Ignore Schneider. Zags talked to the player directly. Also Koch confirmed it.

IIRC, this isn't the first time Zags and Schneider have had a similarly snippy exchange via Twitter.

Wow great news!!! The staff could possibly be 100% focused on '17 recruits before October 2015. Amazing!

Plus some guy named Martin, and this other dude named Iverson. That might be a pretty decent front court.wgracie99 wrote:A 6-8, 6-9, 6-10 plus (bulky) Berry for next year's front court.....wow!

Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
Hot damn! How impressive is it to have these three bigs commit - one after the other? They must really believe in what Hurley is putting together at URI even with the frontcourt picture becoming more crowded as they were committing.
I'm about as optimistic and Hurley-KoolAid-drinking as they come on this board, but who among us could have guessed that we would have commitments from THREE well regarded frontcourt players before the end of September???

So apparently Hurley heard the cries of the Rhody fans and decided that this year he would get ALL the bigs. Good lord what an 11 day stretch for Rhody! More coffee for the closers!

I'm very happy. You never know how things will play out, but the front court could be dominant for 3 years. Four star guards should be lining up official visits for next year.

URI Recruiting Philosophy - 2015
"All of the bigs."
In all seriousness, great job by Dan, the rest of the staff and the players. You don't get three commits like this in 10 days unless you have a good program in the hands of a special group of players.

Just got back from my chauffer's duty and read the news!
It doesn't get any better than this!
Happy Cyril chose Rhody!
Absolutely love what's happening.
I wouldn't rush on Dowtin, just yet. Not if
Ramulous's rumor is true.

C'mon guys, listen to our friend RJ, we are getting scraps that PC would never want. Mind you, they have a 10 page thread about a kid who chose Towson.

Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
Your ignorance is overwhelming. If Cooley needs 1 big and chose any one of those guys over Gabriel, Kieta, or Marfo, there would be a riot among fans. If PC missed on all those guys and needed a player in April because they had a putrid cycle, then they would be good late gets. But you aren't passing on Top 100, Top 150 talent whose final lists you are on because you worry what they may or may not do. Now if you think you have no chance at them, sure, jump ship while you can. If you think there is a puncher's chance, you have to stay in the game. You aren't winning by always being safe, that's a losers mentality. But keep misrepresenting my statements, always glad to clarifybigappleram wrote:C'mon guys, listen to our friend RJ, we are getting scraps that PC would never want. But I'm looking at it from the average PC fan's angle, that doesn't mean it's not good for URI. For a program where we had Rod's rants to read about big men for a few years, it's nice to lock down any need this early and be able to throw all resources at any need you want, or just invest in the future. Replacing Martin and Mathews won't be easy, but Hurley basically gets two years now to do it.

Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
RJ - I see your point but two issues with it. First URI was still in with Marfo and obviously thought he wasn't much better then Cyril to the point that they were willing to pass on Marfo to land Cyril. And second I think a lot of people over hype rankings, let's see how things play out to see what the real skill sets of these recruits are. Dan won't take a player that can't contribute even in April/May let alone September with limited roster spots available.

When the contact period opened, there was a bunch of staffs reportedly at Worcester Academy the first day to see Marfo. Ours was never mentioned.

Don't know many frontcourt guys that have improved more in the last year than Cyril Langevine. Another good front-court pick-up for Rhody.

Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
Cooley wants 1 big. If he gave up on Gabriel, Keita, or Marfo and signed Cyril Langevine, he would be absolutely destroyed by fans. If they missed on those top guys and had to scramble and try to get a next-best list together, then guys like Cyril and Tertsea would be solid pickups. I'm just not giving up on them for that. Marfo? Maybe, since he's not even in the class of Gabriel or Keita. Again, it's all relative to the targets you are chasing and where you stand with them. If Hurley's top choice was Marfo, then it's not as big a drop. If Cooley is looking at Keita and Gabriel, than it is. Quoting me when I am looking at it from a PC perspective is different than what I may think from a URI perspective where they probably got their 2, 3, and 4 targets and should be happy with that.rodfromcranston wrote:"Those kids would be nice April and May pickups as last resort players on a staff that lost miserably on other key guys."

Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
Kind of, but I think it depends on how you look at things. Munford, Biruta, Reischel, Minnis, and Aaman all had Jersey ties. But, if you look at where Hurley has had influence, whether it's Jersey City or Newark (St. Benedict's), that general area is inclusive of NYC, so I'd put Martin in there. Not technically Jersey but way more Hurley/Jersey than anything in the central or southern part of the state.860_rhody wrote:Solid. Is he the first guy from NJ since Mike Aaman?

Just ask any New Catholic Big East supporter. Landing Top 100 ranked player recruits who have never played a college basketball game is better than succeeding in the NCAA Tournament. Subjective hype associated with high school age players beats actual college game results on the court.

Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
It may be hard to believe but RJ seems to be making sense. It is somewhat of a risky scenario for Cooley because there may not be many "decent" bigs to choose from in the spring 2016 signing period.
I don't give much credence to player "ratings" but I am not too concerned about the difference between someone rated as a 7 vs an 11 in the state of New Jersey. If Cyril is really improving quickly I trust Hurley and the staff to make the right move. I wonder if Hurley Sr has seen him play a lot and seen the rapid improvement.

Nice distribution, too, for the primary recruiters. Layssard-ARD, Langevine-Carr, Tertsea-Cox. It's getting easier. Why would Dan want to leave?

It certainly is getting easier, let's hope Dan stays to enjoy the ride of having a well built and fully functioning program for once!

RJ no matter how you slice it you were belittling the signings...all good. Your hints of arrogance are also seeping through, like its a good signing for URI but for PC it would signal catastrophe...again, gimme a break. You had a 10 page thread on JJ Matthews.

Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
There are echelons to the skill level. Unless a guy is at the top of it. Okafor/Towns/Nerlens Noel.
If they aren't then..... theres not much of a gap.
We played LSU 2?3? years ago and they had both Jordan Mickey and Jerrell Martin. Home floor. We beat them because unless the kid is a lottery pick then it isn't this sure thing.
Our 3 bigs are awesome and I can't wait to see where we go from here.

Welcome to the family, Cyril! Took the day off for daddy daycare and was out of pocket, so sorry for not getting the title updated quicker. You guys have to hit me on the pager when somebody commits! Or we need a bat signal or something.

Re: '16 NJ PF Cyril Langevine (Offer)
To me it feels like Dan is building the next VCU! He knows the type of player he wants for his system and he is getting them. All three of these recruits can play D and rebound. A great foundation for Rhody MBB.
Would you rather have your highly recruited front court player who leaves (Chukwu) or the next level recruit who develops into a great all around player (Hassan)? I think these three new recruits will develop into good to great all around players.
