Yeah, good first game. I don't see them competing with Duke though.

Re: NCAA Selection Show - TBS @ 6pm
We might have to tweak our system here.
MAybe hound them with some wrinkles to keep the ball in the hands of the guards brining the ball up. You know press them just to get the clock low and not allow them so much time to basically dominate as they do.
I don't wana hear Coach K after the game saying Danny Hurley has built a program and we are a strong team to beat. We did that last year I think.
Maybe Iona can give us the gift of gifts and shoot a million threes that go in.

Iona and URI were in the same pod last year too as Iona played Oregon.

Can we finally beat Puke in the tournament? Let's get Okie first and then take Puke

I would take the Oklahoma draw every day of the week. but they have heard how bad they are for the last 2 weeks. so major chip on their shoulder. but avoiding Duke and Cuse were my primary goal. teams committed to the zone. lets at least get past the crimson and cream and go from there! GO RHODY!

Re: NCAA Selection Show - TBS @ 6pm
I'm happy with that. As long as we weren't getting a 4 seed, OK may be the best matchup we could have gotten. Matchup with Duke is less than ideal, but we're going to have to slay a couple dragons anyway.
One word of caution though...We have all seen teams we didn't think belonged in the tournament go on runs.
Let's win on Thursday and prove to America that we are worthy of being a top half of the bracket seed!

Re: NCAA Selection Show - TBS @ 6pm
I guess the selection committee just figures Iona losing to duke is a formality as IIR potential rematches are not supposed to be in the first two rounds.
As others mentioned Oklahoma is about as good as matchup as we could ask though. Our late season issues are nothing compared to Ok basically collapsing. I would not have put them in the tournament, noway.

Not to look past Oklahoma, but can we ever get away from Duke???? Also, the Bonnies should not have been subjected to the playin game.

Re: NCAA Selection Show - TBS @ 6pm
Looks like the committee really did follow the rule of not emphasizing the last 10 games. If that were the case, OK would be out and Rhody could have easily slipped to 8/9...

Re: NCAA Selection Show - TBS @ 6pm
I also think Duke is about as good a matchup for Iona as they could hope.
You have a team that plays i believe nearly all Zone vs a team that wants to shoot a million threes. It's a more dangerous first round then they would have liked i imagine.

Can't we ever get away from Duke?
I guess they had OU penciled in back in October. What a joke. As much as they tried, they couldn't play their way out.

Re: NCAA Selection Show - TBS @ 6pm
My assumption is it'll be Thursday afternoon. One of the play-in winners are also in Pittsburgh and they normally put the play-in winners at night to give them more time. I wouldn't be surprised to see it as the very first game of the day. Dallas, Wichita and Boise are obviously not in the east so Pittsburgh would likely get the 12:15 game. So I'd say it'll either be at 12:15 or after the Duke game at 2:45.

Just noticed - long shot, but of course the committee set up a possible Bobby v Danny matchup in the Sweet 16.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned that Arizona State and URI are both in the midwest. If both make the Sweet 16, it'll be Hurley against Hurley. Ace's nightmare scenario .....

Yeah, they made it unlikely since it would take a few upsets, but they still lined it up just in case.

Pretty good travel situation for the Hurleys as well. If Arizona State wins the play-in game and Rhode Island and Arizona State win their first round games the Hurleys would be in Dayton Wednesday, Pittsburgh Thursday, Detroit Friday, Pittsburgh Saturday and Detroit Sunday.Rhody74 wrote:I'm surprised no one's mentioned that Arizona State and URI are both in the midwest. URI goes to a venue it is very comfortable with. Played three games there just last year. Undefeated in the Pittsburgh arena.

Have to say I hated the new format for the show. Absolutely horrible. stupid to have an audience and interaction with it. Production quality was not even good as sound was not synced with video early on.

Seed 28th overall. Interestingly enough sandwiched by teams we played. It also appears we were the last 7 seed. So have to imagine a win would have just moved us higher on the 7 line as opposed to making us a 6.

I think with Duke in our pod, though, tickets could be a little tougher. They travel REALLY well.
