Re: 2017 Atlantic - 10 Tournament - Pittsburgh
It's not that I hate Gibbs, as he is a phenomenal shooter, but every time I watch him play he makes me angry with his constant pushing off and head down bullying. Rarely gets called for the offensive, but knows how to initiate contact and get the Academy award. Maybe I do hate him.

Re: 2017 Atlantic - 10 Tournament - Pittsburgh
No game will be easy but Davidson will be playing thier 3rd game in 3 days tomorrow. They are not a deep team. Thats much better than playing Dayton with a big crowd behind them. I think the winner of us and StB will win tomorrow. I'm worried more about this game than tomorrow.

What if we lose a really close game to VCU in the final? Still not in?

Totally agree. I think if we make it to the finals we SHOULD be good. Davidson is a top 100 team so it's another good win if we can get it.

Also, Davidson doesn't have much depth and they've played 2 days in a row. Tomorrow will be 3, and I think we'll wear them out (I'm not looking past the Bonnie's I just think we'll win). They've had endurance issues this year.

Re: 2017 Atlantic - 10 Tournament - Pittsburgh
Now we need VCU to lose. Losing to them in the finals doesn't help us at all. And the selections will already be made before the title game. We are either in it with two more wins, or we needed to win the auto bid all along.

They got outscored again in the second half today, they just built up too big of a lead in the first half for Dayton to win.Justns11 wrote:Also, Davidson doesn't have much depth and they've played 2 days in a row. As a thought since I feel like we have to win the whole tournament to feel safe - if George Mason wins VCU probably doesn't drop out of the top 25 and they would crack the top 100.
If we're sitting there on Sunday waiting, I'd rather play anyone but VCU and have those extra top 100 w's.

Two of the three teams expected to bring the biggest crowds (Dayton/VCU/SBU) are now out. It is going to be one empty arena on Saturday and Sunday. The A-10 leadership gambled on Pittsburgh and lost big time.

Tight one between VCU and Mason. VCU just got two big 3 to lead 58-50.

Drove through a snowstorm for 6 hours this morning to first watch a disappointing loss for Dayton but
a great win by the Rams made the drive well worth it. If they could just shoot fts like a good team
they could be exceptional. Otherwise a very solid performance by the guys. Excellent rebounding and good shooting.
Toomany turnovers though. I hadn't realized that it was 18 until I saw the box score

We win tomorrow as long as Gibbs doesn't go bat shit crazy....again.
We have to be a little concerned about Hass and EC playing on consecutive days....hopefully they are healthy enough where it doesn't impact their performance much.....
TO's shouldn't be an issue tomorrow....but if we play VCU Sunday then we have to reduce that number.

It's a toss up. I think we are the better team than both.reef wrote:So if we beat Davidson who do we want to play in the finals ??
VCU gives us a better chance at an at large with a loss, and also a shot at a legitimate seed with a win.
Richmond is probably an easier task though we did lose to them...
Either way if we do find a way to win today and tomorrow; 8 in a row, 11 of 13, 7 of those against the top 100, RPI in the low 30s, and 11 total neutral and road wins...
Gotta take care of business first...but this feels like a different ram team.

We will just win this tournament. Short of that I will expect we don't get invited, even if it isn't technically impossible for an at large.

Richmond runs that blankety-blank Princeton offense, against which we're vulnerable because of our propensity to lose our men on weak-side screens, leading to open threes.RIFan wrote:Richmond scares me...Just not our best match up. Thoughts?

Who do we really want to play tomorrow? I think Richmond would slightly be a better matchup but then losing to them could bite us in the ass. Worse case losing to VCU and we might be in. I am all about positivity and know we are going to win no matter what but just don't know what would be better for us

This isn't the same Rams team from January that lost in Richmond. This team is healthy. They're battled hardened. They've been in must win mode since February 16th.
How'd they respond? 7 in a row. 4 against top 100 teams. 1 against a top 25 team. 5 on the road and at neutral sites. They are ROLLING.
Best URI team in Feb/March since 1998. Doesn't matter who we play tomorrow, they have to play US.

I would much rather play Richmond and its not really that close. Even though we beat VCU(at home) I think we match up much better with Richmond. VCU forces you to play their style with their defense and I think they would be the team who dictated the pace of the game. Richmond plays a slower Princeton style offense that can be defended with discipline. Playing that slower style also favors us being the 3rd game in 3 days. On the flip side, losing to Richmond = NIT, losing to VCU and we watch selection Sunday a bundle of nerves.

We will beat either team.
Two If's:
If VCU Wins and we lose to VCU tomorrow, I still think we get a 3rd A10 bid along with Dayton
If Richmond Wins and we lost to Richmond tomorrow, I still think we get a 3rd A10 bid along with Dayton
Why would they take VCU if they lose in Semi-Finals when we are in the Finals AND we defeated VCU this season?
After today's dominating performance we should be in regardless.

In that 2nd nightmare scenario, Richmond becomes a bid stealer. More than likely the A10 doesn't get 4 bids. That would hurt.ramster wrote:Does not matter.Tom98 wrote:Who do we really want to play tomorrow? I think Richmond would slightly be a better matchup but then losing to them could bite us in the ass. I think ramster is saying if VCU lost to Richmond they wouldn't get in to the tournament and we'd get the 3rd spot. I don't think that's right, but I think if they'd lost last night maybe they could have been in jeopardy.

Outside events are not trending well for our Rams. Richmond and VCU are tied with at 51-51 with 9+ minutes left in game. We need VCU to win this one for the safety factor.

I actually think this game is playing out perfectly for URI. Whoever we play, they're going to be coming off of a hard fought game against a rival. That bodes well for us.Obadiah wrote:Outside events are not trending well for our Rams. Richmond and VCU are tied with at 51-51 with 9+ minutes left in game. I get why some people are saying they want to play VCU (you're not the only one), because they think it gives us the chance to backdoor into the tournament. But I'll be more confident about beating Richmond than I will be that the committee would put us in after a loss to VCU. Just forget about losing. URI controls its destiny. We are playing our best basketball in a long time, maybe in 20 years. Let's just focus on taking care of it ourselves and not depend on help.
