Game #11 Brown Wednesday New Year's Eve 4PM

Unread post by ramster »

Brown won their first game, lost 5 straight and then won 5 of their last 6 for a 6-6 record YTD
RPI of 229 versus URI RPI
While the 4pm time slot on New Year's Eve is not so great for some, I like the idea of a game at this time and date. Could be worse as PC plays Creighton at 730pm at the Dunk.

IVY Stats Leaders:
Brown has the 4th and 5th best rebounders in the league: Leland King 5th 7.2rpg, Rafael Maia 4th 7.4rpg
Cedric Kuakumensah 5th in FG at 50.5% and 2nd in Blocked Shots with 2.3 bpg
JR Hobbie 2nd in 3 Pointers at 48.1%

Brown leads the IVY League in scoring offense and is last in scoring defense
All Free Throw focused posters will be glad to know Brown leads the IVY League at 73% :o :o with Steven Spieth and Tavon Blackmon tied for 2nd place in Free Throws at 87%. These two guys are 8th and 10th respectively in minutes played so we best not foul these two guys too much.

I'm looking forward to it.
Seems like a month since Detroit. With Brown's
defense, it could be a high scoring affair.
Martin is a good coach, and his teams know fundamentals.
We need not to take Brown as a gimme.

What the hell are you doing? ATP started the last two game threads and they've won those games. ATP starts the threads until the winning streak ends and everyone else waits until he posts. This isn't 'Nam, there are rules here.

RamStampede started the Southern Miss thread and that was our biggest blow out of the season. Wonder who started the Brown PC Thread on their Board

This game will test the character of this Ram team. Brown has the chance to claim the mythical state title since winning will complete a trifecta versus the three D1 schools in RI, so the Bruins will have the edge in motivation and intensity going into the game. URI has to counter the fact they haven't played a game in ten days so some rust is be expected and, second, the Rams have started most games slowly. The challenge is not to fall behind against a Brown team that likes to shoot threes and has good FT shooting. URI has to take advantage of the Bruins inability to protect the ball very well as they have shown 15+ TO's in most of their games - they had 18 TO's against Sacred Heart today including 14 SH steals.

This game starts a critical four game stretch against teams with very high RPI's and a loss in this period will doom any RAM NCAA hopes.

Fair assessment of the URI Brown game by these projo guys.
We better come in and take it to the Bears, who are comin in hot and confident.
Brown is may very well be the best team we play until VCU. Probably not as athletic as SLU, Fordham or Duqesne, but definitely a better disciplined team. I doubt any of them could have beaten PC like Brown did. The Bears are coming to EAT and we gotta defend our land.
If we play with the intensity on defense I know we can, I think we will beat them like 70-45.

Interesting that we're 5th in the NCAA in 3 point defense at 26.2%.
Something that's hurt us in the past.

If we bring our A defense we will win the next 4 games, even if the offense is inconsistent.

We can get by without our best on offense when it comes to that level of opponent. Against VCU, GW, Dayton, UMass, and maybe Davidson, we'll have to play well on both sides of the ball to win those games.

We are going to need to be on this team on the perimeter. Our defense has been really consistent and effective though as Rod pointed out our 3pt pct on defense. Looking forward to this game. I am really having fun watching this team play this year.

Me too blueram. Winning and expecting to win is nice.
Defense makes me smile. We are becoming Ram tough.
Can't wait for conference season to start though!
Finish up 8-3 in the nonconference then turn up the heat in the A-10.

I know. The wait is almost over.

Then it's a game every 3 or 4 days for 2 months, basically.

I think Dan is going to have them ready. Maybe have a couple new wrinkles offensively.

Like was said, can't have any letdowns, any night. As bad as some A10 teams have looked OOC, when in conference our opponents know us better. Especially on the road, doesn't take much to lose any game if the team's off at all.

Refs, FT's, any number of things might not go our way. Have to be clearly better to avoid close game issues. We still have to prove we can win most of those.

I'm guessing Powell has no plans of transferring anywhere. His Instagram account is full of porn and him smoking pot. I'm not sure that's the best way to apply to new schools.

I believe (and I've been wrong) that as long as you are accepted and into school you're transferring to before classes start you are ok. At least that how it was for Billy.

Someone else mentioned it in the thread for the line, but with rust being a factor, there's a good shot of getting off to a slow start. If we're up at halftime I think it will be a very nice New Year's Eve for us.

And while I'm bringing up other people's points, last night Steve McDonald made an interesting comparison between us and PC when it comes to Brown. PC likes to play zone, so Brown was able to get off outside shots and when they made them it doomed PC. We like to play man to man, and our athleticism on the defensive end could make it much harder for Brown to get off the good outside shots that they used to beat PC.

Of course not. There's care being taken here to not put up someone's whole personal business.

Several of the players have other social media accounts, but there's responsibility in how they're used. I think that's a fair compromise, compared to some programs who restrict everything.

But seriously, can it be game time already?

BTW, no rust for Rhody as feared, 22 points in the first 8 minutes.
