Re: Week #12 – Games of Interest
Wow! Bobby really has a nice thing happening in Buffalo.
Nice arena, wild crowd at a 10:00 Friday night game.
Announcers calling it an "electric atmosphere".
His team is fun to watch. They're blowing out league leader
Kent State at the half.
The Bulls play a swarming defense, but they have a slam dunking,
running offense. He has a bullish 6'7" forward who scores 18.5 a game,
and some nice guards.
If they win this, it will be 23-1 at home.
Kent State hit a 3 near the end of the half and Bobby went wild
at his player for not playing the shooter.
Pulled his two bigs in the first three minutes of the game, because he didn't like their defense.
He's way out on the floor during the game.
All very interesting.

Re: Week #12 – Games of Interest
They are putting on a clinic Rod. This Xavier Ford kid is having quite a night. Very impressed with the student turnout, can we ship them down here for tomorrow's game? Can't say I know much about them, but they are winning in every facet of the game tonight (Turnovers, Rebounding, Shooting). Bobby is fun to watch on the sidelines too, glad he's had a couple good years up there. Won't be long before he's onto a bigger scene.

Re: Week #12 – Games of Interest
This is kind of their Nebraska game. They hyped it as a "black out" game and really went all out to get people there. They needed this game. Their record is good, but they hadn't beat the best teams in the conference. Y'all (and ESPN) are catching them on a good night, makes me happy! Ford average 8 a game- he's going off tonight.
They took a chance on Justin Moss and his health, but he's had a great year. Shannon Evans is a really good player that had committed to the previous coach and stayed when Bobby came on. That right there kind of symbolizes the differences Dan and Bobby faced at their new schools. Bobby inherits an all-conference type player, Dan gets Hare.

Re: Week #12 – Games of Interest
They're putting on quite a show Ace, really impressed. I knew their energy level would be high, but their offense is flowing so well tonight. I'd be lying if I said I knew a lot about the MAC, but I remember watching Kent State face Kansas earlier this year and gave them a ballgame at Phog Allen until midway thru the 2nd half.
Also, for Bobby to lose an all-conference player like McCrea last year who averaged a double-double and not lose the competitiveness is great to see. Granted, it seems like Justin Moss is McCrea 2.0 in both size and stats. In your opinion, how long do you think he's at Buffalo before a move up?

Moss even makes free throws, at 75%.
That freshman PG looks like a keeper.
Now I know why the lead Kentucky for half a game.
Very impressive. The never let up after halftime, either.
Good for Bobby, who I really like.

Re: Week #12 – Games of Interest
I think he stays longer than people think, especially as some have him going after this year. Danny White, the AD, took a chance in bringing him in, but they had Duke related connections. The previous coach was well liked and the program wasn't bad. His family's moved around a lot- from Florida to two years in Jersey when at Wagner to a year in RI to Buffalo. In two years, both his older kids will be in college, which can influence a decision. Do I think he moves on at some point? Absolutely, but I'd give him a couple more years at Buffalo. As we know, though, these things have a way of changing quickly. Besides, if he goes somewhere like St. John's (where both Hurley's have been mentioned), maybe the Dan to Seton Hall talk would stop.
Justin Moss actually has an implanted defibrillator and was told at a previous school that he couldn't play anymore. Watching him puts me in some kind of happy but nervous state of mind.

Re: Week #12 – Games of Interest
Glad to have someone that knows the situation better than anyone on this board in regards to Bobby and Buffalo. I always make sure to keep an eye on them throughout the season. Just figured Buffalo was the classic, pit-stop stepping stone school that most use in the process to jump to a bigger school. He seems to have a good young nucleus there so staying a couple more years certainly makes sense.
Also, for everyone else, Blake Vedder found garbage time minutes for Kent State tonight. Still as irrelevant as he was here despite the freakish height.

Re: Week #12 – Games of Interest
A couple of us have a bet that Bobby succeeds his mentor Coach K
at Duke.
By the time K hangs it up, Bobby will have established himself as a D-1 coach,
plus he has the pedigree being a Duke All American.
When Bobby was leaving, he told me that Cranston would never be the same without him.
Hmmm..............
When did Blake Vedder get to be 7'4"?
at Duke.

I still want Buffalo in the A10, I know Dan and Bob don't want to play each other, but how cool would that be? Dump Fordham and grab Buffalo, Danny v Bobby would be a great thing for exposure and commerce, and the conference would get a whole lot stronger.

