Given he missed a year and only was able to complete some online courses, I wouldn't think he'd be all caught up and eligible for Fall even if Summer classes went well. Also wouldn't expect any kind of official report from school or media due to privacy guidelines.

Re: Jordan Hare's Roster Status: Active & on Campus
I've been saying this since over a year ago. Maybe this writer read my posts.
And I tool off 4-5 wins from my original prediction to go with 15-16 once Hare was announced he would not be playing.
As much of a loss Hare was to last year's team I think he could be a huge addition to this year's team - and Biruta could be much better going back to his original position of PF instead of struggling at the Center spot.
4. Rhode Island will be a different team this season with the return of Jordan Hare
The 6-10 big man was the Rams' best player during a trip to Italy in the Summer of 2013 but never played a game for Rhode Island last season after he left for personal reasons in early October. Hare averaged 5.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks two years ago when he was a freshman and his return gives Danny Hurley's team a legitimate rim protector in the middle of the paint. Long, active, and agile, the Michigan native has Ryan Hollins-like ability and drastically changes the outlook for the Rams in the Atlantic 10. Rhode Island went 14-18 last season and lost eight separate games by five points or less. If the Rams had Hare, they would have easily been a 19-20 win squad and played in some sort of postseason tournament.

Re: Jordan Hare's Roster Status: Active & on Campus
I don't want to dampen the celebration, but is this actually a big deal? The big deal is that he can play this semester because he wouldn't have gotten it back if he didn't, but whether he is listed as a soph or junior in school, he still has 5 years to play 4. If he was ineligible for this coming semester he would only have 2.5 remaining years to finish three years of eligibility, so he would have permanently lost that semester.

Re: Jordan Hare's Roster Status: Active & on Campus
When the NCAA is involved, it's nice to have things decided early and with certainty.
Different circumstances, but ask Iffy- not everyone gets their 4 in 5 for sure.

Re: Jordan Hare's Roster Status: Active & on Campus
No, I 100% agree with the NCAA part of it. I tried to emphasize that in my post. The news we got last week that he is eligible is HUGE for us and for Jordan because now he is guaranteed to get a chance to play for four full years. My point was that how he is listed on the roster is kind of irrelevant. If he was listed as a soph with no NCAA ruling that would cost him a semester of eligibility, and if he was listed as a junior with the NCAA ruling he'd still have three full years at his disposal.

Re: Jordan Hare's Roster Status: Active & on Campus
I'm working from the idea that him being listed as a sophomore is the official second part of that NCAA decision- first, he's eligible right away; second, the redshirt year has already been applied meaning a later appeal and subsequent NCAA decision will not come into play. A guy like Iffy will play his three years and then, if interested, will have to apply for a waiver.

Re: Jordan Hare's Roster Status: Active & on Campus
I admit that I don't fully understand Iffy's situation. His actual status in 2012-13 is still a little confusing to me. But I understand that he was actually ruled ineligible by the NCAA in such a way that it did count as a year of eligibility for him, which he can later appeal to get back. In Jordan's case, he was never ruled ineligible, he just was not in school last year. The NCAA's ruling that he is eligible for this semester means he won't lose an eligible semester. The academic progress is a related issue, but I believe that a player could be eligible from an academic progress standpoint and still not on track to graduate in four years. I believe fifth year students that have retained a year of eligibility can play even if they are still undergraduates, and that how the student is listed on the roster is a reflection of his standing with the school, not the NCAA.
Now, I think I am right about that, but I am not 100% confident about it. I'm definitely not confident that what I just wrote makes sense, but I'm too tired to think through it more clearly right now.

Re: Jordan Hare's Roster Status: Active & on Campus
I really do wish Jordan the best and I hope everything is all right with him, but I hope the program just moves on at this point and doesn't allow it to become a distraction. To whatever extent they can be supportive and helpful in his situation, great. But his basketball career at URI should be over. It isn't fair to the other players in the program to have someone that isn't dependable just come and go.

Eh I dont know, it kinda does make sense if you really think about the history here. Sounds like from the Koch article that he was on the verge of being suspended again for multiple team violations. Would not have been the first time.Tom98 wrote:WTF is going on......this makes no sense

Re: Jordan Hare's Roster Status: Active & on Campus
Really? what a joke. I'd be willing to bet DH is mostly relieved if the team violation thing is correct, unless it presents more team academic issues than its worth, the never materializing promise of the Great Jordan Hare can be put in his rear view mirror. Some people are focused and dedicated and some just aren't, I can't say I was very focused or dedicated to anything at his age. Oh well, woulda, coulda, shoulda. Lets see what we've got in Watson and what iffy can do with his second season.

The timing of this is ridiculous. Hare had to have been a major team chemistry problem.
The kid could play, I guess he just hated to practice. Or something.
Does this mean we get a re-do on the prediction contest?

Re: Jordan Hare's Roster Status: Back Out Again
Thats a tough blow to our frontcourt depth but it was probably for the best. Watson and Onyekaba will need to step up in a big way, unfortunately I don't see either of them being the answer for us. Then again Jordan wasn't either but he was at least long and athletic.

Re: Jordan Hare's Roster Status: Back Out Again
Hare could alter or block shots, and run the break like a guard.
Other than that?
He would have helped the other front court guys stay in the game by giving us another 5 fouls.
For Biruta especially, that would have been huge.
Time to move on...

Something tells me he knew.
But again the timing! Unbelievable!
Good big man. Number ONE priority now with recruiting.
The toughest get for a mid major like URI.
We need a '15 AND a '16.
With Gil leaving, we can promise a LOT of PT for them.

Hopefully time will tell if this was really Hurley's decison at this time or Hare's.
If he really is staying in school, I bet it was DH. And, if we really find out the reasons, we will be proud of DH.

McRam, maybe so, but how much did this affect recruiting big men?
Hopefully Dan realized this could happen, and planned accordingly.
Spring recruiting for big men will be huge. 5th year, JC, 4 year, whatever.
As for Hare staying in school, that's important for the APR no doubt.

I doubt Hare was a "cancer" but it was obvious, I guess, that he just wasn't committed to working as hard as he needed to. Wanting to, and actually doing it, aren't the same.

Now we're destined to wonder what could have been with him. He definitely would have been more useful than Jarrelle. But how hard could it be for him to just not do what he's done. He's probably always been a flakey individual who gets his feelings hurt too easy and just runs away from his problems. This huge decision in his life seemed to have just come out of nowhere, like in the last couple days. But anyways moving on....

Re: Jordan Hare's Roster Status: Back Out Again
Believe me, Dan and the staff gave him EVERY chance to succeed here.
They cut him as much slack as they possibly could, without pissing off the other members of the team.
Dan made it clear when he left the first time he wasn't happy, but he put that aside when JH wanted to come back, and tried to work with him and gave him all the support he could.
And THIS is the reward? Stabbed in the back AGAIN! It makes you wonder how much Hare's leaving the first time was family related versus his own shortcomings in the hard work dept.
If he's staying in school that's good, but it makes me think his lack of commitment to Dan's program was the bigger factor in all this after all.
Just wish this had been addressed and resolved a while ago. I guess we thought it was, but not....
