Remember Tashawn Mabry??
His attempted murder charge was dropped in May. He is reported to be a member of the local sect of the Bloods. And JB was thought to clean up the program. I'm surprised that some college hasn't recruited him. Many Rhody fans had him penciled in as a starter.

Re: Remember Tashawn Mabry
I remember people on the board writing open love letters to Mabry, begging
him to come to URI.
When he committed, there was great back slapping, as if URI just got'the clone of Julius Erving.
Baron didn't run the squeeky clean program he had some thinking he did.

Re: Remember Tashawn Mabry
When Thorr told Baron he had to make the tournament to keep his job Baron, rightly or wrongly, decided to take some chances, beginning with that transfer PG from Michigan. Mabry and Sponge were also risks.

Such a boneheaded move by Jim Baron to bring in bad apples like Mabry, Holton, and West. That season was a disaster from the start.

Cain was suspended from ASU a couple of times.
Ray Lee, was charged with four counts of rape.
So much for the character angle.

I dont think anyone is surprised by this, even Billy's biggest detractors. An ACC caliber player playing in the MAAC. Baron should be filling up the stat sheet.

Re: Remember Tashawn Mabry
I'll bet that when Billy Baron was a little kid, he was REALLY good at playing "musical chairs". But, I'm guessing that he'd never make it to the very end and actually win. He probably changed seats a million times and, in the end, came up short of any prize.

I'm hearing rumors that Florida International and Hofstra are heavily recruiting Mabry now that he has been cleared of all charges.

Re: Remember Tashawn Mabry
Billy is not an ACC caliber player.
That's why he left Virginia.
He's too slow to be a top tier player.
That said, I wish he was on this team, since
nobody for the 2012 recruiting class replaced him.
I thought when he left, Hurley could grab a good freshman
in Billy's place.
Obviously that scholarship is still good for 2013 recruiting.

Rod, good that you challenge that BB was an ACC caliber player claim.
Mabry was cleared of the attempted murder charge in May, plenty of time for some school to get him enrolled for 2012-13.

I was joking, just making light of the Holton signing and the Hofstra burglary ring being busted last week.EasyEdBrown wrote:You have a good source...Holton signed with FIU a week and a half ago.Optimistic wrote:I'm hearing rumors that Florida International and Hofstra are heavily recruiting Mabry now that he has been cleared of all charges.

I remember Delroy saying how Mabry leaving really hurt the team and that he was gonna help the team a lot.

Re: Remember Tashawn Mabry??
Desperate times called for desperate measures. Baron generally recruited good kids but toward the end was willing to take on problem guys in order to cling to his job.
It did him and URI no good in the long run. But Hurley gets a clean slate to start his program essentially from scratch.

Re: Remember Tashawn Mabry??
Does such a man of principle like Baron throw away or compromise in such a way? Seems like he should have not gone down that road even in the face of adversity.
