I cannot wait for him to get it this season and to see EC and Hassan really take over this team. It's their time, and they're embracing it.

This is good for us. His recognition and development on one hand...but him as a 2 guard further increases the likelihood that he will play his senior season in kingston.

EC projected as #8 scorer in the country (4 A10 players in Top 10 and 1 more at #12).

Obviously it's pure speculation, but I actually think EC is going to score slightly less this season. I can see an uptick in points per game from Jarvis and JT, as a result of their year 1 to year 2 development and how their shots come along. I can also see an uptick in points for Hass, since with the improved perimeter shooting, there should (theoretically) be more space in the paint for him to operate. Lastly, I also see the bench being more productive, scoring-wise, than it was last year. With the increase production around him, I can see EC averaging something between 14 and 16 points per game. Still a very good scoring average, but no longer will there be the need for him to put the team on his back for scoring opportunities.

Interesting that while some players are getting bigger, Terrell is getting smaller (reportedly 20 lbs.) Getting too big in the upper body isn't always a good thing for a basketball player. Right now, it looks like both Terrell and EC are right where they should be. As Ace said, credit definitely needs to go to Marshall.

So, does EC go into the draft as a projected 2nd rounder or stick around for his senior year and hope to become a 1st rounder?

The season will play a big role in dictating where EC ultimately lands.
If URI beats TCU and beats Maryland then watch out. Anything can happen in these early season tournaments.
If EC shows an improved 3 point shot, team finishes 1st or 2nd in the A10, makes the NCAA, Etc....things could really break for EC.
I believe the finger and foot injuries held him back last year, we will soon all know, including the scouts.

All of this "projected" nonsense is fluid. The deeper into the tournament -- aside from the "we know how to pick and develop foreigners" -- the hotter and more dominant the player, the more he opens the eyes not only of fans, but scouts, GMs, and owners. The "under pressure performers" are endearing, and half of them turn out to be busts.
Just wait and see how the season plays out and how Matthews hopefully develops….

I honestly think those days are long gone. When you could grow for four years and then still have upside. I am not sure how many guys drafted last year were 22 years old. Less than five, right? His value will most likely peak this year. He's healthy on a good team (hopefully makes a run). Still don't see him cracking the first round like I could HM.

There seems to be some confusion with this. Supposedly, he and Hassan were both 17 when they arrived in Kingston. That means both would turn 20 this Fall. But on EC's birthday 2 or 3 weeks ago, everyone was wishing him a happy 21st.

I am a huge fan of EC. I am still concerned about his shot. He needs to be able to make jumpers consistently or he will struggle as they wait fir him to drive as they did last year.

My point was if he stayed until he was a senior, he would be older than almost any other draftee. Being an experienced senior just isn't the positive trait it once was for draft purposes.

Being a senior didn't hurt Frank Kaminsky (22), Jerian Grant (23), Delon Wright (23), and Larry Nance, Jr. (23), from being drafted during the First Round.
Also, Willie Cauley-Stein is now 23 (a Junior -- Gasp!), Terry Rozier a 21 year-old sophomore, Sam Dekker a 21 year-old Junior, Justin Anderson a 21 year-old Junior, Jarell Martin a 21 year-old SOPHOMORE, and R.J. Hunter a 22 year-old junior.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Fwpj27hlP4

This stuff about freshmen being 12 years-old and being able to do a 720-degree dunk is so overrated and what sets back NBA franchises. I understand the rare freshman superstar changing the game, being polished enough, etc., but they are few-and-far-between.
You risk your franchise, I'll take the guy who knows how to play the game and can be a solid contributor, make my team better, and develop.

Here are the first round drafts for 2015 by age:

19 - 8 players
20 - 9 players
21 - 6 players
22 - 5 players
23 - 2 players

so over 43% were 21 or older.

Not sure why this is so hard to understand. It's rare to improve your draft stock between junior and senior years. Yes...it does happen. Yes...there are other reasons to come back to school. Improving draft stock, especially for a guy who has started from early on, is not one of them.

I agree that it is difficult to improve draft stock in a senior yr. This is why many juniors that know they are second rounders, still declare. I think it'd be interesting to see how many of those players older than 21 that get drafted are second rounders.

Also gorhody is wrong EC was born in 1994.

Here are the numbers from 2014:

24 - 1 (3.33 percent)
23 - 3 (10 percent)
22 - 5 (16.66 percent)
21 - 3 (10 percent)
20 - 10 (33.3 percent)
19 - 8 (26.66 percent)

So, it's in the 40ish percent range, as far as first round picks that are 22 and older. However, one caveat would be that the lottery is dominated by players 21 and younger, as you'd probably expect. In 2015, Willie Cauley-Stein and Frank Kaminsky were the only two taken in the first 18 picks. In 2014, the first was McDermott at 11, and Adreian Payne at 15.

I also think adding the age of 21 misrepresents/skews the argument of guys leaving after their senior year. Under normal circumstances people turn 21 in their junior year of college, and 22 during their senior year. If guys do a prep year after their senior yr they're even older. In respect to EC if you look at the number of people getting drafted at the age of 22 (what he'll be after his senior yr) it's really not that high.

Give me a break. The kid is 20 (or 21...someone ask for the long form birth certificate), and he was asked a question about his personal performance this season. He doesn't have a media consultant. If you're accusing EC of being me-first, congrats - you're probably the first person to do that.
