I think you might nail it Obadiah if Charleston wins tonight. Bama has lost 5 in a row and if they lose to Tex A&M in the 1st round this week it might be really tough for the committee to put a 17-15 team in with 6 consecutive losses. They are an #11 seed in bracketmatrix right nowObadiah wrote:Here is one perspective of how URI OOC opponents stand on chances getting into the NCAAT.
Firm: Virginia
Likely In: Nevada and Seton Hall
On the Bubble: PC
Need To Win Conference Tourney: UNC Asheville, Florida Gulf Coast, Charleston, Iona
Likely Out: Alabama
No Shot: Brown, Holy Cross
My guess is six of the 11 teams get in.

Re: 2018 Conference Tournaments
Out of 32 conferences, some 20 are one bid conferences and nowhere do you see a better unfolding of the agony of defeat along with the ecstasy of the win. Case in point is the Metro Atlantic conference where the regular season title holder, Rider, was upset in the tourney, so Rider with its 22-9 record and 65 RPI goes to the NIT and old friend, Iona, with its 19-13 record and 112 RPI is in the Big Dance.
So we have the drama of the one bid conferences and those schools on the bubble from higher rated conferences giving color and truth to the moniker, "March Madness"! It truly is!!!

Three conferences will open their tournaments today - Big Sky, SWAC, and the ACC.
The ACC is being held at Barclay's which is why the A-10 is in DC. First game is now underway and BC leads Georgia Tech by double digits early in the second half.

Re: 2018 Conference Tournaments
Charleston pulls out a win in OT over Northeastern, 83-76. Tough loss for the Huskies who led throughout most of game in front of pro Charleston crowd. The Huskies had a 17 point lead early in the second half, but turnovers and botched three point shots led to their demise. Charleston becomes the second URI OOC opponent to get the auto bid to the Big Dance.

Re: 2018 Conference Tournaments
Iona and Charleston going to the NCAA further strengthen URI's inclusion in the field and its seeding. It appears at this time that only two (out of eleven) URI non-conference opponents will not be in either the NCAA or NIT. There is still the possibility that seven OOC opponents may be in the NCAA (five are already in or locks).

So do we want to see Louisville, ND, and Syracuse lose today? Most likely a loss will knock them all out of the tourney.....
Although I doubt it....they are P5's.....
Bonnies might want to hope they do.
Another team that could fall out...Bobby's ASU......they had better win today.

The teams that have incentive to win do just that in these conference tourneys...FSU knows they are in....so they don't give a fuck.
Louisville's Q1 record is laughable...but they're Louisville, so they will get in.
I expect Syracuse to beat NC too.....not sure about ND, they almost gagged their game against Pitt yesterday.

That question alone - by itself - yes. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not a PC fan at all.rambone 78 wrote:Hey 208, would you take Syracuse in if it would mean knocking PC out?

But, I am a fan of any team that can benefit URI by winning.
If Syracuse winning knocked PC out and that had a negative impact on URI, I wouldn't root for Syracuse...
At this point, doesn't seem like anything PC does from here on in will be material to URI, will it?
I don't think that's a possibility here, but smarter people than me might answer that differently.

Conference tournaments rock, because it opens up the underdog/upset field like nothing else.
And, this is absolutely the best time of year to have a work-at-home job....

Re: 2018 Conference Tournaments
Interesting lesson in BC 's 91-87 win over NC State. BC led most of the way by double digits, but NC State got back in game within a two minute span by hitting three straight 3-pointers. And BC held on because they went to the FT line and put in their shots.
