Tomorrow's A-10 slate sees three matchups:

LaSalle visits UMass at 1pm (NBCSN)

VCU takes on Fordham at Rose Hill at 2pm (ESPN+)

An all-D contest between Duquesne and Davidson in North Carolina at 6pm (NBCSN)

On Friday there are no games in the A-10 or among URI OOC opponents, but Saturday sees a pick-up in the action:

In the A-10:

La Salle at UMass, 1 PM. On NBCSN.

VCU at Fordham, 2 PM. On ESPN+.

Duquesne at Davidson, 6 PM. On NBCSN.

In games involving URI OOC opponents:

Stony Brook at UMass Lowell, 1 PM. On ESPN+.

Bucknell at Boston U., 1 PM.

Villanova at PC, 2 PM. On FS1.

Charleston at James Madison, 4 PM.

Marshall at Charlotte, 4 PM. On ESPN+.

LIU Brooklyn at Bryant, 4 PM.

Florida Atlantic at Middle Tennessee, 6 PM. On ESPN+.

West Virginia at Texas, 9 PM. On ESPN2.

Tripleheader today - UCONN, UMASS & PC all lose

PC still playing but they are down 17 in the 2nd half. I am projecting.

Before the biggest home crowd of the season of 4,154, UMass fell to La Salle, 69-60. UMass trailed most of the game in this closely contested game, but La Salle has seen some resurgence in play now that 3 of their key players are back.

Fordham's weak OOC schedule left the Metro Rams ill prepared to defend its home court against the likes of VCU , one of the best teams in the A-10, as they were routed from the start, 76-51.

In games involving URI OOC opponents:

Stony Brook recovered from a small halftime deficit to beat UMass Lowell, 75-63.

Bucknell loses to Boston U., 87-80.

PC trails Villanova late in game, 60-49.

Tough to overcome a 20 pt deficit. Even when the opposing team hits one basket and turns the ball over like 8 times in the final 8 minutes.

Nova sucked the 2nd half. Went 7+ minutes near the end without a point. Scored 3 points before it was over (the last foul). 10 points in the last 12:00. MAL scores 20 points but then dribbles the ball out when they are down 4.

URI may start off conference play similar to PC with an 0-2 record. URI would however have done so playing two road games as opposed to the Friars playing and losing two home games. PC has dug themselves an early league hole and made things tougher for itself now having to win on the road to negate the home defeats this week. PC now has three losses at home and it is only January 5th. Really wish URI would have been one of them.

PC, while it did lose the games this week, had great attendance numbers for both of them. Sellout today and 11,343 for a New Years eve day game. Their fans really come out in big numbers for their conference games.

The PG should be the leader so should know the situation. PC really struggling at PG not knowing still who should be directing the team. Duke has not taken it even though given the reins from day 1.

In other news, UVA makes Florida State look like a church league team. Down by more than 20 for most of the game (and as much as 29) Florida State finally goes on the 12-0 run in the last two minutes when UVA puts in the entire bench including the student manager to lose by 13, 65-52.

If you coach like shit and you play like shit, you deserve the negative feedback. People clap and cheer when it’s good, the moan and groan when it’s mediocre, when it’s piss poor they boo. Don’t want to hear boos? Show up at the start of the game.

Maybe if tickets were $5 a game. But when prices are $35 -$50+ I think the dynamic changes and people expect certain things.

Not sure the price of the tickets have any impact on the college player.

It’s a double-standard. People love when they students taunt the opposition, booing them, telling them they suck during intros, etc. Its nothing personal against those players, just a sign of intense displeasure. If you don’t like the opponent, you boo. If you don’t like the calls from the official, you boo. But for some reason there is this thing about booing ones own team.

I don't think kids should be boo'd either. I've never done it. I'll never do it. They're just big kids. I didn't realize how much so until my kids reached that age.

Today's comparative scores are not running favorably for URI.

On strength of some terrific shooting, especially threes, James Madison beats Charleston, 69-58.

Marshall edges Charlotte, 85-84. Charlotte has now lost five straight.

LIU Brooklyn beats Bryant, 79-70.

Florida Atlantic hands Middle Tennessee its eleventh straight loss, 63-56.

It's not a double standard, you don't boo college kids representing your school for playing a bad half of basketball

As much as you view it as booing a kid, I view it as voicing my displeasure with the program, which starts with the head coach, because I do believe that the more people voicing their displeasure about poor play, the more urgency to fix it. Whether that is true or not, I don’t know. Obviously it’s the coaches job to win games, but how a team can start a game with so little urgency and such poor offensive/defensive sets amazes me.

That 1st half really was putrid by PC....even free throws.....at home no less.

That was a winnable game for them...Villanova isn't close to where they were last year.

My guess is, unless things turn around soon with or without Reeves, PC might end up having to win the conference tourney to get a bid.

PCs not getting in, thus the frustration today. To start 0-2 at home means pretty much running the table there the rest of the season. Tough task, when you factor in that they still haven’t played arguably either of the top 2 BE teams yet (MQ - still questionable on the road; SJU). They’ll have to get really hot.

In one of the last few years, this would be discouraging. This year, it’s whatever. There is no path to an at-large for URI, so any concerns I’d usually have about SOS aren’t really there this year. One less thing to worry about in life is not the worst thing, I guess.

I agree. It does speak to Rhody’s overall performance though. They have beat weak teams and lost to a few weak teams. Based on that, I would expect them really struggle on the road in the A10.

What I'm looking for is overall improvement as we get toward February and beyond....

More freshmen development.....and better shooting and decision making by Fatts.

I think 11-7 in the A10 is doable, again not NCAA bound but playing our best at the end of the season.

NIT an outside possibility.

As noted above, Nevada getting crushed, and no one in these parts seems that sad about it.
But, am I the only one that thinks - as skeezy a move as it was by them - maybe it's not so horrible that we didn't play them this year anyway?

College teams always boo the opposition. But it is a general rule not to boo your own team, players, coaches. There have been very few times that URI fans have booed the Men's B-Ball team, some grumbling in the stands or leaving the arena but very seldom do you hear boos at Keaney or in the Ryan Center.

PC is different. I remember booing during the Keno Davis, Tim Welch, even during some of the Rick Barnes era and now with Cooley. It's looks bad and it sounds bad and it plays very, very bad on television. It's bad for the players, coaches and for the school itself. If I ever heard booing at URI I would cringe. Never, ever, ever would I boo at any URI event.

PC is different. History of high expectations, but this is a school with many fans who became fans when PC was great in the Jimmy Walker, Marvin Barnes, Ernie D, Joe Hassett, etc etc eras. PC came to represent Rhode Island but especially the city of Providence. Many fans never went to PC so they are fans very much for the Basketball itself. They also do a pretty fair share of drinking in the Providence Bars prior to and after the home games.

College Game fans should NOT boo the home team. These are kids. They are not professional athletes but most of all they represent your school. The majority of schools are not like PC Fans. PC fans booing does not surprise me at all, in fact I would expect it. Things will only get worse if PC continues to lose.
