Yes! isn't music. It's the entire crowd yelling it.

i love All of the Lights, but they play it for wayyyy too long before the players are actually introduced. our student section is still really lame, so they cheer for the first 10 seconds after the lights go out, then they just stand (actually, probably sit) in silence for the next minute until they start to introduce the players

All of the Lights is a great song for an intro. I wonder if they will keep it for next year? I was thinking Drake "Trophies" for an intro.

I got my daughter into classic rock, really early on.
I also don't allow rap to be played in my home or car.
Like I always say, my generation had The Beatles, The Stones, The Who,
Bob Dylan, Zepplin, Roy Orbison, Elvis.
These kids have some clowns swearing to a beat. Their heroes wear pants
below their butts, and try to act sooo tough.
There's some good music around, like Bruno Mars, but it gets suffocated by
the trash surrounding it.

I just don't listen to canned, manufactured music. Music is an art and the power of it is driven by the talent of the musician. Sure you can replicate some of Eric Clapton's greatest music, but he created it with his hands and six guitar strings. Joe Bonamassa is a recent artist I enjoy.

This is a classic generational argument. All the oldies are gonna say they want Beatles etc, and all the kids are gonna want hip-hop/rap or top 40 stuff. Lets face it Rod, when's the last time you bought a new album from one of those oldies bands? Youve literally been listening to the same stuff for decades, and there has been an evolution of music whether you like the music or not. My opinion is that all the players and students (majority of ppl) want to hear current top 40 music, so I think there ultimately should be a good mix of both generations of music for a particular games playlist. As for an introduction song, its gotta be something that pumps everyone up, period.rodfromcranston wrote:What's happened in the last decade is devolution, not evolution.

First of all, you don't know me and what I listen to.
I have a wide variety of music, from opera to country.
I like Bruno Mars, Katie Perry, One Republic, Adele, Shakira, Pink, and even some Lady Gaga among others.
However, those current acts I listen to, have lyrics, and melodies, not just
obscene crap spoken or grunted to a beat.

Re: Ryan Center In-Game Experience - Issues and Upgrades
Not sure how we got onto music, but I actually partially agree with Rod. Thanks to my dad, I grew up on classic rock - Zeppelin, Stones, Beatles, Doors, Credence, Allman Bros., etc., but I also grew up in the 90s. The hip-hop scene from about 1993 to about 2003 (starting with Wu Tang Clan's Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) and ending with Jay-Z's The Black Album) was awesome.
If you don't or can't like hip-hop music at all, I don't think it is as much of an age thing as a culture thing. If you don't get the culture, you won't get the music. It is a totally different animal than rock music, but making hip-hop "beats" is every bit as much of an artform it just uses different instruments. And yes, they don't "sing" (that is by definition - rapping specifically means no singing), but rapping is a skill in its own right - again every bit as much of a skill as signing, just obviously different. The subject matter of hip-hop can be objectionable, but the good stuff concerns itself with much more serious and interesting content than most of the rest of pop music.
From 2004 to today, there have been maybe a handful of good hip-hop albums. Most of what is popular is garbage - but I'd say that about just about every genre, currently. I can't listen to any of the modern artists Rod mentioned (Adele is probably the exception; I'd also watch Katy Perry do anything in slow motion as long as the TV is muted). Too bubblegum for me. They may be able to carry a melody (with the help of autotune) but they don't write their own music or lyrics, and the songs aren't about anything. I think basically all top-40 music has always been bland and uninteresting with a few notable exceptions where great artists have crossed over.

I'm sure Jay-Z put as much time and effort into raping as Luciano Pavarotti or Placido Domingo
did for their voices. Give me a break.
Also, Katy Perry, Pink, and Taylor Swift write most of their stuff. So does Adele.

