I think Iverson would be used in the Stretch 4 role if he plays the 4.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
Someday, hopefully someday soon, I'm going to come to this page and find out someone who's eligible to play in 2015 season is visiting us. Maybe even taller than 6-8.
Or, better yet, has comitted to URI.
That'll be a sweet surprise! Have a great day Ram fans. Go Rhody!!

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
The amount of playing time that we can offer a big man right away can not be disputed by those we are recruiting against. That along with the NCAA potential next season will be enough to land us a decent big man. Imo Just looking at our line up tells anyone we are recruiting that they will play big minutes right away.
I have a ton of faith that we will land a big soon because of the playing time we can offer.

We mentioned this player previously.
Looks like he's still on the market, and not turning pro.

NC State coach Mark Gottfried saw 7-footer Georgios Papagiannis this past weekend in Greece. May not decide until June.

Could he really be looking at us? I think he's a 5 star on some of the recruiting sites.

Count me as a blind optimist, but until he lands somewhere I still hope we grab 6-8 PF Deshawn Freeman from Hutchinson JC. He just seems like exactly what we need. Cross your fingers and toes.

Papagiannis used to play at the Westtown School but went back to Greece. It seems just as likely that he'll stay in Greece as he'll return to the U.S.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
Our placeholder post lists Freeman as 6-6. I've seen him listed 6-6, 6-7 and 6-8. Juco Recruiting lists him at 6-8 and ZagsBlog has him at 6-8.
Whatever, he's a big, strong kid who can run and jump. A Hassan Martin clone who can block shots, rebound and put back all those misses by our guards.
I'll take 2 Hassan Martin's in my front court, as opposed to one Hassan and some skinny 6-10'er who has no stamina or strength and gets pushed around like Jordan Hare did.

Wonderful. So, has he visited here? No.
Has he indicated he'd visit here? No.
Has he visited other schools? Yes.
So, until a visit happens or at least is scheduled, he's in the same category as everyone else
on this site.
Interest is a two way street.

Re: General Recruiting Discussion/Comments
I understand Luke Murray has been to Hutchinson twice and Dan Hurley once to meet with Freeman. Nope, to the best of my knowledge he has not visited URI even unofficially.
Freeman has made two official visits; Rutgers and Virginia Tech. He has 3 more official visits he can take. I belueve he has one scheduled to Iowa State.
He's a pretty squared away kid and hasn't pissed his visits away and he's taking his time with his decision. So we may get a visit yet. That's the last you'll hear from me about him.

Jake, like you, I hope we can get him, and I know
staff is interested.
What's not known is, is Freeman interested in URI?
I just think that until someone schedules a visit, or
actually visits, it's one way interest.

They are both '15s. Davis is a top 125, 3.5-4 star player. He'd be a great get at this point. Reyes isn't as highly regarded, a 2 star type.runninrams5 wrote:One of our assistants was in to watch 2 Forwards from Sound Doctrine Academy in Georgia. Shawntrez Davis and John Carlos Reyes are both 6'8"

Reyes appears to be taller than 6'8", he runs the floor well which a big in our system needs to be mobile to hedge screens i wouldn't mind if we ended up with him

"Hare is a long and lanky athlete that is very bouncy and uses that ability to be impactful in the paint. He scores mostly inside 5 feet with the majority of his buckets coming from dunks. He is effective facing the basket and has a decent touch to 12 feet. " ESPN
A young man who has run out of options and has 2 years of eligibility left in which to make a name for himself.....If he has seen the light he could very well be our best option and a very good one at that.....

Based on what I am reading about our recruiting efforts for a BIG I would take a chance on JH. It is not as if he has to regain his shooting touch...... Just play some D, protect the rim and get some rebounds.

The guy screwed the program over twice. And you'd take a chance? On an unreliable, seemingly unstable kid? Did he suddenly change? No thanks!eli#10 wrote:Based on what I am reading about our recruiting efforts for a BIG I would take a chance on JH. It is not as if he has to regain his shooting touch...... What's the chance that's so awful?
We have three open scholarships.
Three next year.
It's not like last year, when we had to stop recruiting Gustys
because we needed the scholarship for Terrell, because Hare was
coming back.

I always liked Hare, and I bought into the stories about his maturation last year and was excited for him to return, but I would not take him back now as a matter of principle.

Yeah agreed, I've been one of the bigger Hare fans around here I think, thought he would have been big for us last year. But I'm just not sure what kind of message that sends to the team at this point.
"Quit all you want and we'll keep taking you back!" Doesn't seem like a Hurley type move to me.

It was one thing last year when Hare went back to Michigan, but hasn't Hare been on campus this year? If Hare has in fact been on campus, I wonder how much was even his choice to leave the team and how much was him not doing things the right way and Dan jetting him.

I agree. I think that bridge was napalmed, all roads leading to that bridge were permanently moved, all maps that depicted that bridge existing were burned and all surrounding land was salted.TruePoint wrote:Either way. According to someone who knows Hare pretty well,
this time, Dan pulled the plugm after the bench incident in the scrimmage game.
It wasn't just that, but an attitude problem, feeling he should have
been working with the first team, among other things.
I guess swearing at your teammate during play is highly unacceptable.
Specifically, "Hey, EC, pass the fucking ball!"
