Game 3: Cleveland State (Sat. Nov. 21, 7:30PM)

Cleveland St. has lost three fifth-year seniors to transfer in the last two years. That leaves them very young, with four freshmen in the rotation. Flannigan, after disappointing in his first two years, is off to a good start.
Like URI, they start three guards; no one who plays is over 6-7.
Poor shooting and scoring team. .374 fg, .553 ft, .258 3pters. If the over/under of made threes in this game was 2, I would take under.
Won 19 games and played in CIT last year. Gary Waters is in his 20th year as a college coach.

Picked by Blue Ribbon to finish 7th (of 9) in Horizon.

Starters
Demonte Flannigan, 6-7 jr F, 16.5 ppg, 27.5 mpg
Vinny Zolio, 6-8 sr. F, 8 ppg, 4 rpg
Kenny Carpenter 6-4 soph G, 1 ppg 2 apg
Andre Yates, 6-2 jr G, 11.5 ppg, 6 rpg transfer from Creighton
Terrell Hales, 6-4 soph G, 5 ppg

Playing off bench:
Rob Edwards 6-3 fr G, 5 ppg, 4.5 rpg
Daniel Levitt 6-1 fr G, 4 ppg
Jibri Blount 6-7 fr F, 1.5 ppg, 4 rpg, Mel Blount’s son
Jeron Rogers 6.7 fr F, 2.5 ppg

Thanks Iggy!

Time to move on. If ever there was a needed W, this is it.

Cleveland State lost their opener at home to Akron by double digits. They handled something called a Malone Pioneers pretty easily in their second game, which I assume must be a college basketball team of some sort, but I have never heard of the school or the basketball team.

This team needs a chance to play a game against a team it can afford to make a few mistakes against in a semi-normal environment coming off the 10AM game against a good Valpo team. I hope Rhody can get some of their frustration out on the Vikings. (Nothing personal against them, just more concerned about us.)

Looking for a turn the page game and moving on to a game where the team looks at itself and says, OK this is now us, let's go get on with it......looking for a breakout display of what Four can produce getting hot from three, and as importantly, a more defining role emerging for Iverson..... For me, these two hold the key to big steps in the reinvention of the team....

Yep, I hope this is a cleansing for the Rams and they can feel better about their roles and performance by getting a solid Win.

CSU also trailed "Malone" (if that is their real name) by one at the half. So, yeah...

If we were playing Cleveland State last year I would be very worried, but they lost basically everybody from either graduation or transferring. That being said we can not take anyone lightly. Let's gain some confidence on the offensive end before we head out to Cancun! Go Rhody!

Here's a season preview that considers URI a tough game to win.

a game where the team has a chance to loosen up offensively and get on a roll.
agree Section 105 Want to see Iverson and McGlynn, and Terrell as well to show
the team the way. and Maybe Hassan can get some more confidence on offense.
I have seen him hit jumpers last season. I think we might see an offensive explosion
accross the board. In itself it won't mean a whole lot against CSU, but moving forward
It should help the psyche of the team heading to Cancun.

I want 0.80 D-PPP and 1.10 O-PPP for the Rams. That would mean our offense and defense are clicking.

For perspective, against American we were 0.69 D-PPP and 1.07 O-PPP.

PPP = Points Per Possession.

Kenpom's algorithm says we beat them by the score 72-59 with 69 possessions and 91% Rhody win confidence.

I hope we can get some shots from Thompson. He has great form and hits a lot in warmups he just needs the confidence. Akele reminds me of Ulmer his freshman year extremely athletic, solid d, scrappy. Need these guys to develop faster then we planned.

Did Christion have his thumb wrapped for the Valpo game?

"His (Martin's) 2.82 blocks per game average is sixth-best among all active players. LSU's Jordan Mickey (3.38 bpg) tops the list."

Not bad for Mickey, the Phantom Tiger, who was drafted by Celts and is currently playing for the Maine RedClaws…..

It's not going to be big. It's early in the year, it's a no-name opponent, and most importantly we haven't won anything yet. You have to win to get fans in the building. It isn't alchemy.

Crowd looks horrible during the opening on Coxhub. Student sections actually look decent, it's the middle sections that are empty.

I'm in NYC of all places. Following URI on my phone and Irish on the TV. I'm just a simple man and can't afford the $2500 to sit under the center field score board.
