So we will be getting new uni's. I think we'd be the only team in the A-10 with under armour. Our uni's really did look bad compared to most teams.

I also agree that there needs to be replay in the Ryan Center. It's annoying.

La Salle is an Under Armour school.

And I agree with True Point, I though our uniforms this year were very good. My only problem with them is I couldn't buy the Keaney blue version. Plus I would add the state flag on there somewhere, but that's because I think we really need to hammer home the state school thing, because our citizens don't seem to get it.

I agree. I thought the uniforms this year were the best I've seen in a while. And if LaSalle's current uniforms are an indicator of Under Armour's style, then count me out. Their uniforms are horrible, especially the shorts...yikes.

The best enhancements to me are those that enhance the in-game atmosphere -- bring students closer to the action and make the RC a real pit, and bring back the old Rhody Ram who embodied the brand perfectly.
Get a bigger band too. Could add the enhancements to the "Pub" to this list as well, all which make the environment more entertaining - in the end you are competing for discretionary entertainment dollars from the general public (non die hard) and these would all make for a better product.

Our unis were good, but overall Nike is where it's at..

In the long run they would outperform Adidas or Under Armour

As for the pub; I got that covered.. If only they listen

As for the press area, I got that covered too

As for URI's branding.. We need consistency across all sports

Come up w a URI font for starters.. So, when you change unis every other year, at least ppl will know the font

Look at UConn, look at Duke, look at Kansas.. And look at Miami..

The piping might change on the jersey, but the font remains the same

School needs to get an identity

No Better time than now if you change companies

I totally agree with needing a strong brand, but the problem is it seems like the men's basketball program is now separate from the rest of the athletic department. We know that the basketball contract with adidas runs out June 30th, but we don't know if that carries over to all sports. And just because one company gives us the best offer for basketball doesn't mean they'll do that for all sports. This arrangement is good for Dan and the basketball program, but it might not lend itself to having one strong brand throughout the athletic department.

I like the Rhode Island on the front.

Adding the flag is the most obvious thing or referencing the state logo on some level. There are anchors above nearly every door on campus in the buildings but there are zero anchors around the program, which is weird because its a legit RI thing. And ppl like them.

swpg, I would take the yellow stars on the unis, but an anchor would just be too much juju for me on a teams unis.

Ohhh I mean something like an anchor as you walk in. Arizona has the anchor of a battle ship an alum that was maybe an Admiral donated.

To think the dessert state has an anchor and the anchor state does not.

Home unis "Rams" in rising script on the front - "RI" on shorts - this could of course be a nice alternate jersey

road unis traditional " Rhode Island" with a Navy alternate worn more often

Bring back true keaney blue

I like the RI flag idea

I loved this year's uniforms. The best they had in a while. I always thought it would be cool to put "Rhody" on the front. Kind of like how Gonzaga has 'Zags'

I believe the womans unis have the "rhody" on theirs. Although I love the nickname, I'm more of fan of RAMS and RHODE ISLAND. How about a billboard of Ec Matthews on Rt 1 or rt 4 or even 95 saying "I'm Back". I'm in Providence a lot so I see the PC billboards. We need to advertise outside of kingston.

RI is the Ocean State.

State of Good Hope, with an anchor logo.

That should be our motto for next season, good hope that is.....

The performance of the basketball team this season cost the Athletic program serious money. Also, I understand that season tickets will increase $30 next year. Frankly, URI should feel tapped out in money for the basketball program. Perhaps, DH should offer some redistribution of his compensation for the benefit of the basketball program. You don't reward someone because their team had some bad luck injuries. His inability to recruit big men and coach offensive basketball have been a liability and unlikely to improve next year. The above has been the downside; there have been positives, but you are what your record says you are - a team that doesn't qualify for any post-season tournaments.

While I was not hoping for DH to leave, I would not have been crushed if he did. His compensation package would get us a good coach especially with the underclassmen on the roster.

Not sure where you'd out the anchors on the basketball uniforms.

On the side of the shorts?

If they wind up going with Nike this summer, I'm wondering if it would make sense to have the anchor design on the back of the jersey (similar to how UVA uses the back of this jersey)

Maybe with the state flag?

If I was to add an anchor to the uniform, It probably be on the shorts, in the same place UNC has their plaid. probably 5 down each leg to represent the 5 counties of the state.

I really like the five anchors down the sides of the shorts, with the anchor on the back of the jersey like UVA, with the state flag on the front. That said, that might end up looking too busy.

These were the nicest looking uniforms URI has worn in a long time. I hope they do not change them very much. If they do, they should go back to retro look...maybe 1982, with the piping along the sides.

