Suggest you listen to Concrete Angel by Martina McBride, or
The Dance by Garth Brooks.
Listen to anything by Alison Krause and Union Station. 27 Grammys and 41 nominations,
tying her with Quincy Jones as the most for anyone still living.
To just dismiss country as "talking about chicks and beer" is
way off base. Real melodies sung by real people.

TruePoint wrote:Haha nice argument. In a career with literally thousands and thousands of lines, you're going to pick a couple to prove a point? And what point are you even trying to make? That you don't relate to the music? We already knew that. That hasn't zero to do with whether the people making it are talented. (Also, while we are here, Dre doesn't write his own stuff, Lil Wayne is terrible and quite likely mentally deficient, Jay-Z's line is illustrative of exactly the kind of word play that makes him good, 50 Cent is terrible and any argument that Eminem is not singularly talented is void on its face.)

Your argument is the same as me saying that there is no talent involved in billiards because I don't like billiards and think it is a tedious waste of time. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean there is no talent involved. Seriously one of the dumbest lines of argument I've ever heard. If cannot grasp that you not liking something is not the same as there being no merit to it, then you are not even a person worth arguing with.
I like this post a lot. As I recall, Eminem won an Oscar for "Lose Yourself". The anti hip hop statements on this board are relentless.
Dammit TP you're beating me to the punch with every rebuttal. Couldn't agree more. 5 shit lines out of millions doesn't prove anything. Every genre of music has lyrics that aren't thought provoking or intelligent. No amount of arguing will change anyone's mind though. It's like arguin politics as Rod stated earlier.

"Talking about chicks and beer" is equivalent to rappers just "taking about drugs, violence, and sex". Both are misinformed assumptions by people who don't understand the craft.

There is a little more to country than that...There is a reason Eric Clapton has invited George Strait, Willie Nelson, Vince Gil, Keith Urban, Sheryl Crow, and others to perform at his Crossroads Blues Festival

I'm glad there are some that work hard at it. I'm mostly a fan of classic rock from the 60s/70s. I do like a lot of other stuff too, like many of the 90s grunge bands (although even though some of them like Pearl Jam and STP are now considered classic rock), old bluesmen and some current stuff. I don't think there are enough that do work hard enough at it like they did back in the classic rock era, especially in rock. Where are the great guitarists today? Where are the great drummers today? Where are the great bassists today? Where are the great songwriters today? Yes, there are exceptions. There are some very good ones. I saw Derek Trucks just last night. He's incredible, one of the best I've ever seen. John Mayer obviously has worked at it. But I don't see the volume of great ones as compared to the past. That's why I don't think rock music is as good as it used to be, because there aren't enough musicians like Clapton who worked on their craft for every waking hour in his teens and 20s. The talent is probably out there. The work ethic is not....just my opinion.

Jack White would probably nominate himself for that list. Styles change, and as they move away from your preferences there is probably a tendency to dismiss or not understand the things that come after. I'm like that with the music I grew up with. I think most music that is out now is pretty bad.

The DJ is the new rock star. Growing up to be a guitar god, or a front man in a band isn't thought of it like it was in generations past. When most of us were growing up you either wanted to be an athlete or a rock star....not so much anymore, now kids wanna be the next Skrillex. Barrier to entry is so low, if you know BPMs and have a good music catalog in your head you can become a DJ. Much easier than learning how to compose music. Perfect for the ADD generation.

Music is cyclical though, so let's hope this is just a bad cycle.

The past couple of years there was little positive to talk about during breaks in play. The strategy was probably to increase the noise in order to drown out the negativity. As all true fans say this time of year, the team will be great next year. No injuries; no sophomore let-down for E.C.; the WD40 Gil has been taking is finally working; freshman will play as if they are upperclassmen; it is all rosy.

Gonna be awesome. I would expect a full general release soon.

BTW, in this short WBB YouTube video you can see some of the soundproofing put on the cinderblock wall below the main scoreboard. Looks much better as navy blue than the beige we had before.

Thorr's response to my email about the press seats..

Thanks for the note. In terms of the media seats we have reduced the number of seats quite a bit over the past couple years to accommodate court side seating which has not only provided a very important revenue stream for us but also “closed” in the court to make it look and feel better. We are obligated to make some court side seats available for TV games and that has worked well also allowing us to provide a good sport for our local writers. The upper seating behind press row has been a place we seat other personnel as well as scouts etc.

We are always thinking about new ways to create a better environment for our players and fans so we certainly are not ever locked into to just one concept.

Thanks again

All the best,
Thorr

Hmmm.. Interesting in the concrete now being blue..

Hard to tell, but it looks better.. But still needs improvement..

I'm sure it's an unfinished product tho..

I still wish they can do something different w that section.. So it doesn't look like am empty block

Now I just need to convince Thorr to take my advice..

I actually responded back.. Told him to extend the press table along the sideline.. Then sell advertising dollars in the led signage for the full length.. And give those press seats back to the people.. School would generate more income that way..

I agree with some of the tweaks suggested here. As a URI fan, I love the RC. The problem is ... it's sterile when you put 4 ,000 in there. There have been some electric times ... the first PC game, St. Joe, the USC game, Seton Hall. Our great new arena artived as a mediocre coach was handed a ridiculous extension. I hope thecurrent guy makes big strides this season.

* Will serve as the main scoreboard for URI basketball games.

Auxilary Video Board Specs
* Dimensions are approximately 8 feet high by 20 feet wide
