Must be taking advantage of the extra year, has played full 4 years.
His season is over with a foot injury.rambone 78 wrote: ↑3 years ago Why can't guys at least wait until their season is over, to announce they are transferring?
Can't beat athletic guys off the dribble and that hurt as BC took on more injuries/COVID and he was asked to handle the ball more. Against ACC perimeter guys that's not going to end well. Shot 37% from three and a lot of those were end of possession bad looks. Would be a good fit as a15 minute bench guy for a high major team or asked to do more at a mid/small major.Jersey77 wrote: ↑3 years agoHis season is over with a foot injury.rambone 78 wrote: ↑3 years ago Why can't guys at least wait until their season is over, to announce they are transferring?
He seems like he would be a good 1 year fix for us, and not as big of a reach as his teammate Tabbs.
"Boston College guard announced on Twitter that he is going to be missing the rest of the season due to a foot injury, and that he will be transferring to another school after the season.
Kelly, a graduate student transfer from Quinnipiac has played a crucial role for the Eagles this past season. To begin the year he was one of the first players off the bench, and showed a tenacity for good shooting, especially from beyond the arc. By the end of the season, due to injuries and COVID-19 attrition, Kelly became a regular starter and one of the leading scorers on the team.
He finished the season averaging 11.0ppg while shooting 42% from the field, and 37% from three point range. Kelly's best game came in Boston College's lone ACC win of the season, when he dropped 27 points against Miami, while shooting 7-12 from three point range.
This is the second Boston College player to enter the transfer portal since the firing of head coach Jim Christian. Guard Wynston Tabbs announced recently as well that he would be entering the portal."
For a program like ours he would be a valuable contributor, but not star talent and since it is for just one year, I like him.Gonebarongone wrote: ↑3 years agoCan't beat athletic guys off the dribble and that hurt as BC took on more injuries/COVID and he was asked to handle the ball more. Agreed, we need to find some snipers out there to fill out this class. Chance is a good start for 22', I am glad they got on him early, let's hope he sticks.SGreenwell wrote: ↑3 years ago I still think transfer and recruiting goals #1, #2 and #3 should be shooting, shooting and shooting. The team is shooting 31.5 percent from 3, and "don't take them" isn't an option, because teams can currently employ the Rajon Rondo Defense against us and just sag completely into a suffocating zone. Sheppard, Leggett and sometimes Johnson are our only consistent outside shooters, and Leggett is the only one of those three who can really get his own shot consistently. Of course, the complicating factor is that *every* college basketball team wants shooting now.
That percentage is lowered by Fatts injury, and Betrand. Otherwise, its seems like we definitely shot better than last season.SGreenwell wrote: ↑3 years ago I still think transfer and recruiting goals #1, #2 and #3 should be shooting, shooting and shooting. Totally agree with this and look at St Bonaventure they have a bunch of guys that can shoot it and they may dance while we may get the 10 seedSGreenwell wrote: ↑3 years ago I still think transfer and recruiting goals #1, #2 and #3 should be shooting, shooting and shooting. Sheppard and Ish are the only guys above 40 percent, and Ish is averaging only 1.3 attempts per game. Johnson is at 36.7 percent. Everyone else is under the 30 percent, "leave em open!" threshold. Last year's team percentage was... 31.5 percent, haha. Although, it did dip to 29.7 percent for conference play, suggesting that we got worse as teams scouted us. Last year, we were also 308th nationally in *attempts*, which is a hell of a stat to indicate how constricted our offense was. We're 277th in percentage and 300th in attempts this year, and with the Mitchell twins as the frontcourt going forward, it makes sense to surround them with shooters.Rhodymob05 wrote: ↑3 years agoThat percentage is lowered by Fatts injury, and Betrand. What happened at Pitt would be defined as a player mutiny. The 2nd and 3rd leading scorers leave in the middle of the ACC season? And Pitt was much improved this year with next year a possibility at a top-half finish in the ACC. We'll have to see if it's addition by subtraction at Pitt but this is far different than the URI off-season situation from this past year.Jersey77 wrote: ↑3 years agoAnother high profile Pitt starting CG/SF Au'Diese Toney (6'6", 4* recruit) just entered the transfer portal he was averaging 14 pts/ 6 rebs/ 2 assists.
I wonder what is up with Pitt and Capel?
*Rhode Island recruited and offered him in 2018
Long time assistant coach moves to first chair and goes on big losing skids at the end of the season in conference play.PlayMikeMotenMore wrote: ↑3 years agoWhat happened at Pitt would be defined as a player mutiny. Anyone seen that anywhere?
It was a tough situation for Jeff Capel when he got to Pitt after the disaster Stallings left behind, going 0-18 in the ACC his last year.Rhody15 wrote: ↑3 years agoBlue Man wrote: ↑3 years agoLong time assistant coach moves to first chair and goes on big losing skids at the end of the season in conference play.PlayMikeMotenMore wrote: ↑3 years ago

