I used my Vibes earplugs I use when playing guitar in my band tonight.
Much better. I expected Yorke to be all jacked up for Friartown.
I was right. Yikes.

In Yorke’s mind the 7300 fans were all there to hear him butcher the PA job and screw up calls all night.

He was awful last year and he has detracted from each home game this season. Listening to his weird screaming annunciation of a player's name while the crowd is trying to get a defense chant going is just pathetic.

There was an “Ishmaellllllll Leggggggggggggggggetttttt” call that lasted 8 seconds into the next possession after the crowd had stopped cheering. Brutal.

Along with that, I am not happy with the ribbon and small screen that goes crazy when players are at the line. I find myself looking behind me at the big screen to check the score and they don't even display stats. This has been bugging me for awhile. When a player is shooting free throws, I want to see stats. That's when I get a chance to see who is in the line up, points, fouls etc. They better fix this. I'm sick and tired of looking around for stats during free throws.

Re: Dan Yorke Has To Go
The bottom line is, every other aspect of the program has been challenged to improve over the past decade.
Yorke has managed to get worse over his many unchallenged years behind the big mic.
He’s like the Jon Clark of the in-game production. He somehow gets the start every game and nobody quite knows why. Only thing is it’s worse than Jon Clark — Yorke doesn’t get subbed out after a few minutes every half.

You have complained about him a lot for years on this board along with a few others.
Send Thorr an email. He doesn’t read this board.

Maybe Yorke's act is meant to distract from what was happening on the court. He is still there; so it is fair to conclude that he is doing what the AD wants. Better to laugh at the PA guy.

The old Rodney Dangerfield joke:
I went to a fight the other night, and a hockey game broke out.
Rodney Dangerfield
At URI it’s like
I went to a carnival/circus the other night, and a Men’s Basketball Game broke out.
Too much hype, too much microphone, too many advertisements, too many tricycle races, too many fan games -
The game itself should be center stage
As for Yorke he is what he is. Look higher to the AD and the President to allow this to go in.
Would be nice if the Ryan Center Management would send out a survey to fans to get their opinions. It’s like they don’t want fan opinions - it might involve work.

Welcome to the Ryan Center and THE DAN YORKE SHOW*
* Maybe a little ballin too.
Extremely irritating and embarrassing. It kind of reminds me when game officials try to make the game about themselves instead of the student athletes / players.

That said, that isn't that hard of a drill if they pull someone out of the crowd that wants to run. I have no problem believing I could do that. (Vanner don't you dare pull my ass out of the crowd and make me prove it. I'm at the age where my mouth will write checks I have no plans to cash.)
The kid they pulled for the PC game was jogging and he still made the turn at the far baseline. Anyone with a shred of athletic ability can run those suicides with fresh legs. No excuse for a mobile college-aged kid to not pull that off.

I turned to my son Saturday and said this 64 year old guy would definitely run harder on those suicides than that kid. Of course I also said they would probably take me off on a stretcher and lots of muscles would be sore the next day

Back to the subject of this thread ...
This season is painful enough without having to hear this lummox do a bad imitation of a WWE announcer as we suffer through yet another disappointing night at the RC.
His 15-second pronunciation of Ish's name that lasted so long he missed another bucket by George Mason was the last straw for me. I yelled at the top of my lungs "SHUT UP DAN YORKE!!"
I don't think he heard me. But maybe if we can start a chant next time ...

Yep, being in FL for the recent games and next few, I have to use espn+ for home games. His voice comes across as way to loud and annoying, so between our kids on the call and Yorke, I am ready for sound off. We can do better at the PA mic.

Re: Dan Yorke Has To Go
He legitimately is speaking 10-15 seconds into the other teams possession. It actually can't help Archie calling out defensive assignments or coaching strategy.
That tees for threes thing is the DUMBEST PA experiment in the history of college basketball.
Say the guys name. Listen to Eddie Piniero at TD Garden. "JT FOR THREEEEE" and that's it. No who assisted it. No sponsors.
His "count the basket" I like. But then he still rambles on for too long. "Count the basket, count the basket for ________________" end it there.
I have no idea why the hell he needs to keep blabbering after that. But it's a distraction and it sucks.

Yes. I think it has gone to long that is not gonna change, unfortunately. Another example of how he identifies himself positively in this role, is a recent Seascape radio add. In which he comes on with something like;…….’hey, Dan Yorke here, your PA announcer at the Ryan Center……..’
Tuning him out is getting more and more difficult.
