So, Terrell will be on Petteway. I'm guessing Hassan is on Shields? Their guards could be a bad defensive matchup for Garrett. He might not come in 'til the St. Anthony's kid comes in for Nebraska.

Overall, they are bigger and more experienced and will have the best player on the court (all due respect to EC). Going to need big efforts from a few different guys. I am really curious to see how this team responds to being tested. Who sticks their chest out and is ready for the fight? Looking forward to finding out!

Re: Game #3 - Rhode Island vs. (21) Nebraska - Saturday, Nov
This is an experienced team which returned most of its scoring and defensive capability from last season’s NCAA team. The Huskers pride themselves on their defensive ability and this was further strengthened by the addition to the coaching staff of Jim Molinari noted for his defensive smarts. On the offense, Nebraska employs a dribble drive penetration offense, but they show a strong defense against that same offense. This will be a big test for EC after his erratic play in the Pace and Lowell games as he must play smarter and not force himself into a collapsing defense resulting in turnovers.
This is big team so our guard play has to be particularly good on ball handling and shooting. There is a question about Nebraska’s depth and exploiting this weakness by substitution and drawing fouls could determine the game’s outcome.

Parker is their first guard off the bench and he's only 5'9".
Garrett's quickness could more than make up for his lack of size,
So, what are we going to do, hide him whenever we have big guards as opponents?
Don't recall Silk Owens, Jiggy Williamson or Tyson Wheeler sitting because their opposite number
was bigger.
They'd have played very little if that were the case.
I'm not worried about our guards. It's the fouls up front that concern me.

No, but matching him up against a team whose smallest starter is 6'4" could be a problem. I know Jarvis is listed at 6'0", but he's closer to 5'10". I think you know I love Jarvis as a player.rodfromcranston wrote:Parker is their first guard off the bench and he's only 5'9".

If part of our strategy is to speed the game up into a full-court contest and to run whenever we can to combat their size, I'd almost think you might see more of Garrett if Dan believes (as I do) that he is already our best open court ball handler and distributor.

Exactly!
He could be very disruptive in a running game.
I don't want him to get typecast as a guy who can only play
against certain types of opponents.

I'll admit I don't know much about their guards. Are they post up type guards or more perimeter players? Jarvis can handle them on the perimeter with his quickness. I just wonder if Nebraska would post up on Jarvis with one of their guards. If so, that's where Hassan could come into play.

Miles in his presser said they haven't been rebounding well, URI needs to get some offensive rebounds and turn them into points

Re: Game #3 - Rhode Island vs. (21) Nebraska - Saturday, Nov
Nebraska will not look to run with us unless they have a decided advantage. Biruta will be key. He will be called upon to defend while not committing fouls. While he didn't foul against Pace and Lowell, Gil's defense was porous. Nebraska's inside players are much better.
I expect Nebraska to pressure EC all the time. We need someone else to step up and score from the outside.
Then again, if we shoot FT's at less than 65%, it really doesn't matter.

Thanks, Dan. Interesting comments from Miles, seems like a straightforward guy. Interesting when he said that if Nebraska starts badly, there will be a quick timeout and lots of substitution.

Good PreGame write up from Nebraska site.
http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml ... OEM_ID=100
Interesting success for Nebraska in this year's recruiting class:
Illinois natives Edward Morrow Jr. (No. 62) and Glynn Watson Jr. (No. 66) are both rated among the top 100 players by ESPN.com, marking the first time that Nebraska has signed a top 100 player out of high school going back to the mid-1990s. The three-member class has been ranked as high as 23rd nationally by 247Sports and 28th by Rivals.

Definition of a perfect evening - Taylor Swift sings the national anthem and stays to root for her local team URI, the recent RI congressional medal of honor recipient takes out the game ball, Bill Murray is present to support his son Luke and to root for URI and URI beats the Cornhuskers!!!.

