Post Season Tournaments
Might as well start a new topic so that we don't continue to post under Week 15.
Just heard Coach K give his opinion on the A10 getting more bids than the mighty ACC. "They're a good conference, but..... "

Screw him. The ACC and the A-10 split 16 games this season. The #5 ACC is barely (.0010) above the #6 A-10 in conference RPI. The ACC is not much after the top couple of teams. They had OOC losses to the likes of South Carolina Upstate, UAB, Wisconsin-GB, North Carolina Central, Toledo, Indiana State, St. Francis-NY, Belmont, Boston U, North Dakota State, and UNC-Greensboro. This is not the ACC of old.

Re: Post Season Tournaments
Coach K knows the truth, he's just politicking for his conference, just like Mack did for the Catholic Big East. The A10 has 6 teams who are worthy of an NCAA bid, bids are not awarded by conference affiliation. The A10 was 8-8 vs the ACC this year and none of those games were played on an A10 home court. I also think that the majority of those losses came from the bottom tier of the A10. Should also be noted that our 2nd best team beat the ACC champ on their home court.
I suppose he also thinks that Wichita St isnt a 1 seed since they only have 3 top 50 wins this year.
Nothing more than a coach trying to pimp his conference.

URI OOC Opponents:
Arizona will be a 1 seed
PC probably around an 10 seed
SMU: on the bubble could go either way
Southern Miss: on the bubble probably out

I never get upset when coaches push for their league's teams. But, it's classless to name teams/conferences, specifically, that don't deserve to be in.
As always, I hope Duke (and now X) go quickly.

These piss poor "so called" journalists should call him out when he makes inaccurate assertions like this. All the facts contradict his words. Ignorant observers believe him when no one makes him back up his claim and that is wrong.Shinze88 wrote:Coach K knows the truth, he's just politicking for his conference, just like Mack did for the Catholic Big East. Mike Krzyzewski, while a Hall of Fame coach, is untouchable, no one will call him out, because Mike Krzyzewski is a holier-than-thou-whiney baby. He knows his place in History, etc., He's the Bob Knight, his mentor, of the 21st Century. It won't be until he's past his prime, on the verge of dementia, does something stupid that makes him the lightning-rod of public opinion with a big target on his back, that people will start to pick apart and attack "The Legend." It's typical. All it will take is one wrong step by a Duke supporter, a Duke player, or Mike Krzyzewski himself……..Give it 3-5 years, watch…..

I love that the A10 is a road warrior conference. It's paying off now, and others are taking notice. Stay at home and play crap teams all you want coach k, but don't bitch when your conference ooc record can't match up. Bout time.

Such a pivotal year for the a10. Hate Umass but if they make it to Dook they may be too physical for them. Plus Dook plays poor defense.
But of course its a home game for them and fouls will be called on the a10.
SMU got bumped for Xavier? .... that was a 4th bid bone for the NBE.

I think it was NC State that SMU got bumped for. Who knows if coach K's words made a difference?

Wow at SMU not making it - When's the last time a ranked team didn't make the tournament? Although, that's probably more of a technicality, as there was no way they were going to stay ranked after the Houston loss. SMU is at No. 23 and No. 25 right now. They lost their last three games, although two of them were against ranked teams, Louisville and Memphis.

Seems like a fair question. As an 11 seed, I don't think there was an at large team behind them. And that is with an addition win over a 3 seed they wouldn't have had if they lost yesterday.scine20 wrote:I think it was NC State that SMU got bumped for. Re: Post Season Tournaments
6-4 teams over the Big East.
Watched the ESPN show and they barely mentioned any of the A-10 schools except VCU,
and Bilas mentioned St. Joe's.
UNC for PC is like Forest Gump's box of chocolates.
You never know what you're going to get.
Losses to Belmont and UAB, wins over Louisville, Michigan State, Kentucky,
NC State (twice), Pitt and Duke.
Their foul shooting almost makes ours look good.
Marcus Paige is a terrific player, James Michael McAdoo is one of the most
up and down players around.
UNC pounds the boards. PC won't be able to do what they did to Creighton
in rebounding.
BYU is a team with lots of talent and zero chemistry. Kyle Collinsworth is out
with a torn ACL. He was their glue guy.
My pick to win it all is Michigan State, as the finally have their entire team
together and heathy. Plus, they have my favorite coach, Tom Izzo.
He's never had a graduating class that didn't make the Final Four.
Think about that.

