What a great article!
It's funny, NYU and CCNY were bigtime national
players back when.
Neither plays D-1 ball today.
The Garden was the center of the basketball universe. The NIT was the big
tournament, not the NCAAs.
I think that marquee is from the Holiday Festival in 1966.
We beat St. Bonaventure with Art Stephanson's 40 points,
lost to St. Joe's and beat Northwestern. Pretty sure PC was
in the same tournament, which was the biggest holiday tourney of
its day.

Re: Anyone at this game ?
NYC college basketball took a big hit back in the early '50s due to point-shaving scandals. CCNY and NYC dropped big-time basketball, but Manhatten and Long Island U. were involved, too.

NYU had an AA in 1963 named Barry Kramer.
They also had NBA star Happy Hairston on that team.
They were in the Final Four in 1960.
Gave up D-1 in 1971 for D-3.
NYU was not involved in the 1951 point shaving scandal, That was CCNY,
which won both the NIT and NCAAs that year.

Cliff Anderson, whose nickname was, "The Pogo Stick". Heck of a player.
Dr. Jack was part of some great Big Five coaches at the time.
Jack Kraft at Villanova, Harry Litwak at Temple, and Dr. Jack at St. Joe's.
Holiday Festival was a huge tournament and PC was in an opposite bracket.
Jimmy Walker was also named MVP of the 1966 Holiday Festival when Providence defeated Saint Joseph's University and Cliff Anderson in the title game.

My goal is one day to remember some bit of trivia that Rod does not remember!
(of course, I am sure that there is wisdom in the adage that "goals should be attainable."

for those interested in some historical pictures including the first one which is of Art Stephenson, typically undersized jumping center. Yes, rebounding is position and desire.
many more historical pictures on this link, keep scrolling up and down. From the Woodward book.

When I think of NYU basketball, I think of Satch Sanders.
