This is why teams decline NIT invites. Too many games! Too much travel!

All the excuses in this thread remind me of a former coach.

According to Gil's instagram they took off a little while ago...seemed like a commercial flight, through Phoenix. Nothing easy.

What teams decline NIT invites? I know teams decline CBI and CIT invites, but I don't remember NIT invites getting turned down.

Randy Savage wasn't a dumb man himself. I do remember hearing him "out of character" articulate and serious, and being impressed.

Yes Iggy, which teams decline the NIT?

NC State, which had been the previous year's NCAA champion. Oklahoma State, Louisville, Georgia Tech, and Georgetown,
all have turned down the NIT.

I have a friend that's a huge Randy Savage fan and he told me that the voice Randy used when he was "in character" was his actual voice and that he never really came "out of character".

Not sure if it's true but still found that pretty interesting.

This article explains how teams must opt-out of the NIT BEFORE the season begins. Otherwise, they are obligated to participate.

So now they force you to accept the invite, which explains the commercial flights that have connections in Phoenix on the way to palo Alto???? Cheap ass, no class NCAA.

I guess you could always send the team manager and the walk-ons to play if you don't want to play and really wanted to piss off the NCAA.

Met Savage backstage at the 1st King of the Ring event. I may have been 12 or 13. I asked about his voice for some strange reason and he told me that his voice box was damaged on the ring rope and his voice never recovered. That experience brainstormed the Steamboat angle where he broke his voice box with the ring bell while Ricky was negotiating his contract.

Anybody mention the fact that we lost to Stanford through a series of flukes. Crazy stuff. Then there has been what if with that error for a while.

Now just think BOTH Stanford and URI are back in the same game in the same place. Odd, I feel like a FINAL FOUR appearance would have meant everything and a feather in our cap, who knows a title? BUT Stanford did get there and now they host us in the NIT. Strange the programs are in the same place.

I know we are young and theyre old, the obvious differences, our coach, all that, but still does Stanford winning that Elite Eight just mean that they would host this game 16 years later? Like if we beat Stanford then would we just be hosting them in the same NIT game?

Maybe Dan will show them the 98 game and say "This is the team that denied URI a Final Four". Might provide some motivation. Many of us already have that motivation.

The listing seems something like an airline reservation, when you call US air and fly an American Airlines, but any change needs to go back to us air------

Both games show ESPNU with a comment that says watchESPN. No idea what this means, but hope it means that both channels are active during any crossover of games.

I don’t care if the game is played on the dark side of the moon. High caliber, post season tournament experience is something to be relished especially with a team sporting two freshman and two sophomore starters. A win brings us back to the Ryan Center and that much closer to scratching and clawing our way to a tournament matchup in MSG. Any kid who ever bounced a basketball has dreamed of playing under those lights. I don’t think Coach Hurley and his staff will have little problem motivating the team. I expect T. J. will play a huge part now that things with is son aren’t playing on his mind as much and knowing every game might be the last of his college career.

My only gripe is I will have to DVR The Walking Dead for later viewing.

Their nickname is a color, not a bird. Their mascot is a tree.

From 1972 to 1981, the official nickname was the Cardinals, a reference to the color, not the bird.
On November 17, 1981, school president Donald Kennedy declared that the athletic teams be represented by the color cardinal in its singular form.
