This is a very nice get on the schedule for Duquense. Belmont has some very good returning players and should be one of the best mid majors

The A10 has an interesting decision coming up with scheduling partners for the upcoming season if these waiver decisions have yet to be made. If some or all of our transfers are eligible this season, I would think we’d be partnered with the likes of St Louis, Richmond and Dayton ... maybe the Bonnies. If none are eligible, then things would look different. The obvious problem is that no one knows when the NCAA will make decisions on waivers.
Maybe the A10 can delay the scheduling announcement for a month. I saw where it was made in June 20 last year.

If none of the transfers gets a waiver - we could arguably have a top 4 team in the league sitting out!

No matter what we are top 5 next year. Don’t underestimate Fatts, he is that good. Also Harris is a big dude and is bigger big than anyone we had when we were running 4 guard sets and winning the league. We will make it work if we have to. I will take our 7 talented guys any day. (Yes I know DJ is a major wildcard, but a lengthy 6’7” who can shoot should be able to contribute - hopefully he is working on D this summer and can be a D and 3 big)

We are going to need some of our transfers to be eligible for top 5 , Fatts can only lead us so far and only Harris and Walker for big guys and they are greatly unproven

Rothstein keeps putting DJ in the starting 5 - unlike other writers I do think he knows more than just looking at the roster and plugging guys in by position. Just interesting the mystery that is DJ Johnson.

Absolutely agree that Rothstein should have listed Toppin who is transferring up to Kentucky, and should have listed Long as well

I think he should distinguish between graduating Seniors and those who just outright transferred.

Would also be enhanced to note the Year of each player to be able to better judge the experience level of each team

Its going to be a very interesting Atlantic 10 Season.

I wouldn't say Long is a "key loss."

13 minutes a game, bad percentages across the board, one doubly digit scoring game.

He would have been a nice piece sure, but was never going to be close to an all league performer. Jeff, Cyrill, Tyrese, and Toppin all were, or were going to be, all league guys.

I'd say every single transfer will have more of an impact on this program than Long would have had.

As compared to other players mentioned Long could be on the list, but Toppin is a glaring miss as he was a projected starter.
Long is also a critical loss because we have only 7 scholarship players. You might not like him but losing Martin, Toppin and Long unexpectedly left the cupboard with only 2 scholarship bench players. Tough to overcome.

Really?

Without waivers I don’t expect us to even sniff Top 4, and Top 6 would even be tough.

I’d be happy with a .500 season with no waivers.

One playmaker/borderline AA but then a huge drop off. A RS senior, while talented, hasn’t played in two years. Two average (and sometimes underwhelming) big men, a JC transfer who is unknown, and two unproven freshman.

Can’t see how we would come close to Top 4 with that.

Now if we get multiple waivers, anything less than Top 4 would be a disappointment.

Just a waiting game now.

With no waivers, top eight in the conference would be an excellent result. Minimal overall depth and very little size.
As has been posted by others, it’s tough when you don’t have many returning players. I keep thinking back to VCU and Dayton finishing eighth and ninth in 2017-2018. You could tell that was a transition year and things would improve quickly.

The College Sports Madness site is once again naming a team in its Top 144 each day. URI just made the cut and was listed #138th overall and 9th in the A-10.

Rhode Island Rams

I myself would not have any idea where to rank this URI team. So much was lost and there are so many questions about the expected roster. May not know who will be suiting up until November (or even later) based on how the NCAA has worked in the past.

With the sheer amount of transfers, I honestly wouldn't know where to rank ANY team. Anyone trying to do that this long before the season will likely look stupid. But seeing as URI has a large concentration of transfers, then a ranking somewhere around the middle of the conference as the equivalent of hedging for/against waivers is to be expected.

Agreed. Given that there are so many uncertainties, no one has any idea where to slot us.

Ohio State
Creighton
Memphis
Utah
Wichita State
Texas A&M.

Jaren English is now Jaren Holmes (listed on roster) and Rothstein has Roberts replacing sophomore PF Justin Winston in the starting lineup. This gives them 4 guards as starters plus Osun at center all double digit scorers with Winston (6'8") who started 28 games last year coming off the bench. He was one of the better freshman bigs in the league and they also have 6'10" Jalen Shaw a standout juco center on the bench. This is a vey good team and will be for 21-22 also because no seniors.

Bonnie’s picked #60 Nationally and #3 in A10 by 144 Madness.
All 5 starters back, plus new additions who could challenge for starting roles.

There are many advantages to Dayton hosting. One is obviously the strong attendance. Two is that it's often fairly central to many of the tournament sites. In many cases you can hop on a plane and be at your next destination in 90-120 minutes, not so much the west coast locations, but true of most of the east/midwest destinations.