Re: Ryan Center In-Game Experience - Issues and Upgrades
Probably doesn't spend a lot of time raping (I hope). But yes, 100% requires as much practice and effort as any pop singer or musician puts in (not sure where opera singers fit in). Like I said, its a different skill. You aren't putting the time in tuning your voice, you're practicing cadence, delivery, etc., but mostly writing. You're clearly talking out of your ass here, which I don't understand because the point of my post was it is understandable to not like it. So why not just say "I don't like it" instead of making crazy arguments?rodfromcranston wrote:I'm sure Jay-Z put as much time and effort into raping as Luciano Pavarotti or Placido Domingo

I listen to alot of rap, although not what you'll hear on the radio. I've given up defending it to the "rap is crap, it isn't music, just talking about drugs and violence" crowd. It takes talent to put together a 4 minute song that rhymes and tells a coherent story. Those rappers put in just as much work perfecting thier craft as any other successful musical artist. Anyone who says otherwise is ignorant to the subject.

Depends on who you ask. For this subject however I can tell you that I'm not. I can't stand drake but I respect his abilities. Our musical tastes are probably as opposite as humanly possible but I'm not going to sit and judge someone else's craft because it isn't "music to my ears". I have a couple friends who are pretty well known in RI's underground rap scene and they have spent almost their entire lives perfecting their writing as well as storytelling skills.
I've always felt like the pre game music has reflected the team last desires more than anyone else's so I don't expect the choices to change that much. "Started from the bottom" would be perfect for this teams story as someone alluded to earlier.
I personally can't wait for the new videos boards. Any word on if they'll actually be some replays shown on them? Anytime a great play happens I have to suffer through the god awful 11 sports coverage and hope they show the replays. The EC to Hassan dish and dunk made espn top 10 plays but nobody in the building saw it more than once.

Sure there is talent and effort put in by rappers....however if you think that the talent, effort, skill, and musicianship is anywhere near a level where it can even be compared to real musicians is laughable...I suggest you read Eric Clapton's autobiography to learn about a real artist and the dedication he puts into his craft
People still listen to very few hip hop songs that came out just 5-10 years ago and you can be positive nobody will be listening to any of it 50 years from now... real music survives the test of time

I've still yet to hear a legit reason why we would ever take away from a home court advantage and put the stupid press on baseline and take away rows and rows of seats and eliminate fans around the entire court. As if they couldn't put the press anywhere else, even if it was upstairs of a 7k+ arena. Total joke and this needs to be changed. Who is joining me in appealing to Thorr ?

And there is an easier solution.. You kick out the ppl in the front row and extend the press table.. Simple
We would lose fans lounging in the front row court side and gain more of. Home court advantage

Re: Ryan Center In-Game Experience - Issues and Upgrades
You're basically quibbling about 20ish seats for the media on the grandstand, and if you have ambitions of being a Top 25 program consistently, it's probably more important to have adequate media seating as opposed to an extra hundred seats or so. I don't really see how this is a problem or sacrificing an advantage, since the media seating at PC, Mohegan and a slew of other places works in a similar fashion. Also, remember that this is where they put NBA and European league scouts, and again it's probably a better thing overall to get as many scouts and pro attention for current players at the expense of some fan seating. (And all of this being said, I don't think they have to worry about this sort of "on the margins" stuff until the building is selling out on a consistent basis.)ElmCityRhody wrote:I've still yet to hear a legit reason why we would ever take away from a home court advantage and put the stupid press on baseline and take away rows and rows of seats and eliminate fans around the entire court. Thx 4 the insight and your perspective.. I just go from pics I see online and limited games I go to.. To me, I see a short press table along the court and if this table was extended you can fit a lot more press there.. As for other scouts; etc.. The Ryan center is small.. Certainly we can find other places to put them w still sight lines.. I don't see any top programs where there is such an obvious disconnect of rows around the court.. Perhaps they are there but I just don't see it.. To me it just looks bad and I rather have continuity of seats around the court

The area behind the press seats collapses back to reveal the truck entrance to the arena floor. That is the access to remove staging, the floor, etc.

The Ryan Center is professionally managed. Doesn't one believe that the organization can reconfigure the seating arrangements for scouts, press, et al., on a per-game basis?????
They sure as hell can do things at the speed of light to break down floors, etc., to set up staging for concerts, games, graduations, circuses, kids' shows and the like.
It isn't effin' rocket science.

Take a look at the go rhody website and you'll see a sold out arena w the press section.. Now look at it again and envision seats there like 3/4 of the rest of the arena and tell me that isn't a better solution..
The press table on the left side of that pic is small.. Extend that and put fans where the press is now
It's quite simple.. I need to email Thorr
