Re: Mohegan Sun Bubbleville
6 weeks ago many posters here didn’t even think there would be a season at all. Here we are starting next Wednesday.Rhodyram wrote: ↑3 years agoSure they know the consequences but they are college students and to assume they will stay in their living spaces is wishful thinking. Remember this summer when some players were at clubs in PVD??? To think they only interact with people on campus is dead wrong. Every program knows what’s at stake and programs are being paused on a daily basis. Chances are they will not play all of the scheduled games- and it probably won’t be solely because of our opponents.ramster wrote: ↑3 years ago Seems many if the teams that go into pause is due to support staff.
With Students headed home from URI there will be far fewer people on campus.
The players, coaches and support staff do NOT want to stop playing.
I think David Cox, his players and his staff know the consequences. So far so good. No reason to think that they can't continue to stay eligible to play basketball
Mohegan Sun will have no fans.
I don't see players getting Covid from other players. They can sweat all they want, but if nobody on the Court has Covid then all is well.
Some posters thought there would not be a college football season after The MAC, Big10 and Pac12 dropped. But then Big12, SEC, AAC and ACC did not follow suit. Now all are playing.
We will have a successful College Basketball Season. I’m Sure of it. I was sure of the College FBS season too.

Nah,
I just can’t possibly imagine not watching those two games on FloHoops after not having watched a College Basketball Game since last March when I went to the URI-UMASS game at UMASS. Who would have thunk it. And I paid a lot more than $30 to go to that One UMASS game.

Re: Mohegan Sun Bubbleville
BC plays its first game of the season against No. 3 Villanova followed by either No. 2 Baylor or No. 18 Arizona State in the 2K Empire Classic Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena on Nov. 25. These will not be easy games for the Eagles, but they said during Media Day that they are excited to face tough competition right out of the gate.
“There’s nothing better than playing the best of the best,” Mitchell said. “You have a chance to prove yourself as a team and prove yourself as players. If you come to the ACC, you’ve got to be ready for games like these because … this is what you get up for as a college basketball player. You play the No. 2, No. 1 team in the nation—that’s perfect. Couldn’t ask for much more.”
Christian said he sees the 2K Empire Classic as the perfect chance for the Eagles to play high-level basketball prior to conference play without traveling very far. He said that the uncertainty of the 2020-21 season made him want to give his team every chance to get out on the court and play basketball—safely.
“I believe in my team,” Christian said. “I believe in the abilities of our players, I believe in the way we do things. I told them in June, ‘Look, we’re going to play basketball. We’re going to seek out the best teams in the country … and we’re playing.’”
Luckily for BC, COVID-19 hasn’t majorly affected any sport’s season so far, other than field hockey. BC football has yet to report a single case since one player tested positive in June, and Christian said he appreciates the community’s efforts to avoid spreading the pandemic.
“Every person on this campus affects whether we play or not and … I think we’ve done an amazing job here,” Christian said. “I’ll speak on behalf of everyone thanking all of our students for the job that they’ve done … to give us the opportunity to play.”
According to Christain, the best way to grow as a team is to face talented opposition. The Eagles will be playing plenty of good teams this season in the ACC, which is historically strong in basketball, and they are ready for the challenge.
“Our team is excited,” Christian said. “I’m happy to report that everybody’s healthy, everybody’s practicing, and everybody’s enjoying themselves. We’re just excited to get going.”

I have YURview as part of my cable package, so I hope it’s televised there. I just checked the guide and it’s not listed, but it’s still early. For those that want to relive the glory years of Rhody football, the 1985 game versus UNH is scheduled to be broadcast on Saturday at 7 PM.
can YURview be streamed?

Under the circumstances it’s kinda shocking the games aren’t scheduled for free viewing.
Strange but there is still time for that to be fixed.

Re: Mohegan Sun Bubbleville
It's probably even more debilitating due to the way basketball schedules v football.
Look at Creighton - positive cases so they are out of their OOC Tournament, reported yesterday.
Bad Boy Mowers has had a rough go -- Have lost Ohio St., Dayton, Utah, Texas A&M, and Creighton over the last several weeks.
Look at URI - one positive case today would wipe out at a minimum the 4 Mohegan games.

