Shooting guard

Findlay Prep
AAU: Team Takeover

Some twitter folks and Bos8, mentioned we may have some interest with IU transfer Stan Robinson. Was a Cox recruit at RU. Would be a SOLID pickup.

Hey - if we are going to play 4 guards - might as well have 6 really good ones! Screw it, let's play 5 guards with Iverson at the "5" let's see teams stop that!

Maybe Dan doesn't look to much into these guys.
He hears from someone with one of our finest accents and they say "you should see Kuran Iverson, he plays like a god!" or " This kid out of Indiana is a legit God! Crean just didn't know how to use him."

Re: '13 MD SG Stanford Robinson (IU Transfer)
Robinson would have to sit out a year, so Biggie, 4, and maybe even EC would be gone when Robinson would become eligible. He was a consensus 4 star, top 75 recruit who had a decent freshman year at Indiana but obviously things went downhill his sophmore season. The question is how many scholarships are going to open up. There's no way Hurley makes that quote about inside play and then doesn't bring in at least one big.

Robinson also says he wants to be closer to home. I'm not a geography expert, but I don't think Rhode Island is much closer to Maryland than Indiana is.

One scholly left. If we no have shot at Kyle Washington or the invisible Greek kid, Robinson would be a very good very good signing.

We were that close last year............Injuries and a lack of depth, were hard to overcome against good teams late in the year.

Re: '13 MD SG Stanford Robinson (IU Transfer)
No, he wouldn't. Do some research, people.
This is an odd one.
Depth at guard was not and will not be a problem.
He was a four star top 100 coming out of prep school.
His minutes went from 18 as a freshman to 11 this year.
He did not make a single 3 this season. He made 3 last year.
Word is, he's not a shooter 33% this year. Doesn't shoot free throws well (60% and 58%)
He's leaving to get more playing time. URI is loaded with SGs.
Unless staff feels EC is leaving after this season, doesn't make
a lot of sense.

We're like the movie "300". 300 against the world.
300 guards that is. They did play great defense though, as long as it lasted.

Re: '13 MD SG Stanford Robinson (IU Transfer)
If it's really down to us and VCU, then I doubt Robinson sucks.
Seems like a talented kid who didn't put it together at IU, for one reason or another. Not dissimilar to Kuran, if you ask me.
Agree with BB, would rather see Washington, the Invisible Greek Kid who is undoubtedly a combination of Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan, or a trained bear, but this kid seems like he would be worth the investment as opposed to keeping the scholarship open.

Re: '13 MD SG Stanford Robinson (IU Transfer)
Matthews, Terrell, Thompson, Garrett,
Akele, and Iverson can play SG.
They are involved with endless numbers of 2016 guards.
How the hell many guards does any team need?
Keep the scholarship open, unless a big drops from the sky.
IU is a guard oriented program, and this kid didn't cut it.
Not the same as Iverson playing for the worst coach in D-1
at Memphis, where nobody develops.
This guy is a newer version of Gordon who played at UMass.

Re: '13 MD SG Stanford Robinson (IU Transfer)
Crean's also had his share of criticism at IU. Garrett, Akele, and Iverson "can" play SG, but won't. It's clear that our lineups and rotations do not fit the traditional PG/SG/SF/PF/C mold. We'll likely be at least a 3-guard lineup for the foreseeable future. We may well be involved with better guards in the 2016 class, but that's a long way off and we certainly should be smarter than looking that far ahead. An open scholarship is okay, but I'd prefer Robinson if those are the only two options.

He had a good freshman season but lost his minutes this past season to James Blackmon Jr. and Robert Johnson (both freshmen and Top 50 recruits).

Re: '13 MD SG Stanford Robinson (IU Transfer)
I wonder about this as a good fit, both parties considered. It seems that with the personnel already vested, there's a greater need for front court help; also, with the logjam at his position, Robinson will not get the minutes he wants.
BIG 10 to A-10; depleted minutes to Nowhere'sville certainly doesn't cut it either way for the young man. How many 20 year-olds buy into "My career is going nowhere and will go nowhere. I'm done at 20."????? It's about opportunity -- what opportunity is there for Robinson at URI to resurrect a "career" without a need?
It'll be a losing proposition for all involved.

Not sure I care about getting this guy. But on the guys they recruited over him, the guy with gray hair in the front of his head is quite the scorer for a freshmen.

Re: '13 MD SG Stanford Robinson (IU Transfer)
Iverson better not be playing the "2." I think that's a problem these days. Every 6'9" kid thinks they should be the next Kevin Durant.
Instead, watch old Danny Manning at KU. He could play anywhere but he wasn't playing the "2."

Re: '13 MD SG Stanford Robinson (IU Transfer)
I saw Iverson a couple of times in highschool.....He wa 6-9 then. He has a good handle for a guy that size. He played both foward positions. Think of his range as being like Hare's on defense, and Malisevic on offense....Comparable to Nik, just taller, quicker, slightly beter shooter

Re: '13 MD SG Stanford Robinson (IU Transfer)
The kid is multi-dimensional, and as Coach Hurley has noted, an awesome talent. He'll figure out where he needs to be on the court. Maybe without a position number. Maybe URI will have a 1, 4 and 5. Uh-oh. What does that mean? Where are the other guys????????

Which college basketball fantasy league are you in?
43 guards, 3 forwards, 1 "center"?
That's right….it's all stats, sabermetrics.

Re: '13 MD SG Stanford Robinson (IU Transfer)
Last year we had 6 guards. Right now, the 15-16 roster has 5 guards. 4 of those guards would be on the 16-17 team assuming EC comes back for his senior year, and if you add one more guard as a transfer that would equal 43 guards on the 16-17 roster.

Re: '13 MD SG Stanford Robinson (IU Transfer)
This team is going to play at least a 3 guard offense, so it makes sense that half or so of the roster will be guards. They have flexibility in having 6'7"+ guys that can play multiple positions. The staff's continued job is to make sure they have the right bigs. Regardless of where he ends up, Robinson needs to get straightened out, pick a dominant hand, and play basketball. He made a very smart decision in transferring out and having this next year to practice and get right.

Re: '13 MD SG Stanford Robinson (IU Transfer)
If Robinson transfers here, two of the '16 schollies have to go to bigs. The third should ho to a PG, unless Thompson can play some PG. I've never seen him play so I have no idea if he can at this level. If EC goes, the 4th should go to a scoring 2/3.

Again, if we get a big in 2016, it means Hassan will spend his entire career
down low, with no development of his game.
This would truly have a negative impact on his possible NBA chances.
Four years of playing out of position.
