw the charge. Hate to see games end like this with a horrendous call.
But giving Brooks the call was worse because of the attitude and unsportsmanship he displayed during the game and was not limited to the taunting call only.

Re: For what it's worth ...
I do remember when we recruited Brooks. Is he the one whose dad is an AAU coach in Canada? Or am I thinking of someone else? There was a former URI player who might have been his assistant coach. I think that's what the URI connection was. I'm not positive it was Brooks, but it was one of the Canadian kids we were recruiting.

Re: For what it's worth ...
That stuff was nothing more than competitiveness in a high stakes game. And anyway, why would you expect class from a program that signed Austin (and then had to kick him out along with Dotson and Artis)?

Re: For what it's worth ...
Nothing to do with flop or moving in late, look where EC made contact with him. Over his shoulder and right side of his chest. To be a charge you have to square theguy up meaning EC contact with him is the middle of his chest. That did not happen. Clear block or at worse no call.

They accept some "quality" persons in the Oregon basketball program. Didn't Brandon Austin go there after leaving PC because he was unhappy about being suspended for sexual assault accusations in Providence? Did he not get accused of sexual assault again while at Oregon?