I know the football team added the anchor to their unis this past season. Looked great too. Located on the shoulder pads I believe. Let's not forget our little brother to the North (Not PC) are called the Rhode Island College Anchormen. Just interesting. We need a new Ram logo. I love how VCU incorporated the ram horn into the "VCU" thats what we need.

More uniform talk:

For what it's worth, of the Sweet 16 teams:

Adidas: Kansas, Indiana, Miami, Wisconsin, Texas A&M
Nike: North Carolina, Villanova, Syracuse, Duke, Virginia, Gonzaga, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Oregon
Under Armour: Maryland, Notre Dame

i agree with UNC

it amazes me..
we have similar colors and yet our unis are so far apart

UNC, another team w/ a consistent font

this is why, even tho adidas unis were good this year..
long term..

NIKE is the way to go

i do not understand why the school doesn't hire a firm and rebrand themselves

and w/ this rebranding comes the old mascot (and get rid of the lion)

UCONN did this a few years back and changed all their fonts to a "university font"

its simple and something URI desperatley needs

put me in charge of this along w/ building a legit rhody pub, green monster type of seating under the big scoreboard w/ pub tables to tie into w/ the rhody pub.. and move the press area to courtside

speaking of ocean state. i'll right this ship :)

it's so easy yet URI lacks the vision

The anchor on the back could be badass.
We do need a universal font.
I'd like it more vertical the way UNC's is or Virginia's.
The slanted font we have isn't as powerful looking.

IF you read that Steph Curry article about his shoe deal it has a blurb about Old Dominion. Says UA paid Old Dominion 6 times what Nike paid the school because of an alum selling Curry on UA. Teams leaving Nike for UA and Adidas have been doing that because there is more money in the other brands for those schools. And support in terms of the amount of gear.

I wonder if the renegotiated deal doesn't value Dan Hurley and the new program much more. There can be so many factors in choosing the brand. It can be Hurley ties or administration ties to a brand. It can be the highest bidder they choose. Are there incentives? Make the tourney and get $$? That seems fair. What AAU teams are tied to the brand. NIKE has its top tier and then the rest. There is more potential for a school to gain favor at UA or Adidas.

IDK I just don't think NIKE is the likely winner. Having seen schools jump ship from NIKE to other brands, the schools usually don't get much support from NIKE in terms of gear. The brand has tiers of support and its easy to fall out of favor. Unless there are connections between ppl at URI and a certain brand.

I actually like the adidas stuff a lot. I follow ND football almost as closely as I do URI basketball, and when they switched to UA from adidas, most people were excited. But I don't know how impressed I am. I think I preferred the adidas stuff. Now, I recognize that this decision is about more than just the uniforms and I don't have a ton of insight into how a change would impact recruiting and AAU relationships and whatnot, but I wouldn't be mad if we stayed with adidas.

The problem is that their best package still includes cookie cutter aspects to it

Not sure on our jerseys, but our shorts piping clearly I have scene on other schools

Why can't we be more unique and have our own identity ?

It's up to the school to seize the day here and create an identity.

Spend the $ and hire a firm.

Incorporate the ideas from this board.

You have a unique and consistent font.

You then reap the rewards because you will sell much more regular merchandise in terms of regular apparel.

We will be low man on the totem pole with a NIKE deal, while we can all agree they are the clear #1 brand in the category we are not a blue blood and will get also ran treatment from them.
Our brand is a scrappy, challenger brand....and we should align with a like minded partner in this category, Adidas and UA fit that bill. Though I agree with TP in that at times UA goes heavy on graphics in a bad way. I tend to prefer simple and sharp for Uni design, with 1 maybe 2 unique touches to make it custom for our team/state. I also love the 3rd jersey as a staple part of the collection.

The anchor and Arizona has to do with the battleship

They have a salvaged masthead and anchor site in Phoenix.

How much does a sneaker company determine where a recruit goes? In other words, which one is Expressions affiliated with and which one is BABC affiliated with? Does this factor at all?

Even though we wouldn't get the treatment of a blue blood program with nike I think nike still makes some of the cleanest looking jerseys and they don't try to do anything too over the top (except for Oregon football). Also nike does have Jordan, Kobe, Lebron and Kd's signature shoes which seem to be popular among players.

Under Armor isn't awful but most their designs aren't anything special. Adidas makes very tacky looking uniforms and has the whole short sleeve gimmick which hopefully is going away.

Ultimately if one company is offering significant more money than the others then that's the one that should be chosen. If money offered is even then nike should be the obvious choice.

Anyone else notice (and dislike) how almost every single team (because of Nike) in the tournament had the same white shooting shirts with 'Always Reppin" on the front. Did those teams get no choice in what they get for shirts?