Sounds like the Huskers have been starting slow out of the gate. We should come out as fierce as we can! If we can get ahead, we should step on the throttle and never look back. I want to see that winners mentality that we know Hurley has in his blood!
ESPN: Nebraska-Rhode Island Preview
STATS LLC
Nebraska coach Tim Miles isn't overly concerned about the Cornhuskers' slow starts. Their struggles on the glass seem much more worrisome heading into their first road test.
The No. 21 Huskers may have a difficult time relieving some of that anxiety against a team that has been one of the nation's best on the boards early in the season. Nebraska looks to avoid its fifth straight nonconference road defeat Saturday night when it visits a Rhode Island squad looking to extend its best start in five years.
After falling behind by six in the first four minutes in a season-opening 80-61 win over Northern Kentucky, the Huskers bounced back from a similar start in Tuesday's 82-56 victory over visiting Central Arkansas.
The Huskers (2-0) led by two with less than four minutes left in the first half and shot 42.3 percent with nine turnovers and only three assists in the first 20 minutes.
Junior guard Benny Parker has provided a spark off the bench with 12 points and four steals in the two games.
"It does seem like when Benny comes in things pop up in a hurry so maybe I will just sub quicker," Miles said. "I don't like slow starts, but I am not ready to change the lineup. Maybe decide schematically what we are going to do."
Nebraska has dropped its last four nonconference road games by an average of 17.0 points. The Huskers lost their first seven overall away from home last season before winning three of their final four.
Things may not be as easy to fix on the boards. Nebraska had a slim 40-35 advantage over Central Arkansas, which had been outrebounded 96-53 in its previous two games, and was outworked on the boards 36-33 by Northern Kentucky.
Shavon Shields, who averaged a team-high 5.8 rebounds in 2013-14, pulled down 11 while scoring 16 points Tuesday.
"We are awful on the glass right now," Miles said. "Rebounding is a little bit of everything, if you do not guard the ball well, you will not rebound the ball well. So it is a little bit of everything. We will have our hands full with that (at Rhode Island)."
The Rams, looking to open 3-0 for the first time since winning their first four in 2009, come in with a plus-17.0 rebounding margin that ranks among the nation's best.
Gilvydas Biruta has pulled down 18 in two games, while Hassan Martin has 16 to go along with a team-leading 39 points. Martin had 18 points and eight boards in last Sunday's 72-56 home win over UMass-Lowell.
E.C. Matthews has yet to get going, averaging 11.5 points after scoring 14.3 per game as a freshman.
"We know we're playing a good team, so we can't make a lot of mistakes," senior T.J. Buchanan said. "We have to make shots and most importantly, we have to defend."
The Rams have limited opponents to 36.4 percent shooting, including 5 of 28 from 3-point range. They'll have to keep a close watch on Terran Petteway, who followed up a 25-point effort in the opener with 23 against Central Arkansas. Petteway, who led the Big Ten with 18.1 points per game in 2013-14, has made 9 of 18 from beyond the arc.
The Cornhuskers cruised to an 83-63 home win in the only meeting between the teams on Nov. 20, 2011.
Rhode Island has dropped its last 26 games versus ranked opponents.

All three of those are examples of how music has become only marketing and no substance, and it is made even worse by the fact that the "stars" are so convinced of their talent and brilliance. I don't believe that any of them are exceptionally talented. Bill Murray - that guy is talented. Now back to the matter at hand.rodfromcranston wrote:You don't get Taylor Swift? OK

I apologize for deflecting this thread to a discussion of music taste. That was not my intention. I was looking at this big game solely from an overall perspective of making it even bigger in the "think big" motif. I should have guessed TruePoint would take it off course and into the weeds.

I'd rather see Miley up there. Taylor Swift can't actually sing.
I really don't like seeing them do that on our court.
I feel like they aren't taking us seriously!

I feel like they aren't taking us seriously!
I'm about ready for us to sink our teeth into those cobs right about now.
Butter'em up and take a big Ram chomp into that corn flesh.
God gave us light and now he has given us Javonte Brown.

I used to shoot like that in my driveway when I was in preschool wearing Oshkosh B'gosh.

I'm hoping the fans are on their feet and screaming when the team comes out of the tunnel. That sets the tone right away. There's nothing worse than coming out of the locker room to silence.

Hopefully the excitement will be at fever pitch as they take the poor, respecting my invite to the Dooley box, coming down to my seats in time for intros, except for a few behind me, the folks in this section mostly don't get too juiced, that energy from section 205 and others will have to bleed down. Looking for big things tonite and the Hurley stamp being branded onto this program, signature win for a great moment in the RC......expanding the Rhody nation zip codes tonite!!

Yes video but no sound on the Cox broadcast coming out of the Ryan Center, as the game starts off.

The refs seem to realize that their is a packed crowd tonight. Making sure they are noticed early and often.
We're going to struggle big time in the half court against these guys. Need to push the ball.

Ugh thats frustrating as hell if the Cox feed isn't working. The first time they charge for it to.
So glad I get SNY right now.