Re: Week #12 – Games of Interest
They had a great crowd at Buffalo last night- just under 5800, and it was their biggest crowd since 2010. Their average before that game was under 3000. It reminds me a little of Rhody in that the potential is there, but the fan base can still be inconsistent. Regardless, they pulled it together for an ESPN game and showed well.

I remember some of the Buffalo fans questioning the hiring of Bobby. Are you kidding me? Maybe if Thor leaves URI can steal their AD.

Buffalo and the MAC play a high level of football.
So, there's zero chance Buffalo would ever be in the A-10.

Re: Week #12 – Games of Interest
Lots of Saturday action in the A-10 in addition to GW at URI at 4 PM:
Davidson at St. Joseph’s. 12 PM. On NBC Sports. Road games in the A-10 have been problematic for the Wildcats. St. Joe’s has lost three of its last four, but as UMass learned the Hawks can be tough at Hagan. Upset City?
Richmond at VCU. 2 PM. On ESPN2. In the Battle of Richmond, the Havoc will prevail in a close one.
UMass at Saint Louis. 4 PM. On CBS Sports. If UMass has a claim to any kind of post season play, the Minutemen will have to win this one.
George Mason at Duquesne. 7 PM. Duquesne has been stumbling around and is stuck in a six game losing streak and GMU hasn’t won a A-10 game on the road yet. It seems the Dukes are due for a resurgence.
La Salle at St. Bonaventure. 7 PM. LaSalle is the better team, but the home court gives the Bonnies the edge in this one.
In games involving URI OOC Opponents:
North Carolina State at Georgia Tech. 12 PM. On ESPN3. Can the Yellow jackets make it two in a row in the ACC?
Providence at St. John’s. 12 PM. On Fox Sports.
Kansas State at #9 Kansas. 2 PM. On ESPN. In a battle of the Plains, the Jayhawks come out on top.
UMass-Lowell at Binghamton. 2 PM. Binghamton is bad, but UML in a four game AE loss streak has been playing terrible. Home team wins.
Detroit at Milwaukee. 5 PM. On ESPN3. Two teams going nowhere, but Detroit has the better talent.
W. Kentucky at Southern Miss. 6 PM. The Hilltoppers are on a nine game winning streak that includes wins over ODU and Ole Miss and are too much for a depleted USM squad to overcome.
Nebraska at Minnesota. 6 PM. On BTN. The Golden Gophers are going no where in the Big Ten race, but have the horses to beat the Cornhuskers.
Delaware State at South Carolina State. 6 PM. The Hornets should grab this road test to keep them near the top of the MEAC race.
Brown at Columbia. 7 PM. Brown seems to have lost the way and Columbia is the better team.
Santa Clara at BYU. 9 PM. BYU routed the Broncos in their first contest in Santa Clara, so BYU should win this one going away.

I thought that was a joke or reference I wasn't getting at first, but somehow, he's still playin' hoops. Even though he's 24 and at a lower program, he's still not getting into games. His D1 high for season minutes is probably going to be his time at URI. yikes.TruePoint wrote:7th year senior???Ram1019 wrote:Hey! Blake Vedder!

You need to understand, VCU-Richmond is like
URI-PC.
They don't like each other, and they're in even closer
proximity to each other than we are to PC.
In a rivalry game, weird things often happen.

Re: Week #12 – Games of Interest
Weber looks like he'll be out a while.
Changes their defense, and not for the better. The guy is a steal machine.
Things are definitely getting interesting in league play.
The top of the league is stumbling a little, and the middle is closing the gap on them.
The top 7 are all capable of beating each other.
Davidson is coming back to earth. Of course, St. Joes at home is a big pain in the ass, so I wasn't that surprised they [D] lost tonight. They still shot 14-33 from 3, which is astounding.

Injuries are starting to take their toll as the season goes on.
We need to be healthy starting with the Richmond game, and stay that way.
If so, we have a real chance for that bye in NY.
13-5 does the trick for sure. That's 6-3 the rest of the way. Definitely doable right now.

He could have been an NBA great with good legs.
He was a shadow of himself when we got to see him
play here.
" Before signing Sabonis, Portland's then-general manager Bob Whitsitt asked the Blazers team physician to look at Sabonis' X-rays. Illustrating the impact of Sabonis' numerous injuries, Whitsitt recalled in a 2011 interview that when the doctor reported the results, "He said that Arvydas could qualify for a handicapped parking spot based on the X-ray alone."[7] Nevertheless, the Blazers signed Sabonis."

Yup. Same with Walton.
I always thought Walton's oddball diet lead to his brittleness.
He never had that problem at UCLA.
Only after he became a well paid hippie in Portland, did the injuries happen.