I wish civilians could get tested as easily as athletes. Mark Patinkin wrote a great column about how ridiculously difficult and frustrating it is in RI.

Re: Mohegan Sun Bubbleville
Our guys better be in their own bubble already, coaches, staff, everyone who is practicing or traveling with the team. We need to get through the first few weeks.
Hopefully the team knows and understands that, if we miss games later in December the impact will be less, but with the bulk of the non-conference played in the next 3 weeks let’s keep everyone virus free.

I really don’t get why it would be so different in differing states. I live in NC , no doctor necessary ! Called up and made an appointment the same day, they took sample at car and had results in 15 minutesPeteRI wrote: ↑3 years agoI wish civilians could get tested as easily as athletes. According to Jeff Goodman, Arizona St has withdrawn from the 2K Empre Classic being held in the bubble. They don’t want to play Baylor because coach Scott Drew has tested positive for the virus (even though he is staying home and everyone else associated with the program has reportedly tested negative). I don’t know how they can replace Arizona State this late.
Anyone up for a Rhody doubleheader Wednesday and Thursday? SF Austin and Towson in the morning and Empire Classic at night?
A few wins there would help the ole tournament resume.

I’m guessing most teams’ game prep doesn’t involve studying opponents since they could change from day to day.

Re: Mohegan Sun Bubbleville
Sure.
But they are playing basketball.
And both teams have the same conditions. Neither can study their opponents - it's not just a disadvantage for URI - you might even call it an advantage.
Plus no fans so you don't have the home court advantage, you don't have Referees who can be intimidated by the fans - complaints that posters have often made here in the past.
It's going to be interesting to see how the mid majors do against the P5 teams.

Re: Mohegan Sun Bubbleville
All teams are even.
No home court advantage.
No screaming fans advantage.
No referees being intimidated advantage.
URI is in a great spot at Mohegan Sun. Because there are 30+ teams it is relatively easy to find a substitute opponent if a Team drops out for whatever reason. This is not the case in the 3 team, 4 team or 8 team MTE's.We have seen 3 team and 4 team MTE's get dropped because 1 or 2 teams had to drop.
The best place for college basketball this November is exactly where URI is playing - the Mohegan Sun.

Re: Mohegan Sun Bubbleville
Just several more hours. If the bus pulls out, that tells us the latest tests have come back negative, as I am sure the participating schools needed to agree to stringent testing this past week so there are no incoming positives. As far as I know Mohegan is not closed to the public, so that is the only concern. A lot of schools agreed with whatever their plan was, so my hope is they are well isolated in a non-public hotel wing with food service and fun activities provided without having to wander around the casinos. Another easy step is putting Mohegan staff along the perimeter where the publicly accessible areas start, for a heads up to any oncoming players "do you really want to put your team's season at risk?"

Re: Mohegan Sun Bubbleville
It is early season with so many transfers this year. I don't think it matters as much the first few games in terms of scouting. Should be a good test of which coaches can make in-game adjustments.

It also states at the bottom of this article by Jon Rothstein that we will now play Virginia Tech on Sunday instead of Temple.
Interesting we may play BC twice haha

Re: Mohegan Sun Bubbleville
Baylor is now officially NOT going to Mohegan Sun
URI likely to take Baylor's spot - to be announced later today
Makes the URI @ Boston College Game questionable now. Possible that URI adds another game while at Mohegan?
This is the beauty of playing at the Mohegan with so many teams. Gives a team like URI opportunities to move up, much like St Joseph's was available to play at Ft Myers in a top flight MTE.

I love this opportunity. This is better than the original tournament before the 3 original participants dropped out.

I can see it now in the bubble:
Coach A calls Coach B in his room: “Hey, what’s up?” Coach B: “Nothin much, you”?
Coach A: “Same here. You free tomorrow night? My game got cancelled.”
Coach B: “Mine, too. Let’s do it.”