Re: Post Season Tournaments
Rod, always point to that stat with Izzo and the Final 4's. What a recruiting pitch that must be for him. Would love to see that continue, no other coach in the history of the sport has been able to boast that. Based on matchups, I see VCU and St. Joe's with the best chances to do some damage. UMass was severely overseeded, don't see them beating Iowa or Tennessee. St. Louis has played subpar basketball down the stretch, they'll struggle with either X or NCST. Love GW over Memphis and possibly UVA as well. Dayton can definitely knock off an Ohio State team that is offensively inept at times. Great total for the conference though, definitely rewarded the A-10 for the depth it had all year.
I would love to pick my 1A team (Sparty) to take it home, but I just don't see them outplaying Florida. Most consistent team all year. Izzo continues his final 4 streak though.
As for PC, couldn't have said it better Rod. UNC, when on their game, is a possible final 4 team. They embarassed Sparty (albeit back in November) in every facet of the game. PC is playing good basketball right now, and as seen every season, great guard play can carry you. It's not a big man's game anymore like in the 60's-80's. Cotton has that ability to be a Kemba Walker and put the team on his shoulders. I know they aren't a hot pick with people on this board, but I can definitely see them stealing one against Roy and the Heels. As for Iowa State, little to no shot. Too physical of a team with a better PG in Kane.
Just hoping PC making it finally forces us to pick up our game rapidly and make some noise. No reason why we can't be in the conversation next year. A season like Richmond had this year is definitely attainable. Early prediction is an NIT berth for 2015, something I said once Hurley arrived. 3 years is enough time to make a postseason tournament in my opinion. Should be a realistic goal for us next year.
Let the madness begin fellas, looking forward to hearing all of your thoughts over the next few weeks!

From ESPN
If there was one bubble team that definitely played its way into the field over the weekend with a win it was Providence. The Friars beat Creighton for the Big East tournament title Saturday at Madison Square Garden. Wellman said the Friars weren't in the field Saturday afternoon before tipoff, meaning Providence had to win to get in.

Re: Post Season Tournaments
Florida got beaten by UConn And Wisconsin and played in a generally
mediocre SEC. They came within a player falling down for KY, of losing, yestersday.
I think MSU can take them.
As for PC and us, I was thinking that, for years we've said, "well, we suck, but you do too!"
to their followers.
Well, they've gotten to where Cooley said they'd be in his rebuild of their program.
We're competing with Duquesne with our rebuilding.
Dan talks of greatness here. Time to start showing it.
We have made great progress, and have two great building blocks, and a couple of complimentary pieces.
Now, URI needs to step up and add a big and a scorer, to Jarvis Garrett and Earl Watson.
If Hare comes back, even better. A Martin-Hare-Gustys frontline, two sophs and a freshman, backed up
by Watson for two years, could be significant.
Garrett and EC the backcourt. Now for a super 6th man for instant energy and offense, and TJ,
and this could be a solid team by mid season.

Michigan State and Louisville are going to have more picks to win than any pair of 4 seeds ever. They are 2 of the best 3 teams in the tournament. It is hilarious that they are 4s.

I'm tempted to go with the A-10 homer pick and have St Louis beat Louisville. It's almost where to the point where Louisville is so under-rated (seeded) that they're over-rated. Brackets are a crapshoot anyway. Anyone going with a fun upset? I'm thinking Dayton over Ohio State, UConn and Oregon to the Sweet 16...

Cambridge joke
A college student type person comes through the 12 items or less checkout line at the Cambridge Stop & Shop with 20 items to purchase.
The checkout clerk asks:
Which is it?
Do you go to Harvard and can't count or attend MIT and can't read?
