Awesome! I assume that comes with a raise to hopefully keep him here for a while?

That's awesome for Preston and for the program. I'm sure other head coaches have taken notice of his recruiting success, so vital to keep him happy.

That associate tag will eventually come off during his time at URI, I believe its only a matter of time.

More than he's getting now, which was recently raised to 100K a year.

I would guess somewhere between 125-150K. That would put him in the ballpark as far as most A10 associate coaches go, I think.

A great pro-active move by Thorr and company.
This is the kind of thing we rarely, if ever, saw in the past.

Do you guys think that Preston will someday be the HC of the URI Rams? This move puts him one step closer, I would think.

Depends how long Dan stays. If Dan gets hired in a year or two by a bigger program, then I think Murphy is at the top of the list for his replacement. If Dan stays longer, Preston will get a shot at another HC gig.

Who can say? Some assistants stay forever, like Hopkins at Syracuse.
It's up to Preston if he stays or goes or what his ambitions really are.

How many guys are career assistants at non-premier teams though? I don't pay attention to assistants elsewhere.

Rod, being a lifer assistant at Syracuse is quite different that being a lifer assistant at URI - I would imagine.

I have to think we have Dan for 3 more years at least. The team would need to show some serious on-court success for him to make another school up his pay.

It's also possible that if Preston gets a job as a HC at another school, that he comes back here when Dan does leave. This is Preston's home now.
