Some of you were wondering why Mike wasn't on the bench for yesterday's game:

Sounds like he's done for season

I think at this point it is fair to question whether he will be back at all. Hoping for the best, but until we seen him in a game again we probably shouldn't include him in the calculus of how the team will be constructed going forward.

With regard to whatever this latest health situation was (presumably it was related), I'm wishing Mike the best.

Hope he comes back. Would be a tough break for the kid. He plays hard.

However, if it becomes evident in the next few months he's all done as a player due to his injuries, that will be 4 openings for next year.

Just sounds like from the absence Sunday and this,
that he's not in school.
So. like the Hare situation, everyone is left guessing
what's really happening, if anything.

Running inside joke.

His absence is medical, the situation remains uncertain.

That's it.

Rod I almost posted about this a few times as well, but had the same concerns as you about starting a firestorm of sorts. I've noticed a few tweets lately that I thought indicated he hasn't been at school lately. Who knows though.

He wants to be at school. His absense is not disciplinary. He's had a serious injury. Frustrating for all but not dramatic.

Yeah, makes sense. It's such a unique situation, so hard to really draw too many conclusions from what we read.

from what I know there is no drama here...it is what it is, a kid who has had 4 concussions in 2 years and they are taking every precaution within reason to get him back to game shape.

Concussions are definitely no joke. Obviously if he's still showing signs of the after effects, they're going to take their time getting him back on the court. I'm not a doctor. I'm not going to speculate, but glad to see this has been taken seriously.

I've had a least four concussions in my life, including being
thrown though a windshield.
It doesn't stop you from doing most things. You're monitored for
certain things, and told not to do certain things.
I thought Mike had 3 in his time here. Where'd the 4th one happen?
I get that Mike can't play, but what about attending school?

Rod - You do realize that some concussions are much worse than others right? I'm not sure if that's what's going on here but still.

When you say, "It doesn't stop you from doing most things. You're monitored for certain things, and told not to do certain things.", it makes it seem like your saying he should be at school and that a concussion shouldn't be stopping him from attending school.

I've had many concussions too and one that kept me in a bed for over a week straight.

I agree, but usually the worst symptoms are those
soon following a concussion.
I'm guessing that's when you week of bed rest happened.
He's been around school for months, he's been at the games.
Of course, there could be things wrong physically from his
altercation, not having to do with his concussion.
Didn't he have some eye damage, possibly some orbital bone
damage?
In any case, not a good situation for Mike.
I hope he recovers from whatever ails him.

I think it is tough to comment about concussions - the severity, the prognosis and the estimated recovery time will all vary on a case by case basis. It is a brain injury, so it really shouldn't be fooled with.

Unfortunately, as we've learned from NFL lawsuits and some of the
tragedy associated with some ex-NFL players, there are serious
possible results from multiple head trauma.
Same with NHL.
Prior to these studies, concussions were regarded as most injuries.
Guys played through it in many cases.
With greater awareness, come greater caution in these cases.

If Mike can't be in school, his injuries must be pretty serious.

Maybe he's doing his studies online.

Nothing to sneeze about, that's for sure.

WAIT, who says he's generally NOT in school? We're inferring that he's not taking classes due to some strange tweet? Did I miss something or is this the only thing hinting at this possibility?

I thought he was saying he was done with classes for the week, or maybe he doesn't have any classes in WK and rather just online courses late in the week. I dunno. Seems like a big jump based on a shaky interpretation.

Ace, am I losing my mind??

Medical situation prevents him from being in the loud, bright strobe environment. He's not fit to sit on bench. Hope he can recover so this doesn't become a long term life changing situation.

I would think Mike will not be on athletic scholarship next year. They will probably move him to academic scholarship. He is obviously not going to play anymore. Carr was saying he had 6 concussions in the past 2 years. They are worried about his health. That leaves us with 4 scholarships to give. With not much happening.