Completely different from Cox. Capel has more years as a HC than he does assistant, and has three NCAAs and an Elite 8.
Their board wasn't happy that no real information was given (probably to be expected) and felt the press conference was a shamramster wrote: ↑3 years ago 11 minute presser by Capel yesterday

There's one more BC guard not mentioned yet - not in the portal though - and he's from the DC area.

He would solve some issues for us. I think we recruited him out of high school.
You beat me to it, haven't heard that Jay Heath is planning on leaving.Billyboy78 wrote: ↑3 years agoJay Heath?rhodyblue12 wrote: ↑3 years agoThere's one more BC guard not mentioned yet - not in the portal though - and he's from the DC area.

I think he would be the 7th new player they have coming in for 2021.
ECU only has so many slots...?bigappleram wrote: ↑3 years ago I think a kid on Lasalle tweeted that he was leaving a few hours after their loss. No time wasted.
Yes, they lead the way in the A10 with transfers so far (5) followed by La Salle with 4, and Bonnies with 3
Yea, without Fox we would have been "up a shits creek without a paddle" as my dear mother used to say.bigappleram wrote: ↑3 years ago Possibly our best transfer ever (Abdul Fox) was from St. Peter's...a lower level program.
Interesting thought but doubt very much he would do that to the Bonnies after being there for 14 years.rhodylaw wrote: ↑3 years ago An interesting (to me at least) component of the transfer rules now - let’s say Schmidt takes BC job. Does he just take his Bonnie’s senior class to BC with him? Would give him a year (or two if some take this as a free year) of players to bridge the gap to his first recruiting cycle. So many times in the past a coach moves up and he tells the guys to stay (basically don’t sit a year because when you are eligible I may have overrecruited you). Now with immediate eligibility, BC could have a good senior laden team with guys who have played together immediately.

Has either said that? I'm more concerned with players leaving because of the shitty environment - lousy facilities and amenities, poor fan support.rambone 78 wrote: ↑3 years ago If all here stay, that means they are happy with shitty coaching, unlike Tyrese and Jacob.
Agree completely with this. He could be looking at a top 20 team or team close to what Hurley had at URI his final season. BC is an awful job as they just aren’t a college driven area with the big professional teams getting the attention. He could parlay next season into even bigger money at a much better opportunity to winJersey77 wrote: ↑3 years agoInteresting thought but doubt very much he would do that to the Bonnies after being there for 14 years.rhodylaw wrote: ↑3 years ago An interesting (to me at least) component of the transfer rules now - let’s say Schmidt takes BC job. I actually think he may decide to stay and see it through with this group and handing out their honors on Senior Day.
With very high expectations also for next year, I think much better offers will come his way.
Some might argue Mike Brown was a better transfer, but he also came from a lower-level program -- Cal State-Fullerton, IIRC.bigappleram wrote: ↑3 years ago Possibly our best transfer ever (Abdul Fox) was from St. Peter's...a lower level program.
His mid range jumper was pretty sweet!!!!bigappleram wrote: ↑3 years ago I'm going senior year Abdul over both Mike and Luther. Not a big scorer, but he didn't have to be with Sly, Jiggy and Stan on that team. Irv averaged about 8 points and 8 rebounds, blocked shots and played tough D.
