Rhody vs #1 Kansas?

Unread post by Ram Stampede!!! »

(1-0) #5 Kansas takes on (2-0) #1 Kentucky tonight at 9pm. Yes. I understand Nebraska is the priority for this week but it's tough to ignore a shot to take on the #1 team in the country. If Kansas defeats Kentucky their rank will undoubtedly increase. Any chance they rise to #1 with a win tonight? and If they do reach #1 I would say that only makes this meeting with Nebraska even more exciting/important! Thoughts?

I'm sure their board will remember. Probably one of their worst nightmares. Would love this team to go against a #1 Kansas. Again. (although I think they were #2, #1 in the tournament).

Would pretty cool to play the #1 team in the country.

That Kansas team URI beat back then was absolutely loaded. Paul Pierce, LaFrenz, Vaughn, a couple other guys who played in the NBA also..

Kentucky is.......really good.
I'm not sure if Kansas is actually the fifth best team though. They certainly were no match for Kentucky tonight.

Men amongst boys, and that's saying something against Kansas. I really don't know if anyone will touch this Kentucky team this year. That being said, don't expect Kansas to be afraid to drive inside and put up inside shots against us. They were out of their element tonight, simply being afraid to shoot the ball in the paint. Still a very good team, I just think Kentucky is a level above the rest of the nation.

You know things have gotten out of hand when there are nine white guys on the court during Kentucky vs. Kansas

Man-to-man-in-your-face-take-no-B-S-Defense had the Jayhawks doing the Chicken-Walk…..

Hopefully, Coach Hurley will have devised his own "40 Minutes of Hell" to apply next week…..

I am glad that Kansas has a game before we meet them on Thanksgiving Thursday. The Jayhawks play Rider at home on Mondaty night. I predict that KU will take out its frustration from the UK loss on Rider.

I think there are several teams that could give Kentucky problems.

Kansas just doesn't have much at this point in time for a team like Kentucky.

I think Kentucky's performance had more to do with their personnel than Calipari's coaching "genius." I wouldn't expect us to be able to duplicate their success in taking Kansas out of what they do.

Kansas will beat Rider by 40 on Monday.

No one said Calipari was a genius. However, Kentucky used no zone. Kansas' guard play could not handle the man-to-man, and for whatever reason, Kansas' small forwards were useless as secondary help…..Also, Kentucky used their guards in droves to beat them down. Kansas may not be as "deep" with their McDonald's Superstars" as everyone drooled on about…..That's my point.

The genius of Calipari is simple.
No coach ever, has had all those giant egos and been able to build them
into an actual team.
All these top ranked kids putting their individual games aside to play team basketball.
It's amazing.
Maybe the Dream Teams, but not in college.
Plus, he has them doing something probably few of them did
in high school or prep. He has them playing defense.
Like him or not, Cal is far more than just a recruiter.
One thing about Kansas is, they aren't good shooters. I wish we played
a good zone defense for these type of teams.

Understood, but Kentucky's athletes are the reason Kansas struggled. It wasn't a blueprint that a lot of other teams can implement.

Nothing to take about Kansas from the UK game except that Kansas does not have an exceptionally tall front line. From that respect I was encouraged. I knew after 5 minutes that I was happy we drew 1 of the 2 teams in that game, and not the other.

Yeah Calipari is the man, he had those guys diving all over the floor, playing with all kinds of energy and conviction. Pretty remarkable getting all those guys to buy in.
He's a charismatic guy.

Lester Earl was not on that team. Their point guard was Robertson and their other shooter was Billy Thomas.

So, how much does Kansas drop in the polls after getting blown out by Kentucky?

It's Kansas. They drop maybe to 10th or so. I'd be surprised if they go lower.
