The University officially announces the extension
http://www.gorhody.com/sports/m-baskbl/ ... 0401xqj7x9
He's currently making $630,000, which ranks in the bottom four of the conference. He'll be increased to a guaranteed $1 million as of the 2017-18 season. URI becomes the eighth school in the conference to have their coach in the seven figure category.

Re: Dan Hurley to Sign Restructured Contract @ URI through 2
Pretty bad how low we were in salary compared to the rest of the conference, but nice to see with the URI Foundation stepping in that the whole campus is moving the program forward in a smart way. 16 years to the day our administration showed how unprofessional and unprepared they were for the big stage this administration formally gets the job done.

Pretty interesting how much detail they provided in terms of numbers, etc. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't remember that usually being the norm with these types of announcements.
Some great quotes in there, exciting stuff to say the least.

Who are the other 7 coaches making that kind of money. Logically I see the coaches of VCU, Dayton, St Louis and Richmond. I don't think Martelli or Kellogg are at that level. Davidson??

Many times these lists are salaries, and not the total package. I would think McKillop's total comp is more than $321K.

Re: Dan Hurley to Sign Restructured Contract @ URI through 2
It's hard to compare salaries because some reports are just base salary, others include built-in bonuses and still others will say what the max would be if all perks are met. The million number listed for Dan is not until 17-18.
I don't know what that list is comparing; but, for example, Fred Hoiberg's salary a year ago was listed at 2.6 million, but that list has it at 850,000.
As for the number of conference teams to have offered seven figures, I took it to mean historically not currently. If that's the meaning, then a guy like Stevens at Butler would have counted, even though it was very briefly.

I'm assuming the $1million is just the guaranteed portion of compensation and does not include additional comp such as bonuses and attendance thresholds, buy games etc. If my assumption is correct, Hurley will make alot more than $1million a year.

Blueram- I think buy games would be included in the total figure, but attendance threshholds, and anything else performance-based would not.

So, the million starts in '17-'18. I wonder if he got any kind of bump for the next two years? Or if there were any improvements to the program written into to this one?

This quote from GoRhody seems to indicate that there will be a progressive increase each year until 2017.

The money Dan is going to get from ticket sales, is a big chunk of those sales.
Somewhere between one third, and one half, of all ticket revenue will be going to him.

TP, I believe this is what you're looking for: http://www.nycbuckets.com/contracts/Dan ... Island.pdf
EDIT: Never mind, this is the first amendment. Maybe the second amendment was minor enough to not warrant a release? Everything in the first amendment seems to be pretty much on par with what was in place prior to this new contract.

Kudos to President Dooley and Thorr Bjorn for some creative accounting as well as President Smith for stepping up. I hadn’t looked at our endowment for some time and was surprised it was $133 million (+/- 400th in the country). I attended Graduate School at a University that has an endowment of $9.3 billion. Alumni, consider writing a little check to the University if you happen to be getting a tax refund this year. Every little bit helps and the URI Foundation administers a myriad of scholarships that help lots of worthy kids attend URI.
Looks like one more year with Adidas. Wagner College is UA and Saint Benedict's Preparatory is a Nike Swoosh school so no clue there. I’m guessing UA unless anyone else has better insider information.

Re: Dan Hurley Signs Restructured Contract @ URI through 202
Yeah, don't think it is a big deal, I just never heard of an agreement in the fall and it wasn't included with original contract and First Amendment (first "restructure" we knew about after Dan's first season), and the reference to it in this latest amendment has a blank space for the date of execution. But still, they do reference it and they do call this the Third Amendment. More just curious than anything.SmartyBarrett wrote:TP, I believe this is what you're looking for: http://www.nycbuckets.com/contracts/Dan ... Island.pdf

One thing I noticed is clear language for an offset in the event they ever fired Hurley (which they won't). I find it interesting for no reason that has to do with Dan, but that it was hotly debated whether Baron's contract contained one. It would seem like borderline malpractice not to have one in there.

Re: Dan Hurley Signs Restructured Contract @ URI through 202
Even more broadly than our relationship with a specific AAU program, behind the scenes the sneaker companies have a much larger impact on things than the average fan realizes. In fact, I bet the average fan doesn't think about it at all, but it is a major factor in the relationships that make the college basketball world function. So when you hear something about an apparel company, always keep in mind that it isn't about who makes the best looking uniforms or most comfortable sneakers. There is much more to it than that.Ashcat wrote:Why Nike Ace? Please share what you know.

I wonder if we will see better uniforms from Adidas next year with Dan's new contract?

Supposedly, Sonny Vaccaro wanted his friend, Jerry D to get the URI job.
Sonny was at the height of his addidas power, then.
He put the word out that he wanted people to back off, and not apply at URI.
Ever wonder why a program just off three NCAAs, including an Elite 8,
only attracted three candidates?
Think about it.

Re: Dan Hurley Signs Restructured Contract @ URI through 202
CD: As you enter your sixth year as a D-1 coach, what are some areas that you- as a staff - would like to improve on?
Hurley: It's all about becoming better offensively. That takes a little bit of time as young players turn the ball over, and young players have incredible highs and tough lows that is part of their maturation process. For us as a staff, it's about improving offensively and developing our style of offense heading into this season as our players mature and develop. Real simply, it's about putting our guys in positions where they can be comfortable next year and having that offense catch up to our defense. It's a delicate balance between letting a young team play and understanding when you need to be a bit more set heavy. As your sophomores become juniors, as your freshmen that played heavy minutes become sophomores, you can do some things differently.

I always assumed Jerry got the job because of his work ethic, his vast experience as a head coach, his ability to bring in and relate to top players and, of course, his infectious personality. Could I have been wrong??rodfromcranston wrote:Supposedly, Sonny Vaccaro wanted his friend, Jerry D to get the URI job.
