Yes , you are correct, Brown will visit Ryan again in the 2017-18 season. If Belmont and William & Mary signed home and home contracts, then both would be in the away category new year.

In the other schedule thread, Mike alluded to the fact they'd like to play in the Milwaukee area next year to get Jarvis a return home game. Using that same idea, I'm sure they'll be looking to schedule games in the Louisiana area as well as soon as next year.

Re: 2017-18 schedule discussion
It's a tough spot. Supposedly Big East teams have no interest in coming to RI, so Marquette is probably out. Wisconsin would probably only do a buy game which we don't seem to be interested, so they're probably out. Is there really another Wisconsin team we'd want to play? Could you convince Northwestern to play us in Milwaukee next year and play them the year after in Boston? Evanston to Milwaukee is the same distance as Kingston to Boston, and they have Aaron Falzon who is a sophomore from Newton so maybe they'd want to get him a game in his hometown. Even if both teams are interested, would the matchup be a big enough draw in neutral cities?

1) Northwestern is not giving up a home game to play a game in Milwaukee against a team with limited drawing ability.RhowdyRam02 wrote:It's a tough spot. Even if both teams are interested, would the matchup be a big enough draw in neutral cities?
2) What would be the incentive for Northwestern to play in Milwaukee? They have enough time filling seats in Evanston, IL.
3) Northwestern has no history of playing mid-majors on the road...unless it's Butler, which is regional. They played at Brown a few years back due to the relationship with Craig Robinson and Brown having a couple of Chicago kids on their roster. So they did a 2-for-1 (or maybe it was 3-for-1).
Your options...
1) Getting a check to play at UW-Madision.
2) Getting a home-and-home with UW-Milwaukee...which is the most likely scenario.
3) Marquette. I doubt they'd play an A-10 team. There's no gain it for them.
4) UW-Green Bay. They have had a stronger program than UW-Milwaukee lately.
5) Here's a long shot for you...follow me on this one. Illinois plays 1 game a year at the United Center. They like to bring in a "name" opponent. This year it's BYU. In the past, they've played Gonzaga, Auburn, and others I'm forgetting in the past. If URI could make a "name" for themselves this year and get another pre-season ranking for next season, perhaps they could get a game vs. Illinois in the United Center...which is close enough for an easy drive from Milwaukee. Just a thought.

There is gain for Big East teams to play A-10's teams, just not much to play Rhode Island with Providence being so close and us not being in a fertile recruiting area.

2) In the eyes of many Big East teams/fans, there's no gain in playing A-10 teams. They think they're above the A-10.
3) From the A-10 side of things, playing Big East teams makes perfect sense. Based on history (ECAC, Eastern 8, rivalries, geography), A-10 vs. Big East matchups are benefit to fans, players (who mostly know each other), universities (reducing travel budget, for example for GW to play GTown, URI vs. St. John's, etc.) and now RPI's.

URI @ Houston on Saturday December 10th
Straight shot from New Orleans to Houston on I-10
5 hour drive but that is nothing for people in that part of the country. People travel all the time by car from NO to Dallas to Houston to San Antonio
Family and friends of Layssard and Thompson will be at the Houston game for sure

Re: 2017-18 schedule discussion
For reference, the main teams for this year's tournament are Florida State, Illinois, Temple, and West Virginia (along with Manhattan, Detroit, Winthrop, and New Hampshire). On 11/24 (Thanksgiving), Temple will play Florida State, Illinois will play West Virginia with the championship and consolation games played on 11/25.
Rhode Island was the 5th seed in 2013. They've changed the format since then (it's not a bracketed event), and I think the quality of all the teams in it has improved (no more Metro State). In 2017, they'll play at the Nassau Coliseum, plus campus games. If the format stays the same, they'll have four exempt games- two home games and two set games against Seton Hall, Virginia, and/or Vanderbilt in NY.

Nassau coliseum seems easier to get to then the barclay's or MSG, anybody know that for sure? Just basing that assumption off google maps and nothing else. Curious what the hotel situation is over there as well if anybody knows.

I mean...the Barclay Center is in Brooklyn and the Colisseum is in Nassau County. The Colisseum is much farther away but you don't have to drive thru the city to get there if you take the Throgs Neck to Long Island.

Re: 2017-18 schedule discussion
Per Mike Laprey's post on 08/16/16, Three of our opponents this season (Dartmouth, Belmont, and W&M) are guarantee games and will definitely not be on next year's schedule. Another three of this year's opponents (Valpo, ODU, and Houston) are in the last year of series contracts. It would therefore appear we will only see three 2016-17 opponents (PC, Brown, and Holy Cross) in 2017-18.

The Coliseum is right next to Hofstra University. At least there is plenty of parking unlike the Barclay Center and the traffic in the area
is much lighter than Brooklyn. It is not a bad drive from anywhere including NJ Ct Philly or RI.

I have from a very close source to the program that URI is adding two non-conference ROAD games next year. These should be solid RPI wins, as Hurley is counting on these road wins to boost the team's resume come March. Remember this is for next year. URI will be playing at:
Chop Liver, 11/31
Little Sister of the Poor, 12/24
After the tough stretch of road losses they just went thru, Hurley thinks adding these 2 road opponents will be much more beneficial.

Dan wants everyone to wait until we are into the league schedule before going wacko on him.......
Only problem...we still have to play PC.....or maybe Dan will lobby to end the series...no use losing any more......
And lobbying to play them only at the RC won't work either...we'll still lose.....

I think it was Illinois State begging for a game - give them a ring. Ole Miss accepted Ill St. game via twitter so maybe that's a good route too.
Obviously it's not that easy, but I'd imagine the Athletic Department is making some calls this week while the publicity is still strong...just don't schedule anyone with frontcourt skill and depth, please (kidding, kinda).
