We can disagree obviously but given 8-11 v. 4-7 i choose the 4-7 team for the tournament. Those are close enough averages where the other factors like home court opportunities sway in favor of the school that didn't have 19 shots at it. There is a huge difference between a neutral court game in a tournament format and a home game against a top 25 team.rjsuperfly66 wrote:
My argument to that was that I don't think it's a pure win that matters, but a percentage of wins.
If a team is 4-7 against the Top 100, that is a winning percentage of 36%.
So if a team is 8-11 against the Top 100, they've had more opportunities, but also won a higher percentage of those games.
So if it came down to it, I'd probably choose the 8-11 team over the 4-7 team, since the goal is to pick the best teams.
But of course it's not that simple.

Nope. Need 3 and it looks good. Need another win against VCU or one against Dayton......there will be a few things happen that could hurt us on the bubble......bid stealers and the like.

Re: 2016-17 Bracketology
ramster, yup....just like 2 years ago.....but we have to get there first.....
We have to beat Dayton [I'm assuming we get them] and if we do, we're in imo.
If we EVER are going to win a close game against a good team in a pressure spot....that's the one.
Somebody kidnap Scoochie Smith before the game though....just kidding I think.
That kid is freaking money.

Flyers look like an elite 8 team to me right now. They are firing on all cylinders and Archie is coaching his arse off.

Need Marquette and Wake Forest to lose.
TCU and Kstate are playing each other so we are guaranteed a loss there.

I really think 2 wins and we are in, 3 is a lock. Its official if 3 wins that Dayton will be the gatekeeper to us getting in.

Let's say either VCU or Dayton gets upset in the quarterfinals and we face and beat Richmond in the semis. In that scenario, I think we'd have to win the tourney to get in.

Re: 2016-17 Bracketology
If I had to guess VCU will do what they usually do.....get hot at the right time and win the whole thing.......
Like has been said, if we can beat Dayton in the semis, we need to get VCU in the final so if we lose, we still have a good shot of getting in.
I'm doing what I said I wouldn't do....I'm assuming we win Saturday and then again next Friday......
With us, we should never assume anything.

Rhodymob05, it's asking a lot for all these other teams to lose......and we aren't in a position yet to worry about it really....get to next Saturday and we can all chew our nails off then. Otherwise all this is moot.

Re: 2016-17 Bracketology
That's not really true. We are more or less in a flat footed tie with about 12 teams for about 5 spots. So this isn't really hypothetical anymore. Obviously we have to take care of our own business, but it makes sense to root against Wake and Northeastern upsetting solid tournament teams because that really hurts us.

Yeah Xavier should be knocked down to our level at this point.
Doesn't look like they'll be winning very many games for the rest of this year.

Cal has ZERO marquee wins.
The best win they have is Princeton.
Hopefully tomorrow more bubble teams will lose.
If they keep winning like this, it does not bode well for our at-large chances.
We can only survive so many nights like these.
TCU was the only bubble team that lost.
Wake's win was HUGE.
That puts them in a very good spot.
Illinois is back in the picture with a win over Michigan state.

Re: 2016-17 Bracketology
X should be on the bubble - 1 good win against Creighton. Massive losing streak. 0 top 25 RPI wins despite 7 tries.
Still think Wake should be out, 1 win against a top team is not enough when you get so many chances

Anyway, we still have work to do. Do it, and we'll be on the right side of the bubble.

Looks like it's 23 wins or bust. 3 or 4 bubble teams have played themselves into position, possibly ahead of us, and the committee loves those guys. Xavier has the name recognition to get in regardless of their recent slide.

Rhody has clearly pulled away from rest of A10 this year to sit with Dayton/VCU as league leaders. Big drop off from Rhody to Richmond.
