87 participants in the Team Scoring bonus contest. The majority of participants expect a higher scoring Ram team this season. The predictions range from a high of 80.50 ppg to 64.20, a 16.30 ppg difference, which is quite large. Another surprise is that a good number of predictions are closely bunched.
Last Year the average was 68.0 for 31 games.
This year only 10 of 87 Posters are below last year's average.
So far this year:
- We scored 3 points fewer vs Pace than against Maine last year
- We scored 7 points fewer vs UMASS Lowell than against UMASS Lowell last year
Of course more wins will put us in a higher score category than if we lost in general, but some very high scoring averages expected for the most part.
Given the offense and poor shooting so far and the fact there are no more Paces on the schedule, it seems that anyone predicting team scoring north of 69 points is in trouble.

I predicted 75 because I thought we were going to be an intense, full court pressure defensive team with a fast breaking style of offense. I have seen neither.
Billyboy, I thought you had a good overall prediction, but your team scoring guess did not seem to match the 17-12 record. My thinking is if we get that level of offense, the Rams would win more than 17 games. GT game is a case in point. You are a good fan and exactly the kind of person I like to see win this contest, but the 75 is suspect. I hope I'm wrong on that one..

In one of Dan's interviews, he talked about forcing tempo and being one of the highest scoring teams in the country. With that type of style, the opponent will score more too. I figured we'd lose some games with scores of 82-79, 85-81 with our free throw shooting hurting us down the stretch. That was my reasoning for my record and scoring predictions. So far, not so good on the scoring prediction.
Half the games being played against solid teams. Tech only has the 1 loss to Marquette and Nebraska has only the loss to us. Then of course Kansas was blitzed by UK.
Team scoring is now 66.95 and that average has constantly declined over the season. RIHoopz14 is now the leader. He had the 82nd lowest prediction out of 87 predictions!!

After the Richmond game RIHoopz14 is still the leader but now with the exact number of 67.14!!!
With one game remaining, RIHoopz14 is the contest leader. The winner of this bonus contest will most likely come from one of these three - Stop! Rammer Time, RIHoopz14, and Shinze88.
Here is a way to look at outcome. If against St. Joe's, URI scores 59 points or less, the winner is Shinze88. If URI scores 70 points or more, the winner is Stop! Rammer Time. Everything in between gives it to RIHoopz14.
Also in the running for this one, this is one I'm hoping to win though. A good 70+ points would hopefully signify the offense getting on some sort of roll, also unlikely to score that much without hitting free throws so that'd be nice as well. Seems quite unlikely to happen though.
My bad when I said everything above 70 would give it to Stop Rammer because I never thought the URI score would go well above that number to reach 78. The lesson is never make assumptions.
So with URI scoring 78 points against St. Joe's, the season total points for 29 games comes to 1956 which is a scoring average of 67.45 which makes the winner of the bonus contest with a prediction of 67.37.......URI_IEP!
It must be some sort statistical impossibility to be the FIRST person eliminated from the prediction contest, but the winner of the team scoring contest. Thanks to all the little people!
Interesting point, URI_IEP, but if you think about it, it is compatible since you did predict a low scoring team and a losing record.
My puzzlement was that knowing that we lost Munford and added two agile freshman guards, why did over 90% of participants think scoring would improve that much. The top guess was 80 which is in the category of Davidson and their 3-point shooting!!

I definitely thought we'd be scoring more playing pressure defense and a more up-tempo style. That obviously did not end up being the case, but that was my thought process when making my prediction.
I doubt Hurley likes run and gun no defense teams.... I don't see us as a high scoring team in the future
F*ck Alacki, DarthFriar, DirtyBeanFriar94, xCoachK, Boxworth, Friar Faithful, bicycleicycle, Matt_Keough, Patrick Norton, the Rosato brothers, and especially Benjamin Lord !

This is literally the first time I've checked this thread since before the season started, surprised to see I had the lead going into the last game! Kinda glad I didn't know though since I ended up losing ha
