Now that Sina has a release from Northwestern, do we have any chance or is he headed to Seton Hall?

We don't need four point guards.

What rod said. He'll have teams all over him now.

Seems to me a point guard that can shoot (and Sina can) can easilly play shooting guard.

do you think hurley would love to have X EC and jaren on the floor some of the time. Powell and Biggie seem more like role players.

Unless proven otherwise, counting on Biggie and Powell as the third major contributing guard is wishful thinking. Think that next year's team still need another shooting guard or combo guard to keep everyone fresh

Kids at Sina's level, who already decommitted from two schools, have huge egos.
They are thinking about what position they think they can play in the NBA, not how to come off
the bench at to help URI.
Both Matthews and Martin have been recruited based on them playing their precieved projected
NBA positions at URI
The staff is trying to bring in a shooter. They are aware of their needs.

I agree with Rod.....maybe the kids ego is too big....

Great. Hope Seton Hall wins lots of games for many years.

Thirty days from now, believe me, he'll find something wrong with his decision, and try and back out of this one……...

This says a lot about Seton Hall's NJ recruiting:

NJ Hoops ‏@NJHoops 3m
Jaren Sina is the only ranked NJ Hooper to commit to SHU since http://Rivals.com started rankings in 02. http://NJHoops.com

Did we not set up a profile for Sina? Maybe he committed to Northwestern before we had a chance to? Either way, I'm not going to make one now if he isn't in play. Do we know whether he signed an LOI or just verballed?

He's supposed to sign tomorrow.

TP, why bother? He was never recruited by URI.
The only connection was that his father played here.

Rod, I'm not going to make a profile but I can update his title to reflect his status. I'll wait until he signs.

Didn't Mergin start out at Seton Hall before coming here?

Yes, Mergin was a transfer and a solid contributor. Also, I believe there was a profile for Jaren Sina when people speculated about his recruitment to URI, then verballed to Alabama.

Somebody said they saw Mergin Sina sitting behind the Rhody bench. I couldn't see him. Did anybody else see him?

I'm hearing they're serious about Sina.
May be better off with John Cina, to beat up
opponents.
Questions here.
1. Who leaves? Or do they use up their only scholarship on Sina.
2. Even if someone leaves, do you want to tie up a scholarship
for an entire year, while he's sitting out? Is he worth it?
He would give us a backup PG when Biggie leaves, but would a guy
who has committed and decommitted from so many programs, and was so highly rated,
want to be Jarvis Garrett's backup?

I seriously doubt they'd use their only scholarship, so someone would leave.
Yes, I would take him.
Only he can answer if he's willing to be a backup, but remember that Dan likes to play two PGs at certain times in games.
My guess, as I said in the transfer thread, is Binghampton.

Binghamton is actually pretty nice school part of NY SUNY network I think.

They just recently had a basketball meltdown with failed Mark Macon experiment and are rebuilding again.

Sina could have made a worse choice

Sina and his family certainly have a familiarity with Binghamton and their basketball programs, but he can do better than the American East conference if he wants to. His frequent school changes seem less problematic when you look at them individually- he verballed to Alabama as a junior without really going through too much of the recruiting process and then changed his mind. He was let out of his official commitment to Northwestern following a coaching change. And Seton Hall... they're just a mess.

There are a lot of people in the NY southern tier that are looking for something to do in the winter. I think Bearcat hoops has great potential - tho I wish we had a way to fit this player in. Agree America East is a big step down for Sina. Maybe at this point he just wants to be happy and get a free education .....

Binghamton U is actually across the river in Vestal btw....

The meltdown was due to Kevin Broadus (Macon inherited his mess). He got the school to its first NCAA but recruited many bad character guys. Their behavior backfired on him and he (or the school) was accused of pressuring professors to change grades. Pete Thamel at the NYT did a big expose on them. The school basically sold itself to the devil and has been paying for it ever since.

Binghamton is considered one of the best academic schools in the SUNY system. It has a fairly new 5300 seat homecourt that has hosted the America East Tournament. Their women's basketball coach is RI native (N Smithfield/Lincoln) Linda Cimino.

Again, JS, take your time……Another Big Daddy who always has been involved. It's interesting, but I don't remember Merghin's mommy and daddy so involved in his every move.
This is not worth the trouble.
Watch: If he did enroll at URI, didn't play as much as he wanted, etc., he'd be transferring out of Kingston and be looking at the same schools all-over-again.
Personally, I love the idea of Sina going to South Carolina!!!!!!!!
FRANK MARTIN IN HIS FACE!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, that'll last three weeks of preseason practices.

1) He went through this whole process of having a list, narrowing it down, blah blah blah for Alabama
2) Then he decommitted and went through the the whole process of having a list, narrowing it down, blah, blah, blah for Seton Hall
3) Now he transfers and here we go again

Sickening if you ask me. Just pick a school, you are not that good to be playing schools against one another like this.
I saw him play AAU ball, live, in High School and it does not surprise me AT ALL, not one bit, that he has not landed in a place and role to be successful.
Best thing for him to do is to stop reaching so high and play lower mid major or less.

Ego, ramster, ego.
I mentioned his ego early on in the thread.
Anyone who's that self absorbed to waste people's time
and effort over and over, has a problem.
I don't think he's worth all the time and effort.
Besides, no way is he coming here to sit behind Jarvis Garrett, who
I'd take over Sina, any day of the week.

Oh you are so right bressler.
Just further makes my point and yours too.
I look at many of our players and see humility, yet confidence. I see good individuals who want what is best for the team. Many are exceeding what was expected of them out of high school.
Just not so excited about guys who shop themselves around like Sina.
