I haven't seen anything like those 4 drives in a short time period at the 2 minute mark during his freshman year tape against UMASS. Kinda crazy that as a Senior he doesn't look nearly as good as he did as a freshman. Hopefully he get's healthy and gets some of that driving ability back instead of just chucking.

Yeah the explosiveness and creativity are clearly not at the same level.

I think its likely in his head. Confidence in those moves isn't there thus we see the 22y/o old man EC game.

Tough to seem him struggling. Luckily he has another season and off season to build back up, I'm not giving up hope yet for him this season either.

And to assume EC was just going to come back with no rust just wasn't the most likely scenario. It's hard to miss a year. Therefore I'm not surprised with the record at all. Hopefully by early A10 play he is back to himself.

i wish i could watch some EC games pre-injury

do you think he will get back to where he was by next year (if he even stays at URI).

And yet, next TV game, the announcers will heap all
kinds of praise on Matthews, calling him our best player,
future NBA and blah,blah,blah....
He's not our best player anymore.
Hass, and Terrrell are, and Iverson has meant more in
some games.
EC's floor game is lacking on defense, passing,
and lots of turnovers.
Last night, he had Terrell all alone on his right,
going to the hoop.
Instead he chose to put his head down and miss the layup.
His 3 pointer when the defense relaxed at the end
of the was very questionable.

if you look at his stats, they are very similar per year. FG% up, 3-PT % up. Reb, Blk and Steals down as are TO.

terrell had his hands out awaiting a pass

negated that huge hussle play by hassan (i believe) in tip that ball forward...

For whatever reason, EC does that double pump fake when attacking the basketb that just makes it harder for him to get fouled and make the layup, plus gives defenders time to block it, I hate that. Of course when it works its a great play so. Another thing about the announcers, If I hear "Rhode Island trying to dance for he first time since 199...........please no.

Unless he transfers I don't see why he wouldn't be back next season. He has said a few times he only feels about 70%.
I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now and hope he comes back with a huge 17/18 season.

Agree Rod didn't like the 3. Game was over. Just hand ref the ball.

I'm old school hoops tho don't mind me.....

That last second 3 covered the spread for the betters out there!

He had to shoot.. would have been a shot clock violation otherwise.

So bad, it made Sports Center's "Oh, No!" segment.

I think EC is a good kid. My guess it it was just a brain cramp.

Normally with a 9 pt lead and under 10 seconds left you just let the clock expire and hand ref the ball. GW had thrown in the towel it looked like to me and wasn't defending.

Didn't like it but I've had kids playing for me do it, just get excited forget situation and shoot ...simple apology in the hand shake line and move on.

Ooooooh, ESPN didn't like it? Then it must have been bad.

There was nothing wrong or disrespectful with that play. You shoot whatever shot you have in that situation. It just happened that it was in ECs hands from deep as the shot clock was expiring. He wasn't trying to show anyone up but no one is going to just take a turnover either.

he did not make the oh no segment. he made the moose alert aka last second cover of the spread

Glad to hear complaints about not letting up...There's been plenty of the oppo for counterbalance...

It was Van Pelts bad beat segment which he does all the time. It was a bad beat as GW was covering the whole game until that EC shot. I agree up 9 there just run the clock out game was over take the violation

So Reef, did you have URI or did you have GW? Did EC cause you to lose?

This game reminded me of the William and Mary game when we were only up 4 late in the 2nd half. This GW game was in question right up to less than 4 minutes to go. We easily could have lost this one. We need to be aggressive and stay aggressive. I can remember games at GW where we got treated pretty bad by the refs, the GW players/coaches and the fans. NCAA or Bust!!!!

Comes down to coaching again...sometimes these guys just don't seem ready to not play...

True 208, but it seems that every game some number of players do well and seem ready to play and some games some players are not ready and don't do well. So is it good coaching credited for the 2 starters that do well and bad coaching for the two starters that don't and average coaching for the 1 starter that does average?

We really struggled this first half of the season with the 3 guards all hitting on all cylinders.

Imagine what we are capable of if all 5 starters play well this Friday night? Mathews, Martin, Iverson, Terrell and Dowtin? Then have Robinson, Adele, Langevine kill it off the bench?

It's been so inconsistent that there are posters here who have called for Iverson to not start, Mathews to not start, Garrett to not start and believe it or not even a post or two for Martin to not start. Only player I have not read to "not start" has been Terrell. That tells a story about inconsistency. But hopefully we are turning the corner right now

Yes that EC long 3 gave me a stunning bad beat. I was absolutely livid . I was covering that whole game then then they had me pull my pants down and stuck it to me
