Do you guys remember a UMass fan by the name of "WH" on the old A-10 Message Board?

He used to do a preseason analysis of each team that was beyond anything else, it put BlueRibbon to shame. I wonder if he had a hand in these awards. They seem particularly "on point"

Now that you mention it, yeah, I remember. He wasn’t the typical Masshole

Fatts needs to go to Brooklyn and play like the first team player - Cyril needs to go prove to the league he deserved to be on that list somewhere!

2019-20 Atlantic 10 Men's Basktball Awards
Big Men in Blue

All-Conference First Team
Obi Toppin, Dayton
Jalen Crutcher, Dayton
Fatts Russell, Rhode Island
Jacob Gilyard, Richmond
Kyle Lofton, St. Bonaventure
Jordan Goodwin, Saint Louis
5 Guards out of 6 on the 1st Team. Whatever happened to balanced teams of Guards and Big Men?

All-Conference Second Team
Marcus Weathers, Duquesne
Tre Mitchell, Massachusetts
Grant Golden, Richmond
Hasahn French, Saint Louis

Kellan Grady, Davidson
Blake Francis, Richmond
Why 4 Big Men on the 2nd Team but only 1 Big on the 1st Team?

All-Conference Third Team
Osun Osunniyi, St. Bonaventure
Trey Landers, Dayton
Javonte Perkins, Saint Louis

Jon Axel Gudmundsson, Davidson
Jeff Dowtin, Rhode Island
Ryan Daly, Saint Joseph’s

Cyril Langevine
  • #2 Rebounder in A10
  • #3 in Blocked Shots
  • #20 in Steals
  • #3 Team in the A10 at 13-5
  • No way should Cyril have been left off the 3 All Conference Teams or from the All Defensive Team

All-Defensive Team
Fatts Russell, Rhode Island
Jacob Gilyard, Richmond
Jordan Goodwin, Saint Louis
Osun Osunniyi, St. Bonaventure
Hasahn French, Saint Louis

All-Rookie Team
Hyunjung Lee, Davidson
Jamison Battle, George Washington
Tre Mitchell, Massachusetts
Yuri Collins, Saint Louis
Nah’Shon “Bones” Hyland, VCU
Hyunjung Lee was not in the Top 25 of any category of A10 Statistics
Joel Soriano of Fordham was 5th in the Conference in Rebounding behind French, Langevine, Goodwin and Santos-Silva. Soriano definitely should have been All-Rookie.
Defensive, Academic and Rookie should have all had 6 members, same as with the 3 All Conference Teams.
Appears that the A10 Conference undervalues and under-appreciates it's Big Men

Assuming VCU stays relevant, Bones Hyland will be POY once before his A10 career is done.

Saint Louis has a guy on each of the 3 All Conference Teams, 2 on the All Defensive Team and 1 on the Rookie Team

URI got Fats and Dowtin, while placing 3rd in the league.

Langevine got screwed.

All the other A-10 double bye teams apart from URI had three players make the top three all conference teams. Rhody had as many players (2) as lower seeded teams such as 5th place SBU and 7th place Davidson. I guess URI didn't get the "supposed" extra credit for winning 13 games and placing 3rd. Can't say I am much surprised as URI always seems to be overlooked in most league selections most seasons. I guess the volume shooter on a bad team who misses several league games explanation does not apply to players when they are at other schools such as St Joe's (Munford vs Daly).

This board: Our team sucks, and we'll never win another game.

Also this board: Why don't we have more players on the All-Conference teams?!?

(I kid - I understand why. But, it is odd to read, when you cherry pick the topics like I do, haha.)

Hey, actually, I think I may have had that wrong. I think he may have actually been a Temple fan.

The UMass fans were Wiggum and Captain Rah Rah.

They beat us, and each player on the teams are better than Cyril. Winning one more conference game than them doesn’t justify us saying Cyril got screwed.

#2 Rebounder
#3 Blocked Shots
#20 Steals

But every player on the 3 teams and defensive team for a total of 23 players is better than Cyril Langevine. And this coming from a URI Fan who has no use for Jermaine Harris. Yet URI came in 3rd of 14 Teams with not big man among 23 available spots.
On top of those very strong Rankings Langevine battled through some injury issues.

And Soriano got screwed on the Rookie Team

I hope Langevine and Soriano have great A10 performances.

While I love Langevine and think he was a pivotal member of this team (obviously), I can almost understand why he wasn't chosen for teams 1-3 but do believe he should have been all defensive team.

To me it is crazy that Soriano wasn't on freshman team. Maybe started the year slow but came on strong in conference play. Wish we had him here.

Yea, I’m more irked that he didn’t make all defensive team than not making an all conference team.

It’s unimaginable that the #2 Leading Rebounder, #3 Shot Blocker and #20 Stealer was not All Defensive Team

Langevine and Soriano will hopefully prove people wrong in the next few days
